Whether it's the story of Anastasia, many have heard about the tragic history of the Russian Royal Family, but few know how or where it actually happened. Yekaterinburg is a city in the middle of Russia and rarely visited by the average tourist. Strangely enough it actually has a lot to offer and I hope that after watching this video you will be more inclined to see it for yourself!

Brit's tea room brings bit of Blighty to Russia's Far East
Russians have long been fascinated by the English tradition of afternoon tea.
And now in Vladivostok, locals can taste the real thing!
That's thanks to one expat who brought a bit of Blighty with him to the Eastern port.
He and Prime Time's Lindsay France shared a cuppa...

,MY CITY NOVOSIBIRSK Novosibirsk- the capital of Siberia Novosibirsk is one of the biggest cities in Russia and the third largest city after Moscow and St. Petersburg ,and it is the biggest city behind the Ural. It’s situated right in the middle of Russia. The city is on bank of the Ob river. Day, when the bridge across the Ob river was started, it is considered as day when Novosibirsk was found. The famous places of Novosibirsk are “Novosibirsk Zoo”, ”Novosibirsk Art Gallery”, the theater “Red torch”, the theater “Old House”, “The Youth Theatre Globe” and “State Academy Opera and Ballet Theater”. ,MY CITY NOVOSIBIRSK At the end of 19th century the builders of the Trans-Siberian Railway were gradually pushing through the boundless steppes and trackless forests of Siberia towards the East. At the banks of the mighty Siberian River Ob, they came to a halt, for it had to be bridged. Nikolai Garin-Mikhailovsky, the leader of the surveying group, himself both a great engineer and a novelist, was the man who selected the site for the huge railway bridge to be built. He was the founder of Novosibirsk and today one of the finest squares in the city bears his name. Novosibirsk is a young city and perhaps the most outstanding aspect of its short life is its rate of growth. It took 750 years for the population of Moscow to reach the million mark, Kiev 700 years and New York about two hundred, but Novosibirsk has been in existence only sixty years. Now population of Novosibirsk is 1,5 millions people. Novosibirsk is the third city in Russia. In Novosibirsk are many famous sights: Railway Station, the Siberian Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the Institute of Rail Transport Engineers, the Administration of Siberian Railway, the little Railway in Zaeltsovsky park, Zoo, the square of Heroes of revolution and Chapel. Railway Station is situated on the square of Nikolai Garin-Mikhailovsky. The first performance of the Siberian Theatre of Opera and Ballet was given on Victory Day in 1945 to celebrate the surrender of Nazi Germany. Novosibirsk Zoo is one of the biggest and famous zoos in the world. The general street of Novosibirsk is Red Aveue. There is the city’s Chapel. This place is the center of Russia. RomanSpitsin

Moscow Exhibits Historical Records of Massacre Against Chinese During Great Purge

