Tennessee | 24 Hours in Nashville (Music City)
Nashville is the state capitol of Tennessee with a population of just over 650,000 people which is relatively small in comparison with other cities in the US. The city itself stradles the Cumberland River, which goes on to join the Mississippi River in Memphis. Nashville is famous throughout the world has being a place where musicians and music fans gravitate hence the nickname Music City, other than music Nashville is also a large rail hub as it is the confluence of different national railroads within the US.
The video is a composite of 3 days worth of footage taken while I was in Nashville a.k.a Music City while attending a conference- given the fact that for two of the days I was in the conference center, I felt this was best way of portraying life around Nashville and certainly Broadway over a 24 hour period.
All the bars which feature live music acts are predominantly set around Broadway between 5th Avenue North and 1st Avenue North a distance of about 0.25 miles. Just off Broadway within the avenues listed above are the other attractions- Ryman Auditorium, Country Music Hall of Fame to name a few. Unfortunately I didn't have time to visit those.
At night Broadway is very lively with different genres of music and lots of drinks flowing; I found that some venues imposed a cover charge which I avoided as there are many others which are free to get it- the cover charge thing annoys me when the venue itself is charging exorbitant money for the food and drink on offer. You can have a good time on Broadway, but like the rest of Nashville its not exactly a cheap night out and I would say above average in terms of cost. But if you are a fan of rock / country music then I would definetly put a visit to Broadway in Nashville on your bucket list as it is something that just has to be experienced.
In the morning broadway is quite and the streets are normally wet after being rinsed down from the night before - no need to explain why! Other than bars with live music, Broadway has a few record shops and clothing shops which sell the typical southern attire of jeans, fancy shirt, big belt, boots and the obligatory stetson; not sure if that is a stereotype or not, so no offense intended- especially as I only saw a handful of people dressed like during my entire time in Nashville / Tennessee.
While staying in Nashville, you will on occasion hear train horns in the distance- I first heard one in the morning from my 22nd Floor hotel room, which took me by surprise! Nashville is a hub for the CSX railroad company and can be a magnet for trainspotters a.k.a 'Rail Fans' in the US. Having heard about how big American freight trains can be in comparison with those in the UK, I decided to go looking for one at the railroad crossing on 2nd Avenue North and also Demonbreun Street. After a short wait, sure enough a huge train which took approximately 10 minutes to pass- so given an estimated speed of 15 mph that would make the train approximately 2.5 miles long. Nashville is a rail hub at is the cross road between rails travelling North-to-South and East-to-West. Hence throughout the day, you will hear train horns in the distance, which from what I seen is a bit of an annoyance for certain areas within East Nashville.
During my time in Nashville it was Marine Week, whereby a significant amount of US Marines decend on the city to perform live demonstrations, static displays of military hardware, musical performances and demonstrations of time honours Marine Corps traditions. It was very impressive- especially as one afternoon a MV-22 Osprey hovered over the city and landed in one the open areas.
I enjoyed my time in Nashville as it has always somewhere I wanted to visit due to my tastes in music! It surprised me how small and compact the city was- especially the music areas since alot of it is centred around the lower end of Broadway. The actual recording studios etc are located out of town nowadays or in the big high-rises. If I return in the future, I'll definetly want to see a performance in the Ryman Auditorium and explore some of the other venues that were on offer.

Driving Downtown Streets - Broadway - Nashville Tennessee USA - Episode 44.
Starting Point: Broadway - .
Broadway is major thoroughfare in Nashville, Tennessee. It includes Lower Broadway, a renowned entertainment district for country music.
Landmarks
Lower Broadway consists of Broadway between First and Fifth avenues. Its features include the Bridgestone Arena, the Nashville Convention Center and various honky tonk bars, including Robert's Western World and Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.[2] The Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum are both within one block of this area. Lower Broadway is a particularly crowded place during the annual CMA Music Festival.
Nashville is the capital of the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Davidson County. The city is a center for the music, healthcare, publishing, banking and transportation industries, and is home to numerous colleges and universities. Reflecting the city's position in state government, Nashville is home to the Tennessee Supreme Court's courthouse for Middle Tennessee. It is known as a center of the country music industry, earning it the nickname Music City U.S.A.
Tourism
Perhaps the biggest factor in drawing visitors to Nashville is its association with country music. Many visitors to Nashville attend live performances of the Grand Ole Opry, the world's longest running live radio show. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is another major attraction relating to the popularity of country music. The Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, the Opry Mills regional shopping mall and the General Jackson showboat, are all located in what is known as Music Valley.
Nashville has several arts centers and museums, including the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art, the Tennessee State Museum, the Johnny Cash Museum, Fisk University's Van Vechten and Aaron Douglas Galleries, Vanderbilt University's Fine Art Gallery and Sarratt Gallery, and the full-scale replica of the Parthenon.
Economy
As the home of country music, Nashville has become a major music recording and production center. All of the Big Four record labels, as well as numerous independent labels, have offices in Nashville, mostly in the Music Row area.[44] Nashville has been home to the headquarters of guitar company Gibson since 1984. Since the 1960s, Nashville has been the second-largest music production center (after New York) in the U.S.[45] As of 2006, Nashville's music industry is estimated to have a total economic impact of $6.4 billion per year and to contribute 19,000 jobs to the Nashville area.[46]
Although Nashville is renowned as a music recording center and tourist destination, its largest industry is health care. Nashville is home to more than 300 health care companies, including Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the largest private operator of hospitals in the world.
The automotive industry is also becoming increasingly important for the entire Middle Tennessee region. Nissan North America moved its corporate headquarters in 2006 from Gardena, California (Los Angeles County) to Franklin, southwest of Nashville. Nissan also has its largest North American manufacturing plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. Largely as a result of the increased development of Nissan and other Japanese economic interests in the region, Japan moved its former New Orleans consulate-general to Nashville's Palmer Plaza.
Bridgestone has a strong presence with their North American headquarters located in Nashville, with manufacturing plants and a distribution center in nearby counties.
Other major industries in Nashville include insurance, finance, and publishing (especially religious publishing). The city hosts headquarters operations for several Protestant denominations, including the United Methodist Church, Southern Baptist Convention, National Baptist Convention USA, and the National Association of Free Will Baptists.
Nashville is also known for some of their famously popular Southern confections, including Goo Goo Clusters (which have been made in Nashville since 1912).[50]
Fortune 500 companies with offices within Nashville include Dell,[51] HCA, Bridgestone, Community Health Systems, Nissan North America, Tractor Supply Company, UBS and Dollar General.

