Sakhalin Island, Russia on $200. Seafood, Skiing and Sushi @Russia: Tips, Tricks & Travel
In this episode of Russia: Tips, Tricks & Travel Tim goes to the little known yet massive Russian island that used to be (partially) part of the Japanese Empire.
Tim Kirby starts his journey downtown next to one of the most regular “guests” on our program Vladimir Lenin. From there he went to the amazing Japanese-styled Sakhalin Regional Museum. History sure makes a guy hungry, so on his way to the region’s first and oldest Japanese restaurant Tim stops by the Anton Pavlovich Chekhov memorial to pay his respects to a major player in the island’s history. At the restaurant Tim speaks with its founder and philanthropist Yutaka Miyanisi who shows our host the proper way to do sushi. One hint, it does not include mayo, not even spicy mayo!
From there Tim decides that he should share the island’s amazing seafood with his family and stocks up at the Central Market (“Успех”/”Uspekh”) with all sorts of fish, crab and caviar.
From there Tim drops his stuff at the Japanese built and inspired Santa Resort Hotel to see how hotel rooms made for the Land of the Rising Sun fare in Russia. After teaching the robot Japanese toilet who is boss Tim heads out to the ski slopes of the Gorny Vosdukh Ski Resort. Thankfully our hero survives the trip down the snowy routes and heads out to the Harat’s Pub downtown to meet up with a fan after it gets dark.
Next Tim has to track down said fan and does so using the old railway still built to Japanese Imperial standards. He then gets exclusive access to the port in Korsakov. From there Tim sneaks into the boat graveyard, you’ll see whether the guard dogs bit him or not jumping over the fence.

I found the museum of the author of 'Sakhalin Island' Anton Chekhov. At the end of the nineteenth century, Anton Chekhov, a representative of realism in Russia, spent three months on the Sakhalin Island, an exorbitant prisoner of the time, and recorded his journey. In fact, he went to prison himself as a priest and experienced the life of prisoners. Not only did the prisoners not even eat it, but they carefully recorded the unfamiliar life of the people who entered the coal mine, took the bullet and made the railroad track, as well as the history of the Aboriginal Ainu, Gilak and the Koreans and Japanese at that time, He described what Sakhalin was like, leaving an objective record like the report.

Sakhalin Island was used by imperial Russia as a penal colony and place of exile for criminals and political prisoners. Between 1869 and 1906, more than 30,000 inmates and exiles endured the difficult conditions of the forced-labor colony on the island.
This collection of photographs is preserved in the Alexandrov Municipal History & Literature Museum. The photographs were taken on the island during the late 19th and early 20th centuries and provide rare glimpses of its settlements, prisons, and inhabitants. Most of the photographs in the collection were taken by Sakhalin artist Ivan Nikolaevich Krasnov, although some are unattributed.
The collection depicts public life and institutions in the town of Aleksandrovsk Post, convicts working under harsh conditions or in chains, and political prisoners. The photographs also show the daily life both of the Nivkh people, indigenous to the northern part of the island, and the Russian settler population.
Anton Chekhov, the renowned doctor and writer, took a trip to Sakhalin in 1890 during which Chekhov researched the plight of island’s prisoners and native populations. The publication of his Sakhalin Island in 1895 highlighted the depravity of the situation in this remote corner of Russia and led to public protests that helped bring about the closure of the penal colony.

Dark green of the Villa building was one of the great invisible security measures in the woods. The villa was built in 1936 as a national project for health leaders. Stalin stayed the main house, two outbuildings as office and guest room was opened in the mid-80s, nursing homes are open to the public. Summer office of dictator Stalin was much more simple and frugal than you think. We also meet modern history and traces of historical figures related to deep gotta thing that was a special experience. Tekken rulers in the summer is very fond of Sochi always come here with my family I spent a vacation, especially an only daughter, Svetlana and love for that special. For the first time wateotgo in 1937, compendium often come every summer. And he came back the last time three years ago. Stalin was injured and did well to hand discomfort to another enjoyed the pool. Feeling finger marks Stalin's bloody billiard cues are looking for! It was grave. Chyeotneunde mainly electrical technicians of the villa, which is said to hate. The game is spent trying to be a kid to hate JI GIL did well, I did almost the same level and only in support. Why did this orally is stuck? I could read the fallacy of the Bolshevik revolution here. Earth has the perfect political ideology does not really? Stalin stayed with the family bedrooms are now being opened to a nursing home customers. Simply make a reservation will not stay in this historic room anyone. However, as a popular favorite wonak reservation pressed for about two years. Bridge and stairs designed for low Stalin uncomfortable red carpet, just as soon come up even Stalin walked. The dinner took place and received an important guest room! Tables and fireplaces are also intact. Traces of Stalin met at the ceased time in history was just gone.
