India
In India in the 1930s, after Gandhi had returned from South Africa, he and his followers adopted a strategy of refusing to cooperate with British rule. Through civil disobedience and boycotts, they successfully loosened their oppressors’ grip on power and set India on the path to freedom.
USA
In the 1960s, Gandhi’s nonviolent weapons were taken up by black college students in Nashville, Tennessee. Disciplined and strictly nonviolent, they successfully desegregated Nashville’s downtown lunch counters in five months, becoming a model for the entire civil rights movement.
South Africa
In 1985, a young South African named Mkhuseli Jack led a movement against the legalized discrimination known as apartheid. Their campaign of nonviolent mass action, and a powerful consumer boycott in the Eastern Cape province, awakened whites to black grievances and fatally weakened business support for apartheid.

La Plata, MO, in Northern Missouri, is located on BNSF Railway's Marceline Subdivision at milepost 312.7, part of their Southern Transcon, the former Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF) mainline between Chicago and Los Angeles.
Amtrak’s Southwest Chief passenger train stops here twice a day; the eastbound train #4 in the morning and the westbound train #3 in the evening.
The typical BNSF freight train volume is between 50 and 70 trains per 24 hours. There are 2 cameras available.
There is an ATCS layout available, as well as a radio feed for the western part of the BNSF Marceline Sub, listening to AAR road channel 30, 160.560 (also includes Norfolk Southern's Kansas City District, on road channel 22, 160.440):

Intactivists Googled Edward Hamilton pediatrician and found he pleaded guilty to health care fraud and was ordered to pay $1.6 million in restitution and damages. He is excluded from participation in all federal health care programs for 20 years.

Family Remembers Fallen Navy Officer - John Dunn
A Tennessee family pays tribute to a man killed while serving his country. 34 year old Alan Patterson was a career Navy-man. He was a father, husband, brother, and son. Dr. Phillip Patterson proudly displays pictures of his six children. His son Alan figures prominently. He was the first of three of his sons to attend a U.S. military academy. Alan knew in the sixth grade he wanted to join the Navy.
He wanted to go to the Naval Academy and he wanted to fly Navy. He had stickers on his school books - Fly Navy, says Dr. Phillip Patterson.
On Monday, Lt. Commander Alan Patterson was the instructor onboard a E/A-6B Prowler aircraft when it crashed during a training mission 50 miles west of Spokane, Washington.
And he loved what he did, and he was always very very proud of what he did, says brother Craig Patterson.
Younger brother Craig says he looked up to Alan. They both attended The Webb School and played lacrosse. Craig even followed in Alan's naval footsteps. The brothers were deployed on the USS Roosevelt together. It's an experience Craig treasures.
No one else in the family gets to have that experience with him. We lived three doors down from each other on the carrier, says Craig Patterson.
Alan Patterson leaves behind a wife and two daughters, ages 13 and 10 months. Alan's older brother says he'll make sure they're taken care of.
I wish I could bring him back, but I'll do whatever I can in my power to make sure that his wife and his daughters are well cared for, says brother Phillip Patterson Jr.
The Pattersons now gather together. They are remembering a man who served his country and loved his family.
It's the glue that kind of holds you together. It would not be easy to be alone, says Dr. Phillip Patterson.
Funeral arrangements for Alan Patterson are not complete, but a service will be held next week at the Naval Air Station on Whidbey Island in Washington state.

In 1990, 275 Tennessee teenagers between 15 and 19 years old died by violent deaths from homicides, suicides, and accidents. More than 14,000 American teens died by violent means the same year. Tennessee ranks 34th nationally in the number of violent teen deaths, with only sixteen states reporting a higher teen violent death rate. This was the information issued recently by the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth in the Kids Count Dissemination Advisory Committee Report.
The Committee reported that Tennessee's violent death rate was 75 deaths per 100,000 teens in the population. The highest number of violent deaths occurred in urban counties, but the highest rate occurred in Lewis County, one of Tennessee's rural counties. This is primarily due to the fact that accidental deaths, and not suicide and homicide, account for most teen deaths. Therefore, the Report explained: An automobile accident involving multiple teens in a sparsely populated county would dramatically inflate the county's teen violent death rate. (The death of the two teens on Christmas Eve in Perry County would have increased the number of deaths in this rural county by two and given it a rate of 645.3, and the highest rate in the state). 160, or 58% of Tennessee teens died in motor vehicle accidents; 40, or 14.5% committed suicide; while 44, or 16% were victims of homicides. Thirty-one teens died from Other Accidents.
