Nathula Pass is located at a distance of nearly 53 kms from Gangtok at an altitude of 14,140 ft from sea level. This video was taken on 10 May 2015 at around 12 o’clock. The weather was very good but all of a sudden it changed and started snow fall. We can say weather is very unpredictable here. Tourists are allowed to go close to the indo-china border which is a fence of barbed wires . Tourists are not allowed to take any video or photographs near the border .one can see the snow capped mountains of Eastern Himalayas .adventurous trip with amazing view .With the temperature dipping to nearly 10 degree Celsius and wind speed of nearly 70 kms/hr ,its very difficult to withstand in that wild weather ,Hats off to our Army people.

Additional Information:
Special permits are needed for the Changu Lake, Nathula Pass & Baba Mandir Tour and permits for Nathula are only available for Indian tourists. We had booked it from a tourist agency outside NJP station since we wanted to visit Nathula the following day and go for North Sikkim the day after and forms along with passport size photos for the permits are to be submitted by 12 p.m the day prior to your plan. Since we wouldn't reach Gangtok by 12, we decided to get it done from NJP itself. You can get it done either in NJP or Gangtok. It is best to get the permits and the car from the same agent.

Nathula Pass, Changu Lake, Baba Mandir, Zero point : India - China Border are some of the major tourist destinations of Gangtok as well as of sikkim tourism.Nathula pass is located at an altitude of 14,140 feet. It is about 52 Kms from Gangtok to Nathula pass by road. One can go there via Changu lake and Baba Mandir. On the way to Nathula one can see Changu lake which is one of the main attractions of sikkim. Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir is located 10 min prior of Nathula pass. There are a number of myths about baba Harbhajan Singh in that area. At changu lake one can see an animal with long hair, called Yak. One can ride on it to take photographs.
Nathula is always covered with white snow.one can see snowfall there even in summer. Temperature remains freezing cold. The roads are very dangerous.The road always remains so covered with snow, cloud and frost that it can hardly be seen properly. Landslide is a very often incidents here. I must suggest to all the tourists who visits Gangtok, sikkim, to visit Nathula Pass. It will be your lifetime experience.

Road Trip to Nathula Pass Indo-China Border from Gangtok
Nathula is a mountain pass in the himalayas in the east Sikkim district connecting Indian state of Sikkim with China's Tibet autonomous region. This Nathula pass is at an altitude of 14140 feet above the sea level.
Nathula pass is open only for Indian citizens 5 days a week. Nathula pass is closed on Monday and Tuesday. Indian tourists are allowed to see the Indo-China border and can see the Chinese soldiers on the other side and our Indian soldiers this side.
The best time to visit the Nathula pass is May to October (The temperature is around 10 degree c) Winters experience very heavy snow fall and the temperature dropping tp -25 degrees c. Nathula pass is best to see during winter with snow capped mountains.
The visitors have to get the permit to visit Nathula Pass one day in advance. These can be arranged by your travel agent or hotel persons. Documents required are photo identity proof such as voters id, aadhar etc., and 2 pp size photographs.

Nathula is a mountain pass in the Himalayas in East Sikkim district. It connects the Indian state of Sikkim with China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The pass, at 4,310 m (14,140 ft) above mean sea level, forms a part of an offshoot of the ancient Silk Road. Nathu means listening ears and La means pass in Tibetan.On the Indian side, the pass is 54 km (34 mi) east of Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. Only citizens of India can visit the pass, and then only after obtaining a permit in Gangtok.
Nathu La is one of the three open trading border posts between China and India; the others are Shipkila in Himachal Pradesh and Lipulekh (or Lipulech) at the trisection point of Uttarakhand–India, Nepal and China.[3] Sealed by India after the 1962 Sino-Indian War, Nathu La was re-opened in 2006 following numerous bilateral trade agreements. The opening of the pass shortens the travel distance to important Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the region and was expected to bolster the economy of the region by playing a key role in the growing Sino-Indian trade. However, trade is limited to specific types of goods and to specific days of the week.

Gangtok is the capital city of Indian state Sikkim. Situated at an altitude of 5500 feet, it is a beautiful and well-organized city where you can get all modern facilities like a shopping mall, big departmental stores, movie theatre, restaurants, coffee shops, and many others.
How to Reach Gangtok
By train reach New Jalpaiguri (NJP) station of West Bengal. There are several trains available from all major cities of the country to NJP. By air, reach Bagdogra airport first. From NJP the distance of Gangtok is 125Km and from Bagdogra, the distance is 124 Km. It will take 3 to 4 hours to reach Gangtok from Bagdogra or NJP by car. The rate of a car is between 2500 and 4000 rupees, depending on the number of seats available.
You can also avail a share cab run by Sikkim National Transport (SNT). The fare is INR 200-300 per person. There are also SNT organised bus services available to reach Gangtok from NJP. The rate is INR 90 per person.
Chopper service is also available from Bagdogra to Gangtok. Charge is INR 3500 per person one way.

Captain Baba Harbhajan Singh (30 August 1946 – 4 October 1968) was an Indian army soldier. He is revered as the Hero of Nathula by soldiers of the Indian army, who built a shrine in his honour. He was accorded the status of saint by believers who refer to him as the Baba (saintly father). Many of his faithful - chiefly Indian army personnel posted in and around the Nathu La and the Sino-Indian border between the state of Sikkim and Chinese Tibet - have come to believe his spirit protects every soldier in the inhospitable high-altitude terrain of the Eastern Himalayas. As with most saints, the Baba is believed to grant favours to those who revere and worship him. He is said to be protecting the country even after death.
