Atali, The Rishikesh One Experience
Over the years, the stretch of the Ganga river (India's holiest river, which makes the Great Indo-Gangetic plain) above the pilgrim town of Rishikesh had infrastructure that was limited to the odd lodge, and catered mainly to the pilgrim traffic headed up to the holy shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath. Very little existed for the leisure and active traveler, or the vacationer, considering this is the quickest one can get to the Himalaya. Atali, set amidst reserved Forest and over 300 trees, has changed all that.
Thirty kms from Rishikesh is North India's most exciting active and leisure holiday destination. The property houses 22 well appointed, independent, air-conditioned cottages with breathtaking views of the Ganga. Sip sundowners after a long day outdoors and dine under the stars.

Preparing rations and porter loads to leave Agora for Dodital
Dodital is a freshwater lake in Uttarakhand, India, situated at a height of 3,024 metres (9,921 ft). To reach Dodital, one may reach Uttarkashi by road and then walk to Dodital here via Bewra and other minor villages alongside the Ganges river.
According to one of the popular legends Lord Ganesha chose this place as his abode. There is a temple devoted to Lord Ganesha here. Another name for this lake is 'Dhundital' meaning Ganesh ka tal or lake of Ganesha.

Chandrashila and Pangarchulla Summit - A GoPro biking & trekking experience
The story starts with me and my brother preparing our bike for the journey that was Jaipur - Rishikesh - Chopta - Joshimath - Jaipur. The preparation included (for the bike lovers), saddle stays for luggage, auxiliary lights for night driving, tank bag for extra storage and easy accessibility of important gadgets and belongings, petrol and water cans on either side of the bike. The 182kgs Himalayan converted into a 350kgs beast.
As planned, we did white water rafting in Rishikesh but couldn’t do the bungee jump as we missed the permitted window. Due to the low water level in the Ganga river, we chose to do the 16km stretch from Shivpuri to Laxman Jhula. Although, note that Rafting in the month of December is itself a scary task when it comes to dipping into heart freezing water of Ganga river. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
Going towards the end of the rafting route, nearing the Laxman jhula, we noticed a man crossing the river which is very common in Rishikesh. People, out of religiousness or stubbornness, often cross the river Ganga as proof of something which they believe is very important. We saw that man fighting for his life as he was closing in towards the other end of the river. We tried to raft as fast as possible to reach that guy and save him. We and the people around were shouting as loud as possible to help him to hold on a little longer so that we could reach him. We were an inch away from him when he gave up fighting. My brother sitting next to me tried to hand him the oar but he was already under the water to take hold of anything. We waited but he never came back up. The rescue boat came just a few seconds after. The man just drowned in front of us and we couldn't do anything about it. We made peace with the incident later that day.
We left for Chopta the next morning and set up a camp there for the night. It was freezing cold in the village. There was snow all around and we had to dig out the snow for the tent. The temp inside the tent itself was -7degC during the night. The locals were quite helpful during our stay and we were able to get good food before the trek next day.
We headed towards the Tungnath temple the next morning and reached within 2.5 hours of trekking. It was a very easy yet beautiful trek. We were accompanied by a dog, obviously. The path was easily visible although it was covered with snow all along. It took another 1.5 hours to reach the Chandrashila summit for which we couldn’t see any trail of any sort. The view at the top was mesmerizing. It was a very clear sky and we could see all the peaks around in the distance. We had a very clear view of the Nanda Devi, the highest peak located entirely within India. As a summit tradition, we took off our clothes and felt the cool breeze under the bright morning sun. It was a great feeling. (We knew about the medical emergencies involved, and we made sure that we were safe)
It took 2 hours to trek back to Chopta. We left the same day and headed towards Joshimath. Reached just after the sunset and found a nice place to stay. It’s a big town and lots of cheap hotels are available. We invested the next day in Auli, had fun skiing and snowballing. Also, this day was used to prepare for the trek ahead.
We left for the Dhak village, the starting point of our trek, the next morning. The route that we were supposed to take was Dhak - Khullara campsite - Pangarchulla summit - Khullara campsite - Auli. 2 nights at Khullara constituting a total of very hectic yet life-changing 80 hours. The beginning of the trek was hot and dry which was soon replaced by the trees and the snow after a few hours of trekking through the huts of Dhak village. We reached the Khullara campsite in the early evening hours and set up the tent. We were lucky to find a nice shadowed flat region under a huge boulder for putting up our tents because the temp went down to -10degC during the night in the open fields.
The summit trek started the next morning, we made our way through the knee-deep snow and variable gradient slopes to the base of the mountain. After 3 hours of bittersweet torture, we saw the “pangar” i.e. the Boulder region. The whole mountain is made of such majestic huge boulders. The catch was, during the month of December, the snow density is just enough to hide all the holes between those boulders making sure that you do fall into one. So we had to leap over them for the next 3 hours, 2 hours on the two’s and the next one hour on all four’s. We reached the summit late afternoon and I had never been so glad and grateful in my life for doing something so tiring. As usual, we performed our summit tradition and headed back to camp.
Next day was spent in going back to Auli via Tali village and Tali lake (frozen). We tried walking on the lake but thankfully, realized soon enough that it wasn’t a very good decision. Finished our circuit with a good sprint down the slopes of Auli.
