Nanzenji Aqueduct, Nanzenji Temple, Kyoto, Japan
A walk along the Nanzenji Aqueduct at Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto, Japan.
The Aqueduct can often be missed by a lot of visitors, not realising that the red brick bridge found within the grounds of Nanzenji Temple, is actually a canal system built in the 1890's bringing water from Lake Biwa to Kyoto.
You can access the path to the top of the Aqueduct by heading off to the right of the bridge. Definitely a highlight of Nanzenji Temple and one not to be missed. Just try not to fall in!

JAPAN VLOGS - Kyoto Day 2 Ginkakuji Temple, Kiyomizudera Temple, Gion District & Shinkansen to Tokyo
Welcome to this new series of JAPAN VLOGS!!! Join me every Wednesday 5pm for a new Japan vlog. I film every day from our trip in September 2019 showing you Kyoto, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Mount Fuji, Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea. Hope you enjoy!!
It is our second day in Kyoto! We are staying at the Dormy Inn near Kyoto Station so we have breakfast at Deli Cafe at the station. Today we explore Eastern Kyoto. There is lots to do in East Kyoto. We start by getting the bus to the furthest point which is Ginkakuji Temple (aka the Silver Pavilion). We loved the walk up and the view of Kyoto from the top. Then we walk Philosopher's Path. Philosopher's Path is full of beautiful temples. We stop at Honen-in temple, Kounji (Koun-ji) Temple, Eikando (Eikan-do) Temple, Nanzenji (Nanzen-ji) temple, Chion-in Temple (chionin). We stop off at the old Aqueduct (Nanzenji Suirokaku) then walk through Maruyama Park. In Maruyama Park is the Kodaiji (kodai-ji) Temple. Then we walk through the old streets of Kyoto and find Yasaka Pagoda. We go to a Japanese Starbucks, Starbucks in Japan is so cute! Also Hard Rock Cafe Kyoto too. The main temple was Kiyomizudera. It was stunning! (Kiyomizu-dera). We walk home through the Gion District and see Gion Corner. We stumble upon our last temple Kenninji Temple (Kennin-ji) It was lovely. After a long day of temples and exploring we check out of the Dormy Inn and head back to Kyoto Station. At Kyoto station we reserve our seats for our bullet train (shinkansen) to Tokyo! We get off at Shinagawa to then change trains for Shinjuku. We check into our hotel at Shinjuku called Citadines Central Shinjuku. I give a little tour of our room in Shinjuku. I also talk about and reflect on our time at Kyoto. Hope you enjoy!! So many things to do in Kyoto!!!

The approach of Nanzen-ji Temple, and a large brick aqueduct WONDER KYOTO
Do you know Nanzen-ji Temple? You will go with me there now.We fly in the sky and go to Nanzen-ji Temple,Here is the approach of Nanzen-ji Temple.
Nanzenji Temple are located at the base of Kyoto's forested Higashiyama mountains.Nanzenji's central temple grounds are open to the public free of charge, but separate fees apply for entering temple buildings and subtemples. Visitors will first come across Nanzenji's massive Sanmon entrance gate, which extends over the treetops. The gate was constructed in 1628.It is possible to climb up to the gate's balcony, from where the view extends across the city.
If you can not fly, you have how to get there.Nanzenji is a 5-10 minute walk from the nearest subway station, Keage Station on the Tozai Line.We need about 20 minutes and 250 yen to Keage Station from Kyoto Station.Another way, a 5-10 minute walk from the nearest bus stop, Nanzenji-Eikando-michi bus stop.We need 35 minutes, 220 yen from Kyoto Station by Kyoto City Bus number 5.
We change a direction to go ahead through and will walk if I come to here. What will we watch over there?
The visitors will come across a rather odd sight.A large brick aqueduct that passes through the temple grounds. More than 100 years ago, the aqueduct is part of a canal system that was constructed to carry water and goods between Kyoto and Lake Biwa in neighbouring Shiga Prefecture.

This time, we will introduce the Higashiyama Ward,
Kyoto City, and the water channels of Nanzen-in of
Nanzen-ji Temple.
In addition, please enjoy by all means as blue autumn
leaves could be photographed beautifully at the time of
photography.
The canal is located in the grounds of Nanzenji Temple,
and was built in 1890 as a waterway bridge to transport
the lake water of Lake Biwa to Kyoto City.
Its presence and power are impressive enough in a
beautiful brick arch.
It is also used as a place for dramas and animations,
and many tourists have recently taken pictures of social
networks like Instagram.
You can see the Nanzen-in after passing the arch and
you can see the beautiful garden.

