ROTERMANN City | Special Quarter in Tallinn | Estonia
The Rotermann Quarter, located in the heart of Tallinn between the Old Town, the port, and Viru Square, sits in a historically important area – the crossing point of the Tartu, Narva and Pärnu highways was at Viru Square in the 19th century, which is also the official centre of Tallinn. The Rotermann Quarter has almost as many historically valuable buildings as the Old Town of Tallinn.
The industrial area started to thrivingly develop in the 19th century and it was the location for a department store, a factory that produced starch, spirit, tables, and pasta, a mill that produced bread, flour, and groat, buildings of a steam saw, and a salt warehouse, which is one of the most unique preserved limestone structures in Estonia. Currently, the building houses the Museum of Estonian Architecture, which was built on the basis of a design by a Baltic German Ernst Boustedt in 1908.
There are several restaurants, shops, and the multiplex Coca Cola Plaza in Rotermann Quarter. The Rotermann Quarter gives visitors an extraordinary opportunity to spend quality time in quieter and smaller urban areas, discovering shops, restaurants, and wine bars fit for both everyday life and occasions that are more refined. The quaint city quarter is sits within walking distance from the A and B terminals of the port (1 km and 900 m), as well as from the Viru Hotel (200 m).

[RUS] Расположенный в центре старого Таллинна, между портом и площадью Виру, квартал Ротерманни находится в исторически важном районе – уже в 19 столетии на площади Виру пересекались Тартуское, Нарвское и Пярнуское шоссе. Это место является официальной центральной частью Таллинна. В квартале Ротерманни исторических зданий так же много, как и в старом Таллинне.
В получившем в XIX веке мощный толчок к развитию промышленном районе нашли свое место универмаг, фабрики по производству крахмала, спирта, лесопильня и макаронная фабрика, хлебозавод, мукомольня, мельница для круп и здания парового лесопильного завода, а также соляной склад, который является одним из самых своеобразных в Эстонии сохранившихся до наших дней строений из плитняка. Сегодня в построенном в 1908 году по проекту балтийского немца инженера Эрнста Боустедта, находящемся под охраной памятников старины соляном складе расположился Эстонский Архитектурный музей. В квартале Ротерманни есть множество заведений общественного питания, магазинов и кино Coca Cola Plaza.
Rotermann City предлагает уникальную возможность хорошо провести время в тихой и небольшой части города, открывая магазины, места общественного питания, винные комнаты, как для повседневной жизни, так и для изысканных вкусов. Эта своеобразная часть города находится на расстоянии приблизительно 1 км от А-терминала, 900 м от В-терминала и 200 м пешей прогулки от отеля / центра Viru.

[RUS] Эстонский Национальный Mузей (ERM) — это национальный музей, который осмысляет понятие эстонской сущности, является носителем основных ценностей народа и хранителем преемственности. Посетителям откроется как предметный, так и виртуальный мир, зовущий к открытиям, осознанию и манящий принять во всём самостоятельное участие.
В музее есть две постоянных выставки. «Встречи» — это выставка об обычных эстонских людях, которые жили на этой земле во все времена. Выставка «Отголосок Урала» знакомит с традиционной культурой быта финно-угров и самоедов.
Кроме выставочной части, в здании есть кинозал и конференц-зал, театр black box, кафе, ресторан и музейный магазин.

Kadriorg Palace is a 15 to 20 minute walk from old town, Tallinn Estonia, and it is well worth the trip. Built for the wife of Peter the Great, this small, yet stunning palace now serves as an art museum.
KUMU Art Museum of Estonia | Permanent Exhibition | Tallinn
KUMU Art Museum, which was opened in 2006, is the grand headquarters of the Art Museum of Estonia and has a number of purposes. Estonian Victims of COMMUNISM Memorial 1940-1991 | Tallinn | Estonia
The memorial to victims of communism is dedicated to all Estonian people who suffered from the Soviet Union regime. The communist regime was established in Estonia on 17 June 1940 and ended with the restoration of Estonia’s independence on 20 August 1991.
As a consequence of this, Estonia lost one of every five persons from its population of slightly over one million, of whom more than 75,000 were murdered, imprisoned or deported. The Memorial has two parts – the Journey with the name plaques of the victims, and the symbolic Home Garden with informative texts and location stones marking sites of terror.
Memorial was opened in August 2018.

Мемориал жертвам коммунизма посвящен всем жителям Эстонии, пострадавшим от режима Советской власти. Коммунистический режим был установлен в Эстонии 17 июня 1940 года и пал в связи с восстановлением независимости республики 20 августа 1991 года. Эстония потеряла каждого пятого жителя страны при населении чуть более одного миллиона человек. Из них около 75 тысяч было убито, арестовано или депортировано. Мемориал состоит из двух частей – Пути, символизирующего беспощадность тоталитарной системы, и символического Сада, где находятся камни с обозначением мест террора и информационные тексты. Мемориал был открыт в Августе 2018.
Kommunismiohvrite memoriaal on pühendatud kõigile Nõukogude Liidu terrori all kannatanud Eesti inimestele. Kommunistlik terrorirežiim kehtestati Eesti okupeerimisega 17. juunil 1940 ja see lõppes Eesti iseseisvuse taastamisega 20. augustil 1991. Selle tagajärjel kaotas Eesti iga viienda oma veidi üle miljonist elanikust, kellest rohkem kui 75 000 mõrvati, vangistati või küüditati.
Memoriaalil on kaks osa – Teekond ohvrite nimetahvlitega ja sümboolne Koduaed koos terroripaiku tähistavate kohakivide ning teabetekstidega.

The Kenneth Hudson Award 2018 goes to ESTONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM, Tartu, Estonia
The Kenneth Hudson Award is given in recognition of the most unusual and daring achievement that challenges common perceptions of the role of museums in society.
It was awarded to the ESTONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM, Tartu, Estonia.
This museum provides a thoughtful exploration of what belonging to a place means, so that it collects, preserves and interprets memories of the past in ways which make the museum an inclusive, creative learning environment for all. This museum considers and deals with complex and controversial histories and views its main responsibility as collecting and preserving memory to create a new vision of cultural dialogue which links past with future.
By taking a dialogic multi-vocal, participatory approach to the history of everyday life, the museum reinvents the traditional concept of a national museum.
TALLINN - Kumu Art Museum 1
Kumu is an abbreviation of the Estonian Kunstimuuseum (art museum). The designer was a Finnish architect, Pekka Vapaavuori, who won the competition in 1994.
It was constructed from 2003 to 2006.Kumu received European Museum of the Year Award 2008 by European Museum Forum.
