Porsche Parade to Atlanta High Museum - Type 64 Visits U.S.
This past Sunday March 21st, Porsche Cars of North America and the Porsche Club of America organized a parade of over 100 Porsches to drive from the Georgia Governor's Mansion to the Atlanta High Museum of Art. Starting this week the museum is holding the Allure of the Automobile Exhibition. Included is Porsche's historic Type 64 coupe which for the first time has left its home at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart and travelled to Atlanta Georgia for a three month loan to the High Museum. The Type 64 was designed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1938 and was to be used for the Berlin to Rome endurance race. But because of World War II, that never happened. The design of the car served as influenced for future models including the Type 356 and 911. In this video the CEO of Porsche Cars North America, Detlev von Platen, discusses the importance of the Type 64 for the Porsche brand and its significance for travelling to Atlanta.
Note: This video also includes footage of the first 2010 GT3 RS to arrive in the United States.
stupidDOPE Visits: Dream Cars Exhibition @ Atlanta's High Museum of Art | Video
( The ingenuity of car creation is beyond us. What exactly does it take to conceive of a functional car that is unlike any other the world has seen before? We don't know but, every time a car rolls off the assembly line that has a different flow that most other cars, we drool. That is why we took our act to The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia to lay eyes on the Dream Cars exhibit now showing at the museum.
If you're a car and design lover, you simply have to come out and see what the High Museum of Art offers as a whole and specifically in the Dream Cars Exhibit. Featuring one-of-a-kind cars from the 1930s straight on through to the 2010s the exhibition will take your breath away. High Museum's curator of Decorative Arts & Design, Sarah Schleuning took time between tours to give us a little more insight on the exhibition and some awesome tidbits about some of the cars.
Our favorite cars in the the 17 car Dream Cars exhibit were the French, egg-shaped electric 1942 L'Oeuf Electrique, the wedged 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero, and the elegantly styled 1947 Norman Timbs Special. Whatever your pleasure is in the world of cars, this exhibition presents rides that won't leave your memory. Dream Cars is on at the High Museum of Art Atlanta from now until September 7, 2014. Visit high.org for tickets, directions and hours. For now, take a look at our video visit for more.

Atlanta: Center for Civil and Human Rights
The Center for Civil and Human Rights is a museum dedicated to the achievements of both the civil rights movement in the United States and the broader worldwide human rights movement. Located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, the museum opened to the public on June 23, 2014.
The Center was initially conceived by Evelyn Lowery, the wife of Joseph Lowery, and Juanita Abernathy, the widow of Ralph David Abernathy, along with former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young and longtime House Representative John Lewis, all of whom were part of the movement to grant civil rights to African-Americans during the 1960s.
The Center hosts a number of exhibitions, both permanent and temporary, that not only tell the history of the civil rights movement in the United States, but how that period is related to more contemporary human rights struggles around the world.
Voice to the Voiceless: The Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection contains personal effects that belonged to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The exhibit tells Dr. King's story from his youth through to his assassination and its aftermath and includes such papers as drafts of Letter from Birmingham Jail and Drum Major Instinct, a sermon King delivered not long before his death.
Rolls Down Like Water: The American Civil Rights Movement is an interactive gallery that opens with examples of segregation in the United States as embodied in Jim Crow laws and signs designating facilities as whites only.
Spark of Conviction: The Global Human Rights Movement, unlike the other exhibits, is non-linear in design. The exhibit includes a rogues gallery of dictators, like Adolf Hitler and Augusto Pinochet, and counters them with images of modern-day activists who work to improve conditions of women and LGBT individuals around the world.
