Odnowiona rezydencja wilanowska
“Renovated Wilanów residence” film is another production on which we worked with the Historia bez cenzury team. With Tomasz Okoń behind the camera and Wojtek Drewniak in front of it, you can always expect something unique and extremely interesting. And they didn’t disappoint this time. The new film is a nice and easy, pleasant presentation of information about the project that spanned two and a half years, and which was probably the greatest challenge among the “EU projects” carried out at the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów.

This richly decorated building constructed with a flourish, along with the surrounding park, survived almost unchanged from the seventeenth century to the present day, despite two world wars which swept through Poland. From the architectural point of view, the Baroque palace is a combination of sub-Parisian Versailles, an Italian garden villa and a typical Polish estate manor. John III Sobieski decided to give it a sweeping form after the victory which he won in the Battle of Vienna in 1683. The palace became the magnificent residence of the ruler, who stopped the Turkish conquest of Europe. Rich interior of the building is a tribute to the military successes of the king and his family and to the monarch's beloved wife, Marie Casimire, called Marysieńka.
After the death of King Sobieski, the palace was inhabited by other well-known aristocratic families: the Sieniawskis, the Czartoryskis, the Potockis and the Branickis, and numerous upgrades were supervised by the best architects. The last owner, Stanisław Kostka Potocki, opened here the first public museum in Poland in 1805. Now, these collections are the most valuable part of the Museum of King John III's Palace in Wilanów. It includes, among others, busts of ancient emperors, battle scenes, trophies and statues of ancient gods. Royal portraits, frescos and paintings of all schools of European painting are delightful.

Wilanów Palace 1677 - 1696
Wilanów Palace was once the royal summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski and King August II , as well as many distinguished and noble families . The impressive Palace combines the elements of a noble mansion , an Italian villa garden and a Palace in the style of Louis XIV , the French Sun King .
The Palace is one of the most beautiful examples of European Baroque architecture and splendor . In 1805 , Stanisław Potocki ( former owner of Wilanów in the 19th century ) assembled his art collection in the Palace , thereby creating one of the first museum in Poland .
Between the Palace and Wilanówskie Lake , there is two-level Baroque Italian Garden , with a romantic English style park in its southern area .
The Palace and park is an important place of culture events and concerts .
Music : Love Song
Would God I were the tender apple blossom
That floats and falls from off the twisted bough
To lie and faint within your silken bosom
Within your silken bosom as that does now.
Or would I were a little burnish'd apple
For you to pluck me, gliding by so cold
While sun and shade you robe of lawn will dapple
Your robe of lawn, and you hair's spun gold.
Yea, would to God I were among the roses
That lean to kiss you as you float between
While on the lowest branch a bud uncloses
A bud uncloses, to touch you, queen.
Nay, since you will not love, would I were growing
A happy daisy, in the garden path
That so your silver foot might press me going
Might press me going even unto death.

Built in the baroque style in the last quarter of the 17th century for the Polish king John III Sobieski. It remained in private hands until 1944 and thankfully survived the war. It is full of furnishings, art objects and famous paintings. The palace is one of Warsaw's popular tourist attractions.
The gardens are being renovated but were beautiful when we were there.Buses run from the old city to the gates of the palace.

Poland: Warsaw, Royal Castle (Part 2)
The Royal Castle ... the royal palace and official residence of the Polish monarchs; a magnificent example of baroque style - it was built in the 14th century. The personal offices of the king, as well as the administrative offices of the Royal Court of Poland were located there until the Partitions of Poland. Between 1926 and World War II the palace was the seat of the Polish president. In 1569 King Zygmunt III Waza moved his residence to the Royal Castle as Warsaw became the capital of Poland. Between 1598 and 1619 the king had the Royal Castle restyled into a polygon by Italian architects. In 18th century King Augustus III turned the East wing into Baroque style while King Stanislaw Poniatowski added the Royal library. The Royal castle served as both a residence for the kings as well as hosted Sejm sessions (Polish parliament).
History ... partially destroyed by German bombers during the Invasion of Poland, it was heavily damaged by German bombardment and artillery fire during the Warsaw Uprising. The remnants were blown up by German engineers in September 1944 and were not removed until 1971. Reconstructions were started in the early 1970s and in July 1974 the clock on the tower began working again, on the exact same time at which it was stopped by the Luftwaffe bombardment. Nowadays it is used as a branch of the National Museum and for ceremonial purposes. During the Siege of Warsaw in 1939 many of the works of art from the castle were transferred to several basements around Warsaw and hidden from German authorities. They survived the war and were put on exhibition in their original place.
