Equality at the Ohio Craft Museum
The Ohio Craft Museum's current exhibit, Equality (on view through March 26, 2016), showcases figurative ceramics by 13 female artists from across the country. Organized by Columbus artist Janis Wunderlich, the show focuses on each artist's interpretation of equality in today's society. Many of the artists are members of Women Ceramic Sculptors, a group that uses clay to express their points of view on societal issues.
Cohen Film Collection
The Cohen Film Collection, located right here in Columbus, is part of the Cohen Media Group, an international film company that produces and distributes theatrical films. The CFC is the film group’s collection of rare movie classics and is dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the hundreds of titles within its archives, including the entire Buster Keaton library. We got an inside peek into this little-known Columbus treasure.

Hilliard artist Toni Lipsey learned to crochet when she was 13 and was immediately hooked. She demonstrates for us her love of the craft and gives us an introduction to “Owlbert.”

Visionary Artist Leon Kennedy at UPTOWN GALLERY
African-American spiritual visionary Leon Kennedy (b. 1945, Houston, Texas) uses mixed media on found objects to paint ecstatic visions, memory paintings, and urban life portraits. Kennedy is featured on several pages of Rosnak's Contemporary American Folk Art (Abbeville, 1996), and in Betty-Carol Sellen's important survey, Self Taught, Outsider, and Folk Art (McFarland & Company, 1999).
In 1997, the Smithsonian Institution purchased 200 significant works from the renowned Rosenak collection for an undisclosed sum estimated to be near $2M. This acquisition included a bed-sheet by Kennedy. The 1997 Folk Art Messenger, Vol. 10, No.3, reported that the acquisition makes the Smithsonian American Art Museum the world's preeminent repository for American self-taught art.
It is our desire to see them as part of the history of 20th-century American art, said Chuck Rosenak.
Mentioning Kennedy, the article notes these works were the first American collection exhibited at the Collection de l'Art Brut, Switzerland, which testifies to its quality and uniqueness. The Leon Kennedy masterwork now resides at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, while photos of Kennedy and other materials of Kennedy's are available for study at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Mr. David D. Dunlap ’83
Mr. David D. Dunlap ’83 graduated with his B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M where he was a member of A-Battery and the Ross Volunteers. Dunlap worked for BJ Services from 1984 to 2010 where he served as Executive Vice President and COO. In 2010, he moved to Superior Energy Services where he currently serves as President and CEO. Dunlap has served on the Woodland’s Children’s Museum Board, The John Cooper School Board of Trustees, and the National Petroleum Council. Dunlap received the 2013 Transformational CEO award for the United States Gulf Coast Area. He is currently on the 12th Man Foundation Board of Trustees; the President’s Board of Visitors for the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets; the College of Engineering Advisory Council; the Department of Petroleum Engineering Industry Board; and was a 2017 Inductee to the A&M Petroleum Engineering Academy of Distinguished Graduates. Dunlap is a founding member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish in The Woodlands. The future Dunlap Drill Field will be named in his honor due to his generous donation for the new Music Activity Center. Dunlap is a longtime member of the Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets Association.

112th Spindletop Anniversary
BEAUMONT - by ASHLEY GASTON - Water spewed about one hundred feet in the air this morning. It was the Lucas Gusher re-enacting the birth of Spindletop and the first major gusher of the Texas oil boom. Employees with Gladys city Boomtown also re-enacted what life would be like in 1901. Families got to meet the blacksmiths, make nails, drink at the saloon and learn about newspapers at the printing press. The re-enactment is a way to show southeast how the United States became the world's leading oil producer.
SATURN V - Apollo 18 & 19 Kennedy Space Center
Letzter Einsatz:
Der letzte Start der Saturn V erfolgte am 14. Mai 1973, als die Raumstation Skylab in die Erdumlaufbahn gebracht wurde. Der letzte Start einer Saturn-I-B erfolgte am 15. Juli 1975 im Rahmen des Apollo-Sojus-Projekts.
Zum Ende des Apollo-Programms waren noch vier Saturn-IB-Raketen (SA-211 bis SA-214) und zwei Saturn-V-Raketen (SA-514 und SA-515) im Bau. Die betriebsbereite Rakete SA-209 war als Ersatz für das Apollo-Sojus-Projekt verwendet worden.
Drei Saturn-V-Raketen werden zur Zeit ausgestellt, jedoch bestehen sie aus Teilen von verschiedenen Raketen, teils aus flugfähigen Stufen, teils aus Testexemplaren. Das einzige Ausstellungsstück, das vollständig aus flugtauglichen Modulen besteht, liegt seit 1977 vor dem Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston. Sie gehört inzwischen dem National Air and Space Museum.
Im Besucherzentrum des Kennedy Space Center sind eine Saturn IB und eine Saturn V ausgestellt. What to know
An important stop on the Southwest Trail, James Bowie, Sam Houston, and Davy Crockett famously traveled through here. James Black, a local blacksmith, actually forged the legendary Bowie knife. From 1863-1865, it served as the Confederate capital of Arkansas. The 1874 Courthouse serves as the park visitor center. Start there, and continue to the Blacksmith Shop, Weapons Museum, Print Museum, and other historic locations that make up the largest collection of 19th-century buildings in the state. Williams Tavern Restaurant serves home cooking daily from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
From its establishment in 1824, Washington was an important stop on the rugged Southwest Trail for pioneers traveling to Texas. James Bowie, Sam Houston and Davy Crockett traveled through Washington. James Black, a local blacksmith, is credited with creating the legendary Bowie knife here. Later, the town became a major service center for area planters, merchants and professionals. Washington was the Confederate Capital of Arkansas from 1863-1865.
Established in 1973, the state park interprets Washington from 1800-1900. The 1874 Courthouse serves as the park visitor center. Visitors can also see the 1836 Courthouse, Blacksmith Shop, Weapons Museum, several residences and other historic structures on guided tours. Buildings open for touring vary each day. Lunch featuring delicious, Southern country fare is served daily in the 1832 Williams' Tavern Restaurant.