Nashville: The Music City - Traveling Robert
In this video we arrive at the Music City and enjoy its notorious night life. The main drag is called Broadway, and it begins at the Cumberland river and it goes for about a mile to the west. This is the site of all the famous honky tonk bars. There is great live music everywhere. In the morning we explore downtown a little bit passing by the Tennessee State Capitol, the war memorial, the Ryman Auditorium, often called the Mother Church of Country Music. We then enjoy a beer and some wonderful music at the Legends Corner. Our next stop is the Country Music Hall of Fame, and my favorite part, the guided tour of RCA Studio B, where Elvis Presley and many other great luminaries of rock n' roll and country music recorded many hit songs. We end our day in Nashville at the Centennial Park, admiring the only life size replica of the Parthenon in the world.

Downtown Nashville at Night (Nashville, Tennessee)
Visiting downtown Nashville at night! It's something out of the ordinary if you have never visited! It's like a little Las Vegas Strip, but instead of casinos, country music bars line this one high street 24 hours a day!
Nashville is the capital and most populous city of the U.S. state of Tennessee. The city is the county seat of Davidson County and is located on the Cumberland River. The city's population ranks 24th in the U.S. According to 2017 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, the total consolidated city-county population stood at 691,243. The balance population, which excludes semi-independent municipalities within Davidson County, was 667,560 in 2017.Located in northern Middle Tennessee, Nashville is the main core of the largest metropolitan area in Tennessee. The 2017 population of the entire 13-county Nashville metropolitan area (known colloquially as The Mid-State) was 1,903,045. The 2015 population of the Nashville—Davidson–Murfreesboro–Columbia combined statistical area, a larger trade area, was 2,027,489.Named for Francis Nash, a general of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, the city was founded in 1779. The city grew quickly due to its strategic location as a port and railroad center. Nashville seceded with Tennessee during the American Civil War and in 1862 became the first state capital to fall to Union troops. After the war the city reclaimed its position and developed a manufacturing base.
Since 1963, Nashville has had a consolidated city-county government, which includes six smaller municipalities in a two-tier system. The city is governed by a mayor, a vice-mayor, and a 40-member metropolitan council; 35 of the members are elected from single-member districts, while the other five are elected at-large. Reflecting the city's position in state government, Nashville is home to the Tennessee Supreme Court's courthouse for Middle Tennessee.
Nashville is a center for the music, healthcare, publishing, private prison, banking and transportation industries, and is home to numerous colleges and universities such as Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, Fisk University, and Lipscomb University. Entities with a large presence or headquarters in the city include AT&T, Bridgestone, CoreCivic, Hospital Corporation of America, LifeWay Christian Resources, AllianceBernstein, Logan's Roadhouse, Ryman Hospitality Properties, the Southern Baptist Convention, and the National Baptist Convention.

Downtown Fun in Nashville TN
Downtown Nashville is so much fun. There's music everywhere. On the night we visited, Sting was playing at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium, the Tedeschi Trucks Band played at the Ryman, and then there's clubs along Broadway and 2nd Ave. The local Nashville talent is amazing. If you're on a budget, most clubs offer no cover late afternoons, just keep a drink on the table and remember to tip the band for their hard work to entertain. If you have more to spend, then hit the Grand Ole Opry or one of the today's larger acts is sure to hit Nashville during your stay. Here's a tip. If your don't want to drive downtown and look for parking, then call Music City Shuttle. They service most of the Nashville RV campgrounds. Super friendly with pick up and drop off on the hour. Joan and I always plan a couple nights downtown and have never been disappointed.
If you want to see what's offered in the area, just Google Nashville downtown clubs.
