Myrtos beach is one of the most famous beaches in Kefalonia, is located in the north-west of Kefalonia island, in the Ionian Sea of Greece .A steep, winding road, about 2 km in length and with hairpin turns, leads down to the beach from the village of Divarata.
It was used as the location for the mine explosion episode in the film Captain Corellias Mandolin...

We kick off our first day in Kefalonia, Greece by driving to the most beautiful beach on the island, Myrtos Beach. It has actually been ranked as one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world for many years but interestingly, it didn't actually exist until after the 1953 earthquake that raised Kefalonia by 1 metre.

Myrtos Beach has been awarded many times for its cleanness and natural beauty among the best beaches in Greece and the world. When the wind is from the south the water is crystal clear, if from the north, high energy waves cause friction between the small pebbles, the sediments give a turquoise color to the sea. This was the case today, the waves can be dangerous, there is an abrupt drop in the shoreline, this beach is not for small children. In order to find a parking space we arrived at 9:30AM, after 11:00, one has to park along the road 2 K up the hill, in the summer months.

Myrtos Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches we have seen in Greece and there are many! Seen from the road above, the panorama offered by Myrtos beach is really stunning at every moment of the day. The turquoise colour of the water makes you realize right away you absolutely have to find your way to the white-pebble beach to experience it firsthand.
