The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) (simplified Chinese: 国家大剧院; traditional Chinese: 國家大劇院; pinyin: Guojia da juyuan; literally: National Grand Theatre), and colloquially described as The Giant Egg (巨蛋), is an arts centre containing an opera house in Beijing, People's Republic of China. The Centre, an ellipsoid dome of titanium and glass surrounded by an artificial lake, seats 5,452 people in three halls and is almost 12,000 m² in size. It was designed by French architect Paul Andreu.
The video was shot during a trip to China by the delegation of the Association of Chinese Traditions and Culture, headed by Master Mu Yuchun to participate in various seminars on wushu, on shuaijiao and organizing cultural exchanges. June 2019.

The National Grand Theatre, located in the centre of Beijing, approximately 500 metres away from Tiananmen Square, is a real island of culture in the centre of a lake. The large grey titanium ellipsoidal dome has a width of between 144 and 213 metres and a height of 46 metres, and is divided into two by a curved glass cover. There are three auditoriums inside the building: one is dedicated to opera, one to concerts and one to theatrical events. There are also several exhibition spaces which are open to the public.
iGuzzini illuminazione worked with Paul Andreu and the lighting designer Kaoru Mende to create artificial lighting in the public spaces and the foyer.

Text description provided by the architects. In Beijing is not all about Olympics. The National Grand Theater, by Paul Andreu is a magnificent and gigantic project finished a few months ago, complementing all the infrastructure been built for the big sports event.
The building is situated in the heart of Beijing on Chang An Avenue next to the Great Hall of the People and about 500 meters from Tian An Men Square and the Forbidden City.
It is a curved building, with a total surface area of 149,500 square meters, that emerges like an island at the center of a lake. The titanium shell is in the shape of a super ellipsoid with a maximum span of 213 meters, a minimum span of 144 meters and a height of 46 meters). It is divided in two by a curved glass covering, 100 meters wide at the base.
During the day, light flows through the glass roof into the building. At night, the movements within can be seen from outside. The building houses three performance auditoriums - a 2,416-seat opera house, a 2,017 seat concert hall and a 1,040 theatre - as well as art and exhibition spaces opened to a wide public and integrated into the city.

Cost: € 300 million.The National Centre For The Performing Arts, which covers 150,000 square meters is located on Chang'an Avenue in Beijing. The Great Hall of the People between the National Grand Theater in Tiananmen Square. The building consists of an opera house (2416 seats), a concert hall (2017 seats) and two theaters (one of 1040 seats) included in a titanium and glass shell which houses the public space . The glass opens the building like a curtain that is taken away, shows that it contains: theaters, walking areas and exposure. The titanium protects and covers, creates shadow areas more secret. The cultural complex is designed as a city of theaters, an island in a transparent artificial body of water surrounded by a new urban park.

It was designed by French architect Paul Andreu. Construction started in December 2001 and the inaugural concert was held in December 2007.
The exterior of the theater is a titanium-accented glass dome that is completely surrounded by a man-made lake. It is said to look like an egg floating on water, or a water drop. It was designed as an iconic feature, something that would be immediately recognizable.
The dome measures 212 meters in east–west direction, 144 meters in north–south direction, and is 46 meters high. The main entrance is at the north side. Guests arrive in the building after walking through a hallway that goes underneath the lake. The titanium shell is broken by a glass curtain in north–south direction that gradually widens from top to bottom.
The location, immediately to the west of Tiananmen Square and the Great Hall of the People, and near the Forbidden City, combined with the theatre's futuristic design, created considerable controversy. Paul Andreu countered that although there is indeed value in ancient traditional Chinese architecture, Beijing must also include modern architecture, as the capital of the country and an international city of great importance. His design, with large open space, water, trees, was specially designed to complement the red walls of ancient buildings and the Great Hall of the People, in order to melt into the surroundings as opposed to standing out against them.
Internally, there are three major performance halls:
1) The Opera Hall is used for operas, ballet, and dances and seats 2,416.
2) The Music Hall is used for concerts and recitals and seats 2,017.
3) The Theatre Hall is used for plays and the Beijing opera. It has 1,040 seats.

2018 China: Beijing - National Centre for the Performing Arts
With the Great Hall of the People to its east, the National Centre for the Performing Arts is located on Chang'an Avenue, Beijing. The NCPA, originally named National Grand Theater, was designed by French architect Paul Andrew. The main building contains three performing venues: the Opera House, the Concert Hall, and the Theater. In addition, the center has underwater corridors, an underground garage, an artificial lake and the green space. It covers an area of about 29 acres (about 12 hectares). The whole project started from December 2001. After more than 5 years' construction, it was finally completed in September, 2007. Now it is believed to be the deepest architecture in Beijing with the deepest point being -106.6 feet (-32.5 meters), equivalent to the height of a 10-floor building. The National Centre for the Performing Arts presents a sharp contrast to its surroundings with its oval exterior, making it very eye-catching.
Symphonies, dance shows, ballets, dramas, operas and other kinds of performances are frequently staged in the National Centre of the Performing Arts.
