Wichita Falls Texas | Downtown Area
Downtown - Wichita Falls, Texas
Places of Interest Episode 1
Wichita Falls has many small businesses, museums, eateries and a lot of history throughout the downtown and surrounding area. Come along with us as we adventure in to the downtown area.
This is the first of a series of adventures we have planned. Today we ventured outside of the Railroad museum, which we plan to return to and go inside. Our time and their hours just did not cooperate today. But this should give you a small sample of what to expect. More information can be found at After adventuring around and getting several pictures of the downtown area, we went on over to the Wichita Falls Public Library where we were greeted by a very kind lady who graciously gave us a quick tour of the 50 Plus Zone which is located above the library. Check out the 50 Pus Zone here They offer plenty to do so one should never get bored. I’d like to stop here for a moment and mention the Wichita Falls Stroll-N-Roll event. It was being held the day of our visit. We only wish we would have known about it earlier in the day. Most everything that was opened for free to the public was closed or about to close by the time we found out about it. You can read more about the Stroll-N-Roll here Ran across a YouTube video that I think you might like if you liked this one. It can be found here
We are excited to bring you along with us as we head out to another adventure. To where? Subscribe so you can find out as soon as we release our next video. And if you like this or any other of our videos, be sure to click “like” and share it with your family and friends.
And as always,
Keep on keeping on!

A Tale of Two Soils: Contrasting Early Settlement Location in North Texas
Presented by: Dr. Benjamin Tillman, Associate Professor and Chair of Geography, TCU
Many of us have pondered the varied factors that drew 19th century settlers to North Texas. Join us as cultural geographer Benjamin Tillman explains how geography is the stage on which history is played out and the resources we use to study it. He will explore the story of the Cross Timbers and Grand Prairie regions of the state through environmental conditions, geologic features, migration patterns, and the cultural influences of its peoples.
Dr. Benjamin Tillman is Associate Professor and Chair of Geography at TCU where he specializes in cultural, historical, and Latin American geography. He is the author of _Imprints on Native Lands: The Miskito-Moravian Settlement Landscape of Eastern Honduras_ and many articles. In his eighteen years at the university, he and a colleague have inspired many young geographers by guiding student field trips to locales across Latin America.

Once Upon A Town//Thalia,Texas
Check out our first of hopefully many films here at Once Upon A Town!
Our first excursion we set out to to the western part of north Texas (think past Wichita Falls but not to Amarillo) and then headed back south . In the middle of the trip we visited Thalia, Texas in between Vernon and Crowell off highway 70. This town has some great history and plenty of buildings still standing.
There we met Rocky Wisdom and the Gray family who loved to talk about the town and its history and let us in the almost century old school building. Check it out and help spread the word !

In a Strange Land
As part of a larger campaign the reform and modernize the state hospital system in Texas, the Hogg Foundation presented its own vision for mental health services in April 1956, with the release of In a Strange Land. The thirty-minute documentary film was written by program officer Bert Kruger Smith, and produced by the Foundation with support from the film department at the University of Texas and the Texas Jaycees. Shot entirely at Terrell State Hospital, the film dramatically portrayed the life of people with mental illness, both inside and outside the state’s mental hospitals.