Not long ago, an exhibition revealing the truth of Stalin's
Great Purge in 1930's Moscow.
The exhibition shows acts of horror and savagery under
Communist Party dictatorship of the Soviet Union (CPSU).
Many Chinese living in the Soviet Union during that period
were also subject to political persecution.
Let's look at the report below.
Oct. 30 marks the Day of Remembrance for Victims
of Political Repression in Russia.
An exhibition of 1937-1938: The Great Terror
was held in Moscow on that day.
The exhibition introduces truth about Stalin's Great Purge
with videos, photos and memories from victims' descendants.
All video and photo archives of the exhibition were provided
by Polish photographer Tomasz.
Tomasz remade the photos according to historical records
kept in Russia's State Archive or by Memorial Human Rights.
Tomasz recorded the collapse of the Communist Party
of Poland with his camera.
In the mid 1990's, he also published a photo album
about the Gulag.
Since 2008, Tomasz visited Russia, Belarus and Ukraine many
times to finish his new book 1937-1938: The Great Terror.
The fact is people still don't know exactly how many
were killed by Stalin between 1936 and 1939.
However, fragmentary facts officially announced
are already astonishing.
The CCP's magazine Wenshicankao (Cultural and Historical
Records for Reference) revealed that Stalin had arrested
1.2 million CPSU members, or half of his party members,
during the Great Purge.
89 of 139 Central Committee members were executed.
Among 1,966 delegates of the CPSU's 17th National Congress,
1,108 “disappeared” during the movement.
The situation was even worse in the army.
Three of five marshals were sentenced to death.
Thirteen of 15 senior generals,
154 of 186 divisional commanders were also executed.
According to records of East Germany's secret police,
Stalin had signed 681,692 execution orders within
only one year and a half between 1937 and 1938.
By the end of 1987, CPSU set up a committee
for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Political Repression,
headed by Alexander Yakovlev.
In 2000, Yakovlev said in an interview that 20 million or
more people were victims of Stalin's political suppression.
That is to say, Stalin had killed over one tenth
of the total population in Soviet Union.
In addition, Stalin's Great Purge involved Chinese workers
living in the Far East.
There are articles revealing that at least 300,000
were exiled and left around the Arctic Circle.
In cities such as Vladivostok, no Chinese were allowed
to stay and live.
Tomasz said that in 2010, he found a collective burial
of executed Chinese during the Great Purge beside
a village road 14 kilometers away from Vladivostok.
He remembered he saw opium and smoking guns
in the burial.
NTD Micro Footage anchor Zhao Bei said Tsarist Russia
extended its border with China to more southern areas
including Vladivostok than that regulated
by the Treaty of Nerchinsk.
Despite that, Chinese were still allowed to stay until the CPSU
took power and began to recklessly kill Chinese living there.
Zhao Pei: Tsarist Russia grabbed the land and exploited
Chinese living in the Far East, but it did not kill all Chinese.
After the CPSU took power, it committed genocide
against Chinese in that region.
Zhao Pei said all Communist Party regimes committed
massacres both against their own people and foreigners.
They did that simply to protect their power.
They would kill anyone that they considered a threat,
even if it was only tiny threat to their regimes.
Under the Khmer Rouge rule in Cambodia, it is estimated
that over 3 million Cambodians had died.
The figure almost reached half of the state's total population
at that time.
Academy of China,
said Nazism, Fascism and Communism are widely regarded
as the major three evil theories of the 20th century.
Among the three, Communism lasts the longest
and is thus the most destructive.
Tang Boqiao: The Chinese Communist Party had led to over
80 million unnatural deaths within 50 years in China.
In the Soviet Union, nearly 20 million were persecuted
to death during Stalin's era.
Those are among the most astonishing tragedy eras
in human history.
The CCP's persecution over China and the whole world
is still not over.
Tang Boqiao said that since the release
of the Nine Commentaries on Communist Party,
an increasing number of Chinese have learned about
the CCP’s truth and quit the party.
Rights defending incidents become more active
in mainland China and similar things happen
to democratic movements in Hong Kong.
Tang said these are signals that China is in the process
of kicking Communism to the curb and the atrocity
of one-party dictatorship will be brought to an end.

Ekaterinburg - Екатеринбург | Плотинка Russia Россия | www.Ekaterinburg.TK
What is Interesting in the city?
There are a lot of places of interest in Ekaterinburg - it has a unique mixture of different architectural, historical, and cultural rarities, which may never be repeated. More than 60 monuments of history and culture are located in the city, and 43 of them are considered to be national monuments because of their special significance. That is why Ekaterinburg can claim the formal status as Russia's most historical city.
At present, Ekaterinburg is one of Russia's biggest industrial centres. It's enterprises produce industrial goods for heavy machinery and chemical plant construction, for transportation, and military purposes.
Ekaterinburg is not very old, but over the course of its 280-year history, it has proven itself to be a special and even unique city - not only by it's geographical location, but also by a role as one of the founders of Russian industry. The heart of Ekaterinburg is its dam, which permitted the initial development of the city's industrial base. It was first erected in 1723 and has been reconstructed twice since - now it is recognized as an industrial monument of the 18th century.
Unfortunately, very few buildings of the old factory area have been preserved. Those that do, house the Museum of History, Architecture, and Technology of the Urals, and the Natural Museum - both of which are located in the so-called Historical Park. The oldest building of Ekaterinburg, which dates from 1764 and recently reconstructed, is also situated here. At present this is the Fine Arts Museum. Ekaterinburg of the 18th century was a wooden city, however, the city's first buildings of stone construction also appeared here during this period. At most these were administrative buildings - for example, the Main Board of the mining factories, where the Urals Conservatory is located now.
In the late 18th and the early 19th centuries a new architectural style - classicism, influenced Ekaterinburg landscapes. The palace on Voznesenskaya Hill, with its luxurious park, is the most famous example of this style. Many churches and chapels made the city's panorama very beautiful and picturesque. In the beginning of the 20th century there were about 50 churches, of which only 6 still stand today.
There are quite a few buildings in the constructivist style within the city - typical of this are such examples as the Main Post Office, the Uralskij Rabochij (Ural Worker) printing house, the movie studio, the famous White Tower, the Dinamo recreational centre, etc.
The Soviet period brought new trends to Ekaterinburg's architecture - luxury and rationalism, which reflected the influence both of ideology and asceticism. New tendencies in the development of world architecture have also affected the city. Some of the most well known structures of this time include the Military Headquarters, the Ural Great Polytechnic University, the Railroad Administrative Building, and the Philharmonic Theatre.
The city's history is full of events -many expeditions to Siberia, Central Asia and the Far East passed through Ekaterinburg.
The city was visited by many Russian tsars and members of their families.
The first Russian president, Boris Yeltsin lived and worked here during the 1960s and 1970s.
Among the many monuments in Ekaterinburg are the monuments to Bolshevik Malyshev and The Black Tulip - Russian soldiers during the Afghan campaign named the aeroplanes which delivered the coffins of their dead comrades back to Russia The Black Tulips.
There are so many remarkable places in the 280-year-old Ekaterinburg, that all cannot possibly be described in this small web site. This brief information is intended to provoke the interest of Ekaterinburg's inhabitants and guests of the Urals to the history of our remarkable city.

