JAPAN TRIP - Asakusa, Tokyo 【HD】
Asakusa is a district in Taitō, Tokyo, Japan, most famous for the Sensō-ji, a Buddhist temple dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon. There are several more temples in Asakusa, as well as various festivals.
Asakusa is the terminus of the Metro Ginza line (G19), which is the best way to get into the area, perhaps by connecting from the Yamanote line at Ueno. Other options are to take the eponymous Toei Asakusa line(A18), which carves a path through eastern and southern Tokyo, or by taking the Toei Oedo Line to the Kuramae Station(E11), or by using the Tobu-Isesaki Line.
Cab Station Ltd's Super Shuttle bus service runs four daily round-trips between Narita Airport and Asakusa for ¥1000. Buses pick up/discharge near the Toei Asakusa subway and the Tsukuba Express line.
Cruises down the Sumidagawa river depart from a wharf only 5-minute walk from the temple, by the Azuma-bashi bridge. There are a number of boat routes available, so have a look at the map and then decide which one to pick.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Ningyo-Yaki〜
Ningyo-yaki (人形焼) is very popular in Tokyo Asakusa where you can watch them being baked. This is one of my favorite Japanese sweets and a very good omiyage gift.
Ningyo is the Japanese word for doll, so the name of this sweet reads baked dolls. Ningo-yaki are small cakes baked in special molds. Some of them are just sweet cake batter, others are filled with sweet anko bean paste. Ningyo-yaki without filling are sometimes called Castella-yaki, like the Japanese style sponge cake Castella (カステラ).
Ningyo-yaki are popular souvenirs and it is fun to discover the different shapes made by different shops. At some of the shops you can watch Ningyo-yaki being made and try them fresh. For souvenirs you can buy anything from a single cake to a big decorated box. The cakes will keep for a few days and do not loose their shape.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Nakamise〜
Passing through the vermilion-lacquered Kaminarimon Gate, which is famous as the symbol of Asakusa, Taito-ku, Tokyo, you will find much to surprise and excite you. Kaminarimon is the entrance to Nakamise, the front approach to Senso-ji Temple. The approximately 250 m long approach from Kaminarimon Gate to Hozomon Gate is called Nakamise-Dori. There are numerous stores lined up on this approach, about 50 on the east side and 30 on the west side, all of them old and historical. You can fully enjoy the atmosphere of shitamachi (downtown Tokyo). Various products are sold here, including Japanese-style goods that are popular among young tourists from abroad, such as hair accessories, Japanese clogs, wooden dolls and chiyogami (colored paper), folk art products, postcards with the scenery of Asakusa in Edo Period (1603-1868), ningyoyaki and kaminari-okoshi, which are the representative souvenir confectioneries from Tokyo, and classic Japanese food using nori and kombu seaweeds. Nakamise Dori is always filled with tourists.

Kaminarimon, Nakamise Dori, Sensoji
When approaching the temple, visitors first enter through the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), the outer gate of Sensoji Temple and the symbol of Asakusa and the entire city of Tokyo.
A shopping street of over 200 meters, called Nakamise, leads from the outer gate to the temple's second gate, the Hozomon. Alongside typical Japanese souvenirs such as yukata and folding fans, various traditional local snacks from the Asakusa area are sold along the Nakamise. The shopping street has a history of several centuries.

Japan Event - Tokyo’s Most Intense & Craziest Festival | Sanja Matsuri 2019 (三社祭) - Asakusa Tokyo
Sanja Matsuri (三社祭, literally Three Shrine Festival), or Sanja Festival, is one of the three great Shinto festivals in Tokyo. It is considered one of the wildest and largest. The festival is held in honor of Hinokuma Hamanari, Hinokuma Takenari, and Hajino Nakatomo, the three men who established and founded the Sensō-ji Buddhist temple. Sanja Matsuri is held on the third weekend of every May at Asakusa Shrine. Its prominent parades revolve around three mikoshi (portable shrines referenced in the festival's name), as well as traditional music and dancing. Over the course of three days, the festival attracts 1.5 to 2 million locals and tourists every year.

Tokyo 2015 - Sensoji Temple and Nakamise Shopping Street
The main attraction in this video is the Sensoji Temple! This religious landmark is filled with Buddhist statues, smoking pots and praying people! The fortune-telling game and huge lanterns are also must-sees in the Temple!
Nakamise Shopping Street is like a mall cramped into one long, narrow street. Many stores specialize in food, but there are also shops for kimonos, souvenirs and even masks! And boy, is it totally crowded beyond belief!
If you liked this video, check out some of my other videos on my channel!
Visiting Asakusa. Sesonji Temple and Nakamise shopping street.
Walking from Kaminarimon (Kaminari Gate) through Nakamise shopping street to the temple grounds. The Nakamise shopping street stretches over approximately 250 meters from Kaminarimon to the main grounds of Sensoji Temple. It is lined by more than 50 shops, which offer local specialties and the usual array of tourist souvenirs.