The Sidewalks of New York: The Documentary (CC)
This film is a documentary that begins with the tale of the famous tune and builds every moment toward the fascinating story behind Governor Al Smith, the most forgotten historical figure in American history. The elections of 1924 and 1928 are featured prominently in the story's second half, and along the way a handful of songs from the same time period are played to portray that, while this film is somewhat about the tune 'The Sidewalks of New York', the other songs do their part to lift up and bring the story home, all joining together to complete one of the most inspiring tales in New York history.

Davis takes a moment away from his studio at Gallery 900 in Arlington, Texas, to discuss his creative process. Davis finds the different ways to address the lack of 'Artistic Influence' in society through his artwork. Davis is a member of the band, Artemis Funk.
Born in 1986 in East Saint Louis, Illinois, Davis is a self-taught artist who has embraced his generation through a myriad of different artistic stylings.
Davis graduated from Arlington Sam Houston High School in 2004, and served as a jet mechanic in the United States Marine Corps until 2009.
Davis studied journalism at the University of Texas at Arlington from 2011-13, and served as a Staff Writer for The Shorthorn Newspaper. Davis has also contributed for ESPN, TWC (Spectrum) Sports, Dallas Entertainment Journal, Cowboys24x7, and many other media outlets.
In 2011, Davis made the transition to the visual arts. With a strong background in music, Davis continues to find unique ways to accompany his work with music, as well as issues that he is passionate about. His artistic focus intersects between architecture, sculpture, music, and spatial analysis. His catalogue includes over 200 works.
In 2016, Davis founded the Arlington Artist Guild, an organization focused on expanding the Arts through collaborative projects, mentoring, and community involvement. Davis’ artwork can be found in public and private art collections across the world. Installations include ART-USA, Near Southside Historical District, Park Plaza Mural Project, and the Arlington Museum of Art.
Davis currently resides in Arlington, Texas and contributes for Precision Press Printing and Graphic Design.

The lecture series explores artworks from the exhibitions 'Wild Spaces, Open Seasons: Hunting and Fishing in American Art' and 'Caught on Paper' and considers the various ways and reasons why artists have depicted Americans in their urban, rural, and wilderness environments.
The final talk in this free lecture series will be Wednesday, November 29, at 3 p.m. in the museum's auditorium.

Rare and historically significant mid-19th century map of the American southwest including all of Texas and California as well as Oregon and Utah Territories.

Huge map has been thoughtlessly trimmed down long ago, removing the bottom 10 which included two insets (Yucatan and Mexico City environs) and some of the blank margins.
The entire North America and Mexico printed area remains complete as issued, blank margins around piano key border apparently thoughtlessly trimmed to facilitate folding. Still an oversized large format map as it survives, a noble fragment of a desirable and rare map.
A map of some rarity. Numerous earlier editions prior to 1845 are noted within AMPR, although all are scarce and moderately valuable, with prices well into the multiple thousands for the handful of different issues that appear.
There is no AMPR recording of this 1862 issue. It appears to be the same earlier plate, here amended with an assortment of political boundary changes.
California is now shown with it's separate state outline, as is Texas. Oregon, New Mexico and Utah border configurations are territorial and only briefly transitional in this shared manner.
Pre-Gadsden purchase border with Mexico in Southwest although it had been signed eight years prior.
Notations within Texas refer to great herds of buffalo and specific Indian tribes. The only finished railroad routes in this state is shown connecting Houston to Washington and a fort on the Brazos river [Houston and Texas Central Railway Company]. A second proposed Texas railroad line is shown in the northeast corner of the state to the border with Indian Territory. By this date there were still under 470 completed miles of track within the state.
Historically significant map for capturing Jedidiah Smith's 1826-7 travels and track in the region. The mountain ranges shown in the Great Basin worth noting, an interesting Indian Territorial division.
Defects noted above, one fold line intersection with short splitting but no apparent loss of printed area.
