Nashville: The Music City - Traveling Robert
In this video we arrive at the Music City and enjoy its notorious night life. The main drag is called Broadway, and it begins at the Cumberland river and it goes for about a mile to the west. This is the site of all the famous honky tonk bars. There is great live music everywhere. In the morning we explore downtown a little bit passing by the Tennessee State Capitol, the war memorial, the Ryman Auditorium, often called the Mother Church of Country Music. We then enjoy a beer and some wonderful music at the Legends Corner. Our next stop is the Country Music Hall of Fame, and my favorite part, the guided tour of RCA Studio B, where Elvis Presley and many other great luminaries of rock n' roll and country music recorded many hit songs. We end our day in Nashville at the Centennial Park, admiring the only life size replica of the Parthenon in the world.

Government Shutdown Puts New Nashville Brewery on Ice - Eric Alvarez
Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.NASHVILLE, Tenn.--The government shutdown in Washington D.C. is stunting growth business growth, Nashville breweries say.Scott Swygert has a dream called Honky Yonk Brewing Company, which he plans to open in Metro Center in 2014.It's a dream two years in the making that cost the former home builder and the investors who believe in him more than half a million dollars, but now that dream has fallen flat. The government shutdown means neither he nor any other start-up brewery can get approval from the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to sell beer.[When] you're starting a business, there's a million hurdles already, Swygert said. You don't want to find out there's a hurdle because people in Washington can't agree on a budget. While the government shutdown is causing big problems for start-up breweries, those that have been up and running for a while like Yazoo, in downtown Nashville are hoping a small problem doesn't get any bigger.I mean personally, Id like to see it resolved, said Alan Fey, Yazoo tap room manager.Fey says right now business is good, but if Yazoo wants to bottle a new recipe and ship it out of state, it'll have to wait for the shutdown to end.Fey says even under fully functioning system, paperwork for new labels can take months to process and the shutdown is a looming cloud that could cause a downpour any minute. If its something that's even just in the next month or so, still isnt resolved it's going to have pretty serious effects here in Nashville, Fey said. And if the shutdown doesn't end soon, Swygert's half-million dollar dream might fizzle out.I could be stuck brewing test batches and drinking them myself, Swygert said.Swygert says he hopes the government shutdown will end soon so he can have his brewing operation up and running in Metro Center by the end of the year.Follow us on Twitter @wztv_fox17 and LIKE us on Facebook for updates.

The Drums outside the room in Nashville - Waiting on the Bus !
This was taken just has things began to go bad on the trip. See the synopsis below for full details of devastation and destruction ! Shannon Smith (THE MISSISSIPPI KID) did show up when the beer was just about finished ... thanx bro !
Great trip to Nashville - however it was to be a perfect affirmation of the American Music road trip but soon developed a snag or two.
No step for a stepper and always good to work with ELAM McKNIGHT & crew.
The best laid plans they say work ... and these actually did as the show was killer and the recording session for the new record very successful. However in between leaving home and returning to type these words span a deluge of 3 hotel rooms (one booked for the extra night in town when the car's brakes locked up ... two hours before the scheduled session at the Switchyard recording Studio) ... thanx to the Navy Seal team Shannon Smith TOM TOM Calvary for the quick evacuation and prompt delivery at work with no less than a STEAM PACK of more Krystal burgers than I have ever seen !
Spent an extra day in Nashville recovering and planning the escapee route, which called for me to arise (in the cool) at 5:30 and changed the broken brake pads ... only to find out when the store opened @ 9 AM) that the hotel and some other accommodation had put a hold on my bank card and watch it be promptly declined (measly ass $16.99) for new brake pads !!! WTF ??? Not to be detoured any more and wanting to get the hell outta Nashville a day behind schedule I opted to leave the bad brake off the caliper and limp home on 3 other pads and the available cash in my pocket totaling somewhere between 10 - 12 USD ... Hell Indiana Jones would have done the same.
All was good for awhile ... I ain't gonna go into the story . Have a few pix but the jest of it is that this lil rock n roll endeavor rocked the house with the help of; 3 hotel rooms, 1 side directed Water Park (Nashville Shores), drinking the SPRING WATER SUPPER CLUB & LOUNGE completely out of Pabst Blue Ribbon with the help of 20 members of Bob's Motorcycle club (great buncha guys !), 1 borrowed multi ton jack/tools (Thanx Shannon), Gettin' lost and damn near mugged in BLUES TOWN (a local Nashville squatters camp off of Murfeesboro Road), a night sleeping on the floor and constantly defending myself from an determined dog (who lived the night to keep stealing my sheets), one majorly BLOWN front tire which went so hard it threw the car outta of alignment, my families complimentary ride in the back of a friendly ARKANSAS STATE TROOPER'S car to the next town in (it was well over 100 degrees outside), hitch hiking back to the car to install repaired wheel, 3 packs of Wrigleys gum and 10 packs of smokes later another tire blew just outside of Hardy ... 20 miles from home. The vehicle at that point was abandoned and we finished the trip through the quick response of a long tyme friend Kathleen ... after agreeing I would perform keyboards at her wedding on June 17th. Now that's roadside booking aka I deal you can't refuse !
WHEWWW !!!!!
Good to be back home.
...the horses are smiling and the cats are feed, and oh yeah I think I heard cattle lowing a second ago.
So all this but I still dug every minute of it ... as my last words to the band were in Nashville ... tyme ta go home ... this is where the rock n roll really starts !!!
... and oh yeah I just noticed in the mirror his morning that my hair is a different color ?
Hmmmm

Nashville Sit-Ins Helped Pave Way for Today's Leaders - John Dunn
Stream Fox 17 newscasts LIVE starting with Fox 17 This Morning at 5 am and News at 9 pm.Nashville, Tenn. -- Saturday marks the beginning of black history month, and 54 years ago the people of Nashville played a key role in the civil rights movement. It is a role that empowered African Americans then and now.Inside a gymnasium in East Nashville, Lonnell Matthews helps mentor children. I'm really looking for the next generation of leadership in my community, says Lonnell Matthews. His job with the YMCA provides the opportunity. His role as a Metro Councilman earns added respect. Matthews sees potential regardless of skin color. It is something that hasn't always been true in Tennessee. I think there was always that ambition to really break that barrier and say one day this will change, and I think that's where the civil rights movement was really born, says Councilman Matthews. For several weeks in 1960, young adults fought to end segregation at lunch counters in downtown Nashville. The sit-in movement spread across the country, and many went to jail in their effort to make a change. The voice that I have now, it came from those people who did all of the work, and we should be grateful today, says Tennessee State Senator Thelma Harper, (D) Nashville.State Senator Thelma Harper has also broken barriers. The Tennessee Senate has historically been led by white men. Harper was the first African American woman elected. Sen. Harper says there is still room to improve. There are very few African Americans elected in the rural parts of Tennessee. She acknowledges people are not color blind. Sen. Harper believes is starts with children seeing each other as equals. They think just like everybody else, it's just the color of their skin, says Sen. Harper.Councilman Lonnell Matthews also invests in children. We want to make sure that every kid is given a chance to succeed, says Matthews.Matthews is determined to see the civil rights movement carry forward. He hopes to empower future generations to find a voice and make an impact. For news updates follow John Dunn on twitter @WZTVJohnDunnFollow us on Twitter @wztv_fox17 and LIKE us on Facebook for updates.
