My car is in the shop today for maintenance so I thought I'd take a stroll around my neighborhood using my GoPro.

This is my daughter Anna Kristen and son-in-law Kyle Gadoury's home in Okinawa Japan. The people are friendly, they have wonderful friends and the island is a paradise for swimming, scuba, snorkle and fishing. I am really enjoying my visit with them.

#SwimOki #okinawaswimlife I started taking my son to Okinawa Swim Life lessons two weeks ago and I cannot believe the improvement..he could not swim without on of those floaty things tied to his back. I took lessons for a year at a place in Virginia and he has learned more in the last two weeks than he did in a year at the other place.

Here is another video of the 3 Whale Sharks in captivity in Yomitan, Okinawa Japan. Unfortunately, the battery ran out, so the video is short. My underwater case also leaked on this outing and broke my camera. Luckily, I was able to get the video and pictures of the memory card. I bought a new camera, so I will be taking more video in the near future.

Exploring Okinawa - Yomitan Pottery Festival 2014
The past few decades have witnessed the growth of a potters’ enclave amidst the scrubby sub-tropical brush of the Yomitan Peninsula. Around forty-five potters showcase their wares and demonstrate techniques in workshops. Fish seem to be the most common motif adorning the colorful creations. There are also a considerable number of stoic ceramic shisa, Okinawa’s famous lion dogs, guarding the stores and your home.
In the middle of the village, an old-style noborigama (climbing) kiln graces a small incline. The red-tiled structure is a communal kiln, shared by many of Yachimun no Sato’s artisans. Several times a year, it’s fired up to heat a batch of joyachi, glazed pieces that comprise the majority of the village’s income. There are also a number of private kilns scattered around the area, but be respectful of the roped-off sections. Most are off-limits to casual visitors.
U.S. Army Garrison - Okinawa share the holiday spirit with neighbors from Yomitan Village.
U.S. Army Garrison - Okinawa's Cultural Exchange Program got into the Christmas spirit Dec. 16 at Havana's on Torii Station where 14 residents of nearby Yomitan Village were greeted by Santa Claus and treated to holiday cheer. The Christmas party was supported by 13 Army Family members who created a festive atmosphere complete with a Christmas Tree, holiday music, good food, photos and a reading of A Night Before Christmas with Kris Kringle. One resident of Yomitan Village fondly remembered visiting Torii Station as a child for a Christmas party nearly 50 years ago as gifts were exchanged and bonds were formed with Army spouses and Garrison leaders.

Back in November 2013 I encountered this man while visiting the Big Shisa on the Yomitan Peninsula. I had asked him if he'd use my camera to take my picture standing next to the 20+ foot tall monster. After that he sold me a couple of stalks of freshly cut sugar cane. This evening, Feb 24th, 2014, I saw him again but this time I was at Zanpa Beach! He had his familiar little plastic box with sugar cane and got another 100 yen from me. I shook hands, as you'll see, and regretted having given him such a firm grip.
