Situated 63km from Seoul, Nami Island or Namiseom Island (남이섬 종합휴양지) is half-moon shaped isle in Cheongpyeong Lake, Gangwon Province. With the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944, the river water rose and as a result, this island was formed.
Nami Island was named after General Nami, a notable figure in Korean history who served during the reign of King Sejo (1455-1468) and courageously fought in battles but died at the age of 28 after being falsely accused of treason.
In 1965, Mr. Byeong-Do Minn aka Tree-grandfather used his retirement pension to purchase Nami Island and started to plant thousands of trees.
In 2006, Nami Island declared its cultural independence from the Republic of Korea and became the Naminara Republic. This micro-nation has its own diplomatic and cultural policies including having its own national flag, passport, currency, and stamp.

Yonsei University offer a day tour to Name Island in Chuncheon, South Korea to all exchange students and took the offer.
Nami Island is a small half moon shape island in middle of the Han River. The only way to get there is by a quick ferry ride. This island is the film location for the popular 2003 Winter Sonata.

SOUTH KOREA VLOG: Nami Island + Chuncheon | VLOG #9
I booked a tour to explore Nami Island and Chuncheon during my 2nd week in Korea! Nami Island is known for being the place in which the famous kdrama Winter Sonata was filmed. We also checked out Chuncheon for a bit, but I would need to go back to get more out of it haha.

NOVEMBER 28, 2014—We just arrived in Seoul about a couple of hours ago on the first day of our 6-day, 12-person South Korea Family Vacation and Tour. Winter has officially arrived in Seoul but it isn't snowing yet. Instead there's a light drizzle as we boarded the Ferry in Chuncheon. Our first destination: Nami Island.
Nami Island is a small, moon-shaped Island in Chuncheon, South Korea. It is a very popular tourist destination, especially during the winter season. It's biggest attraction is the fact that it was the location of several major scenes in the immensely popular TV series, Winter Sonata.

NAMI ISLAND
Namiseom Island was formed as a result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam. It is a half moon-shaped isle, and on it is the grave of General Nami, who led a great victory against the rebels in the 13th year of the 7th king of the Joseon Dynasty, King Sejo (reign 1455-1468).
Namiseom Island is 63 kilometers away from Seoul in the direction of Chuncheon, and is famous for its beautiful tree lined roads. The island is 30 minutes away from Chuncheon and an hour away from the suburbs of Seoul. Since it is not far from Seoul, many couples and families come to visit.

Beautiful Nami Island South Korea (Naminara) Spring Season
Nami Island or Namiseom Island (Naminara) in South Korea is a tiny half-moon shaped island located in Chuncheon, South Korea, formed as it was inundated by the rising water of the North Han River as the result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam (청평댐) in 1944. Its name originated from General Nami (남이장군), who died at the age of 28 after being falsely accused of treason during the reign of King Sejo, the seventh king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. Although his grave was not discovered, there were a pile of stones where his body was supposed to be buried. It was believed that if someone took even one stone from there, it would bring misfortune to their house. A tour company arranged the grave with soil and then developed Namisum into an amusement park.
