Munich Residenz, the Former Royal Palace of the Bavarian Monarchs
The Munich Residenz is the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs of the House of Wittelsbach in the centre of the city of Munich, Germany. The Residenz is the largest city palace in Germany and is today open to visitors for its architecture, room decorations, and displays from the former royal collections.
The complex of buildings contains ten courtyards and displays 130 rooms. The three main parts are the Königsbau, the Alte Residenz and the Festsaalbau. A wing of the Festsaalbau contains the Cuvilliés Theatre since the reconstruction of the Residenz after World War II. It also houses the Hercules Hall, the primary concert venue for the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. The Byzantine Court Church of All Saints at the east side is facing the Marstall, the building for the former Court Riding School and the royal stables.
The first buildings at this site were erected in the year 1385. The Silver Tower, as the strongest bastion, was significantly situated next to the inner walls protecting the castle against the city. This sturdy new castle, surrounded by wide moats at what used to be the very north eastern corner of the new double ring of walls, replaced the difficult to defend Old Court in the middle of the town as residence of the Wittelsbach rulers.
The gothic foundation walls and the basement vaults of the old castle are the oldest surviving parts of the palace. The Residenz's development over the centuries didn't only take place out of its main centre, but in addition grew out of several single parts and extensions. Finally, after more than four centuries of development, the giant palace had practically replaced a whole former city quarter with barracks, a monastery, houses and gardens.

The Brandhorst Museum was opened in Munich on 21 May 2009. It displays about 200 exhibits from collection of modern art of the heirs of the Henkel trust Udo Fritz-Hermann and Anette Brandhorst. In 2009 the Brandhorst Collection comprises more than 700 works.
Anette Brandhorst, the great-granddaughter of Henkel’s founder, and her husband Udo Fritz-Hermann began collecting art in 1971. When Anette died of cancer in 1999, her husband Udo donated the collection to the state of Bavaria on the proviso that the state build it a fitting home. The construction costs of $67 million were funded by Bavaria.
The building with its long, two-storey, rectangular structure and multi-coloured facade composed of 36,000 vertical ceramic louvres in 23 different coloured glazes, was created by Sauerbruch Hutton architects and is located next to the Pinakothek der Moderne in the Kunstareal. The building has three exhibition areas which are connected by stairs. All galleries (with the exception of the Media Suite) have white walls and wooden floorboards of Danish oak.
The museum displays a comprehensive selection of about 100 works of Andy Warhol (Hammer and sickle, 1976, The Last Supper, 1986) and more than 60 works of Cy Twombly, making it the largest Twombly collection outside the US. The monumental series by Twombly, titled Lepanto, refers to a naval battle in 1571 between the Ottoman and Holy League forces. One of the museum's rooms, an irregular octagon, was created specifically to house the Lepanto cycle, a painting in 12 parts.

Halfway through the train station, after entering from the south entrance, roam to the north entrance. There are many food stalls in the station that provide convenient transportation for passengers on the train.

Munich is a spectacular town to visit, with a great history that goes back nine hundred years. Museum Brandhorst Opening
| With the opening of the Museum Brandhorst in Munich's Kunstareal, the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen gain an institution with an impressive collection of works of modern and contemporary art. The Museum Brandhorst is the new home of the Udo and Anette Brandhorst Collection.
Two focal points of emphasis give the Brandhorst Collection its character. With more than sixty paintings, drawings, and sculptures by the American artist Cy Twombly (born 1928), it offers the greatest overview of Twombly's development outside the USA. The whole upper floor is dedicated to Cy Twombly and shows, among other works the Lepanto and Roses-cycles. The second focal point is Andy Warhol, who is represented with over 100 pieces, among them two huge Last Supper and Oxidation paintings. The collection features other positions with artists such as Sigmar Polke, Georg Baselitz, Gerhard Richter, Eric Fischl, Mario Merz, Franz West, Katharina Fritsch, Christopher Wool, Robert Gober, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and others. A recent acquisition has been the multimedia work Western Union: Small Boats by Isaac Julien.
The new museum is located in Munich's art district with the Alte Pinakothek, the Neue Pinakothek, the Pinakothek der Moderne, the Glyptotek, and the Antiquities Collection. It has been designed by the Berlin architects Sauerbruch Hutton and is clad in 36'000 glazed ceramic rods in 23 different colors. The Museum Brandhorst features innovative lighting technology and an ecologically conceived climate-control system.