The Aqueduct at Nanzen-ji Temple/南禅寺の水路閣
The Biwako aqueduct has been playing a vital role for more than 120 years.琵琶湖疎水は120年以上立派に役目を果たしています。
Nanzen-ji-Saisho-in-Nanzenin!
Nanzenji Temple is the headquarters of the Nanzenji School of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism. The detached palace established by Emperor Kameyama for his mother, Omiyain, was converted into the temple in 1291. In 1334, it became the first in the ranking system of the Kyoto Gozan (five great Zen temples in Kyoto). Later, Shogun Yoshimitsu Ashikaga ranked it the highest, even above the five temples.
The Hojo (main building, National Treasure) comprises Oo (Large)-hojo, (Seiryo-den) and Ko (Small)-hojo. Many of the wall paintings in these halls are designated as Important Cultural Assets. Sho-hojo has a room named Tora-no Ma (Room of Tigers) with Gunko Zu (Picture of Gathered Tigers, Important Cultural Asset), reportedly drawn by Tanyu Kano. The garden in front of Oo-hojo is a representative rock and sand garden reportedly made by Enshu Kobori, the design of which is famous as Tora-no-ko-watashi (a mother tiger trying to let her cubs cross a river).
The huge, Zen-style Sanmon Gate (Important Cultural Asset) was donated by Takatora Todo. From its top, you can enjoy a fine view of Kyoto City. In the southeast of the precinct stands the beautiful Suirokaku; a tall raised waterway made of bricks that is part of the Biwako-sosui canal.
The Garden of Grand Emperor Kameyama:
The Emperor Kameyama, who became a priest at a detached palace in 1289,became the Grand Emperor. He contributed the detached palace, which became a Zen temple. Daimin-kokushi was the first chief priest of it. This place is ruins of the detached palace and also the cradle of the Nanzen-ji Temple. The garden remains traces of its former shadows. This is the typical garden made at the end of the Kamakura Era, where you can walk around the ponds and springs here and there in the background of deep, green forests with profound and quiet elegance. The man who made this garden is said to be the Grand Emperor Kameyama. This garden is specified as one of the three scenic and historic spots in Kyoto City. It is on your left hand that you can see stone constructions of Takiguchi. The upper pond you can see is shaped as a form of a dragon, and is called Sogen-ike Pond, which has Horai-sima Island in the center of it. The down pond has an island whose shape is just like a Japanese letter, meaning heart. According to the records, when the garden was first built, cherry trees were transplanted from Yoshino, reeds from Namba, maple trees from Tatsuta, and even frogs were loosed off from Ide. The Hojo in the Nanzen-in Temple was rebuilt as a contribution from Keisho-in, i.e., the mother of the Shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. The features of it lie at hinoki-zukuri (made of Japanese cypress) and Irimoya-zukuri (one of the typical Japanese carpenter rings) and kokera-buki (Japanese style roofs made of numerous, small tips of Japanese cypress). You can see the wooden statue of the Grand Emperor Kameyama (one of the Japanese treasures) in the center of the Naijin place. The pictures on the Fusumas (sliding doors) are black-and-white paintings by Kanoh Yohboku and hisson Nyokawa Zuisen. At the outskirts of the garden, you will find the Byoh (i.e., a Japanese type of a mausoleum), where the remains of the Grand Emperor Kameyama were buried according to his dying wishes.

Nanzen-ji Temple at 5:20a.m.~8:15a.m.
The huge gate at the entrance of Nanzenji is called San mon,and it was built in 1628 by Todo Takatora in memory of those who died in the civil War Oska Natsu-no-jin.
Nanzen-Ji also called Zuiryusan is one of the most well-known Rinzai Zen temples in Japan. Emperor Kameyama loved this beautiful place so much that in 1264 he built his detached palace here. Later he became a student of the Zen Master Busshin Daimin Kokushi, and he dedicated the palace as a Zen temple in 1291. A characteristic of the history of this temple is that its abbot was always chosen as the best Rinzai Zen Master in each period. As Nanzenji was above the Go-San SyStem, its influence on Japanese culture Was indeed great.
