Sikorsky HO4S-3 (S-55B) at Aviodrome Museum Lelystad Netherlands
Development of the H-19 was initiated privately by Sikorsky without government sponsorship. The helicopter was initially designed as a testbed for several novel design concepts intended to provide greater load-carrying ability in combination with easy maintenance. Under the leadership of designer Edward F. Katzenberger, a mockup was designed and fabricated in less than one year.
The first customer was the United States Air Force, which ordered five YH-19 aircraft for evaluation; the YH-19's first flight was on 10 November 1949, less than a year after the program start date. This was followed by delivery of the first YH-19 to the U.S. Air Force on 16 April 1950 and delivery of the first HO4S-1 helicopter to the U. S. Navy on 31 August 1950. A U.S. Air Force YH-19 was sent to Korea for service trials in March 1951, where it was joined by a second YH-19 in September 1951. On 27 April 1951, the first HRS-1 was delivered to the U.S. Marine Corps, and on 2 May 1951, the first S-55 was delivered to Westland Aircraft.
1,281 of the helicopters were manufactured by Sikorsky in the United States. An additional 447 were manufactured by licensees of the helicopter including Westland Aircraft, the SNCASE in France and Mitsubishi in Japan.
The helicopter was widely exported, used by many other nations, including Portugal, Greece, Israel, Chile, South Africa, Denmark and Turkey.
In 1954 the Marines tested an idea to enhance lift in hot and high and/or heavily loaded conditions by installing a rocket nozzle at the tip of each rotor blade with the fuel tank located in the center above the rotor blade hub. Enough fuel was provided for seven minutes of operation. Although tests of the system were considered successful, it was never adopted operationally.

Vervoer van het Dakota vliegtuig PH-DDZ door Amsterdam.
De DC-3 uit 1944, onder kenners bekend als de Douglas DC-3/C-47 Dakota PH-DDZ, is via Amsterdam onderweg naar luchtvaartthemapark Aviodrome in Lelystad.
Aan de restauratie van het vliegtuig is twaalf jaar gewerkt, waardoor het toestel uiteindelijk weer kan vliegen. De Dutch Dakota Association (DDA) haalde de DC-3 in 1987 naar Nederland. Aviodrome beschikt al over twee DC-3’s, maar die zijn niet luchtwaardig. Het nu model dat nu over water naar Aviorome gaat is dat wel, al heeft het eerst twee nieuwe motoren nodig om weer te kunnen vliegen.
Aviodrome heeft die motoren onlangs aangeschaft. Ze zullen in Lelystad op het vliegtuig worden gemonteerd. De DC-3 verkeert verder in perfecte staat en kan in de nabije toekomst weer vluchten uitvoeren.

Dutch Aviation in the Early Years (1934)
This movie, made from shots from about 10 other 16mm movies, shows how the aviation started in the Netherlands.
We start with an airtrip above the airpot Schiphol in the beginning of the 30's. On the ground we can see the planes coming over and the marvelous arrival and departure-building from Schiphol, which is completely rebuild in the Dutch museum for Aviation, the Avidodrome on Airport Lelystad.
We see the PH-AFL, a prototype aircraft. with the Dutch name Leeuwerik, which made it's first flight on december 5th, 1930 and crashed on april 6th, 1935 in Brilon, Germany.
Passengers for New York are going to fly with the PH-AFA, Dutch name for it is De Adelaar and aircraft PH-AGA with the Dutch name Rembrandt is taxiing.
Then a big plan from Imperial Airways London with registration G-AAXC is arriving on Schiphol with Prince George from England. His Majesty will fly with a plane from KLM to Copenhagen.
In June 1932, the Graf Zeppelin arrives on Schiphol.
We see a view on the KLM-fleet and the arrival of the Royal Dutch Family on Schiphol.
We go by boat, the Statendam, to New York to visit an airshow and after that to the Dutch East Indies, to be witness of the arrival of the Uiver in Medan.
On board of the Statendam we see the entertainment on board. When arrived in New York we see several street-images from New York in the 30's and yes, it looks like a gangster-movie with all these old cars. On the airshow we see a strange airplane with propellors, maybe the first helicopter ever and we see the Dutch airplane-builder Anthony Fokker, showing his latest creation on the show.
When we arrive in Medan, it is very busy on the airport and preparations are made for the arrival of the Uiver on november 14th, 1934. Everybody is waiting with excitement when the plane is coming. On a billboard there is an announcement that the Uiver has left Singapore and is expected on 16:10 in Medan. A band plays music in the meantime. Finally the Uiver, with registration PH-AJU, arrives and lands on Medan. The crew steps out, K.D. Parmentier as captain, J.J.Mol as First Officer, Bouwe Prins as mechanic and C. van Brugge as the Radio-Operator (Marconist).
The next day the plane is brought out the hanger by hand, is loaded and leaves Medan and this is the end of the movie.
Fokker F27 Friendship flight from Lelystad over Amsterdam, inaugural flight of PH-FHF April 29, 2006
The Fokker F27 Friendship was the most succesful aircraft produced by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer. For that reason the Fokker Heritage Flight (FHF) was keen to preserve and fly one and in 2004 they managed to acquire the very first production aircraft that had started its commercial life with Aer Lingus in 1958.
I was fortunate enough to be on the first flight organized by the FHF on April 29, 2006, which happened to be Queen's Day, our national holiday.
The flight departed Lelystad, on a westerly heading over some colourful flower fields towards the North Sea coast and then over Amsterdam where, at 5:40, festive crowds can be seen on the Museum Square. Then back towards Lelystad for landing.
Unfortunately this aircraft was involved in a minor taxi accident in 2007 which damaged its wing, which proved beyond the financial means of the FHF to repair. The good thing is that this aircraft can still be admired in well-preserved condition at the Aviodrome Air Museum in Lelystad.

Militaire Luchtvaart Museum
Met deze film krijg je een rondleiding door het Militaire Luchtvaart Museum (MLM) op Kamp van Zeist. De film is niet bedoeld om een compleet beeld te geven van de collectie van het Militaire Luchtvaart museum. De meeste beelden zijn in 2013 gemaakt.
Het Militaire Luchtvaart museum werd op 1 juli 1968 door Prins Bernhard geopend op de vliegbasis Soesterberg. Toen heette het nog Luchtmacht Museum. Toen het museum verhuisde naar Kamp van Zeist ging het verder onder de naam Militaire Luchtvaart Museum. Er werden toen ook collecties van de Marine luchtvaartdienst en het de luchtvaartafdeling van het KNIL toegevoegd aan de bestaande collectie van het Militaire Luchtvaart Museum.