Walking in MUNICH / Germany ????????- Hofbräuhaus to Königsplatz - 4K 60fps (UHD) tour
After our longer tour through Munich ( on this short walk we start at the Hofbräuhaus, the legendary beer hall in the centre of the city.
We walk to the old town hall, pass the new impressive town hall and make our way around the busy shopping streets there. It's time for some side streets where we end up an Sendlinger Tor. From there at the edge of the inner city we walk back up to the Karlsplatz with a popular fountain on this hot summer day.
The sun is setting yet it is still some minutes to the Königsplatz, Munich's gallery and museum quarter, where we end this short evening walk.

With 1,548,319 inhabitants intramural as of 30 June 20173 and 2,351,706 inhabitants in its urban area4, it is the third largest city in Germany by population after Berlin and Hamburg. The Munich Metropolitan Region, which also includes Augsburg and Ingolstadt, has more than five million inhabitants. Crossed by the Isar tributary of the Danube, it is located in the district of Upper Bavaria, at the foot of the Bavarian Alps.
The name of the city comes from the old High German Munichen (by the monks), because of the presence of a Benedictine monastery at the current location of the old town; Heraldry is also a monk. First mentioned in 1158, Munich became the home town of the Dukes of Bavaria in 1255 and the Roman Emperor Louis IV. In 1506, after two centuries of division, the principalities unified to form Bavaria. A catholic city - as Notre-Dame cathedral testifies, the main religious building of the city - it is one of the centers of the Counter-Reformation. Becoming the capital of the electorate of Bavaria (1623) and the Kingdom of Bavaria (1805), it became one of the main cultural, artistic and scientific German in the nineteenth century, under the leadership of King Louis II.
During the twentieth century, Munich experienced a significant industrial development, becoming the first economic center of the Federal Republic of Germany (1949-1990) then of reunified Germany. It is home to major companies such as Siemens, Allianz, BMW, Munich Rückversicherung, Linde, Airbus Deutschland and HypoVereinsbank. According to Eurostat, the Greater Metropolitan Area of Greater Munich is the largest in Germany in terms of GDP with 117.6 billion euros, ahead of Hamburg, Berlin and Frankfurt. With a per capita GDP of 53,073 euros, Munich is also one of the richest cities in the European Union4.
Germany's second most popular tourist destination after Berlin, Munich is famous for its traditional Oktoberfest, which takes place every year from the end of September to the beginning of October. OMGERMANY! Here's my newest travel video covering Munich, the capital city of Bavaria, and a few day trips one can do to see more of the rural areas of the district. I found Germany a mix of the new and the old: we have visited the BMW World and Museum and Marienplatz and the Viktualienmarkt which is part of the old town, where one can have the famous, bratwurst and experience drinking in the Biergarten. Miesbach alone is a gorgeous, quaint district in Bavaria, which boasts a wonderful day trip hike from Schliersee to Tegernsee, where one can see the lakes and taste the must-try Bavarian foods and beverages in the Bräustüberl Tegernsee ❤️ Again, no guidebooks beat the locals' advices and tips; the Germans are generally friendly so ask, ask, ask!

The BMW Headquarters (German: BMW-Vierzylinder; English: BMW four-cylinder; also known as the BMW HQ or BMW Tower; German: BMW Hochhaus) is a Munich, Germany landmark serving as world headquarters for the Bavarian automaker BMW since 1973. It was declared a protected historic building in 1999. Extensive renovations commenced in 2004 and were completed in 2006. The trio of BMW Welt, the BMW Museum and BMW Group Plant has developed into one of the most popular days out in Bavaria. BMW Welt is located in front of the BMW Group Headquarters, and it unites the past and present in a single venue.
The Tower was built between 1968 and 1972 and was ready in time for 1972 Summer Olympics. Its inauguration followed on 18 May 1973. The 101-metre (331 ft) building is located near the Olympic Village and is often cited as one of the most notable examples of architecture in Munich. The tower's exterior is supposed to mimic the shape of four cylinders in a car engine, with the museum representing a cylinder head. Both buildings were designed by the Austrian architect Karl Schwanzer.
The main tower consists of four vertical cylinders standing next to and across from each other. Each cylinder is divided horizontally in its center by a mold in the facade. Notably, these cylinders do not stand on the ground; they are suspended on a central support tower. During the construction, individual floors were assembled on the ground and then elevated. The tower has a diameter of 52.30 metres (171.6 ft) and it has 22 occupied floors, two of which are basements and 18 serve as office space.
During the 1972 Summer Olympics BMW branding was removed from the buildings to prevent product placement. BMW badging was also removed from the 2002 sedans, which accompanied Olympic marathon runners during the competition. The branding was removed again for the building's cameo appearance in the 1975 film Rollerball, replaced by large orange circles, meant to stand for the fictional ruling Energy Corporation of the future.