RUSSIA: MOSCOW: PROSTITUTION IS BOOMING
Russian/Nat
In Russia's new free market prostitution is booming.
Moscow's streets are packed with scantily-clad hookers who have flocked to the capital in search of a decent wage.
Prostitution is not a criminal offence but Moscow's hard-pressed police force have been charged with cleaning up the capital's streets.
But with the drastic increase in violent crime many policemen feel their efforts would be better spent elsewhere.
The free market has brought many improvements to Moscow's streets.
Bars, restaurants and night clubs now flourish in a city that was once drab and uninviting.
But together with the nightlife has come something else rarely seen during Soviet times - street prostitution.
Every evening, as Muscovites start to make their way home, hundreds of hookers appear on the streets to begin their working day.
The deal is struck by their pimps, former prostitutes themselves, who then summon the girls so the customers can make their choice.
A steady stream of cars cruises the streets across from Russia's parliament, one of the favourite pick-up spots for Moscow's call girls.
But as darkness falls the Moscow City police force embarks on its nightly attempt to make a dent in a business that now dominates downtown Moscow.
Prostitution in Russia is not a criminal offence but the government considers it an embarrassment and an eyesore.
Police make routine busts but without a law to charge the girls, have to release
them within a few hours.
The majority of the girls are from the provinces and other former republics, where unemployment is high and wages low.
They are charged with not having the proper documents to be in Moscow -- an
old Soviet law designed to limit movement into the capital.
Every evening police station 108 sees a constant stream of prostitutes.
The girls are processed and held for up to six hours before being put back on the streets. A bribe from their pimp can see them released immediately.
The head of Moscow's organised crime department says that since there is no law against prostitution, his men are powerless to get the girls off the streets permanently
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
Even though it is quite clear that they are prostitutes the girls are detained for passport irregularities, or no Moscow registration document, that is for things which have no
connection at all with prostitution
SUPER CAPTION: Vladimir Zolutnitsky, Chief of Moscow Organized Crime Department
In a good month a girl can earn up to three thousand dollars, a small fortune in Russia's bleak provincial towns and villages.
But with no red light district and no brothels, the job has more than its share of risks.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
You get into a car and you don't know what will happen when you get there -- who will be there or what they will do. There may be fifteen men waiting. Some girls have gone
missing for two months and then reappeared.
SUPER CAPTION Dasha, prostitute in Moscow
Women in Russia have been hit harder than most by the transition to a market economy. Particularly those from rural Russia where the economy is at a standstill.
The result has been a massive increase in the numbers of unemployed women who flock to the capital in search of any work they can find. Many of them turn to prostitution as a last resort.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
If there was work, If Yeltsin gave us the opportunity to work normally and for proper money then none of these girls would be walking the street.
SUPER CAPTION, Sveta, prostitute in Moscow
And that would suit the police, too.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
prostitution.
