【ふるさと郡上TV】長良川鉄道
岐阜県美濃加茂市太田町にある美濃太田駅から白鳥町の北濃駅までの72.1kmを約2時間で走る『長良川鉄道』は昭和61年（1986年）に開業。地元では「長鉄」（ながてつ）「レールバス」等 の愛称で呼ばれ学生の通学手段として欠かせない存在です。途中の美並町にある温泉施設「子宝の湯」は、駅に併設されており、長良川鉄道を利用し入場すると入浴料無料で利用する事が出来ます。『ご当地！ふるさと味覚列車』『郡上八幡宿泊乗車券』など、地元と一体になった期間限定イベント列車や乗車券の発売もあります。美並町深戸駅と八幡町相生駅間の長良川に架かる鉄橋を渡る姿や長良川沿いを走る姿は絶景の撮影スポットとしても人気が高く、風情のある駅などもいくつかの映画のロケ地に使われています。
同線の終着駅でもある、郡上市白鳥町歩岐島にある北濃駅には登録有形文化財 旧国鉄越美南線北濃駅機関車転車台があります。この転車台は、地元の人々の熱意により結成された保存会により現在も動かせる状態が維持されています。

There is a really unique point on the line. It is the Kodakara-no-yu, a hot spring at the Minami-Kodakara-no-yu Station. The hot spring is located on the platform. Train users take the hot spring for free.
There are other advantageous tickets, such as a railway ticket including accommodation, etc.
The view from the train window is wonderful in every season. You can see the Japanese satoyama scenes. That is why this train has big fans not only Japanese but also non Japanese people.

Trains of Japan - 日本の電車
For not having a tripod, I thought the video turned out pretty good in this one! I visited Japan from June 18-30th with my Church, Cascades Baptist, on a missions trip to spread the gospel and rebuild a church camp ground for local Filipino and Japanese kids. While I was there, I had many opportunities to photograph and video tape Japan's great commuter rail system. Three railroads: The JR Group, the Nagaragawa, and the Mietetsu Railroads are all featured in this video.
JR had quite the interesting power on its trains. Nicknamed, Marshmallows, by the local Filipinos, the two car trains served Minokamo, Gifu station once every 15-20 minutes. Unlike American, trains arrive at convenient times, allowing for the company to make a profitable service. Once Amtrak figures this philosophy out in Michigan, they might just break even! JR also has a large freight operation in Japan. However, I never had the chance to film them in action.
The second railroad in this video is the Nagaragawa Railroad, which is also known as the Etsumi-Nan Line. It operates in Gifu, between Mino-Ōta, Minokamo and Hokunō, Gujō. In the video, we see a small, single unit car arrive at Seki, Gifu. This is the only railway line the company operates. The line was originally operated by Japanese National Railways. JNR planned to connect Etsumi-Nan Line and their Etsumi-Hoku Line (Etsumi North Line), but the plan was never realized. The north line was later succeeded by JR West, while the south line was taken by Nagaragawa Railway, a newly founded third sector company, in 1986. As the company name suggests, the line runs along Nagara River. Because of the declining population and frequent natural disasters (such as typhoons or snow falls), it is in dire business condition.
Finally, I caught the Meitetsu Railroad in Gifu, Japan at the famous Gifu-Shin Station. Trains departed roughly every three minutes or so, in a very timely fashion. The Meitetsu Railroad is one of Japan's largest passenger rail companies, serving the fast majority of Aichi and Gifu.

Gujo- Odori, has begun last night at Gujo-Hachiman, in the heart of Japan.
During the summer months, the traditional dance with over four hundred years' history attracts over 300,000 visitors to this small town nestled by the Yoshida River and the Nagara River in the deep north mountains of Gifu prefecture. If you wish to experience a scenic train ride along the Nagara River, take Hide-view Hida Express at JR Nagoya station to Mino-Otah and change trains to Nagaragawa Tetsudo line for Gujo-Hachiman. If you wish to enjoy a lunch of hand-made soba noodles (buckwheat) with seasonal tempura made by me, why not stop at Seki on the way. Gujo-Odori, dance does not begin until after dark almost every evening from July 10 through to September 4.
