National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi
One of the top museums for art to visit when in Delhi is the National Gallery of Modern Art. This is a museum that features an impressive variety of artwork from many centuries. It is a beautiful museum for people to visit when in Delhi.
National Gallery of Modern Art-Mumbai
National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai was opened to the public in 1996. It hosts various exhibitions and art collections of famous artists, sculptors and different civilisations. It is located near Regal Cinema in Colaba.
The idea of a national art gallery to germinate and bear fruit was first mooted in 1949. It was nurtured carefully by Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and Maulana Azad, sensitive bureaucrats like Humayun Kabir and an active art community. Vice-president Dr. S.Radhakrishnan formally inaugurated the NGMA in the presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and artists and art lovers of the city on March 29, 1954. The choice of Jaipur House, one of the premier edifices of Lutyens' Delhi, signified the envisaged high profile of the institution
Designed by Sir Arthur Bloomfield, as a residence for the Maharaja of Jaipur, the butterfly-shaped building with a central dome was built in 1936. It was styled after a concept of the Central Hexagon visualised by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It was Lutyens, along with Herbert Baker, who visualised and gave shape to the new capital in Delhi. Along with buildings designed for other princely potentates like Bikaner and Hyderabad, Jaipur House girded the India Gate circle. The famous architect conceptualised a harmony of facades giving the buildings a distinctive character.

Situated at the end of Rajpath, in the Central Hexagon around the India Gate, the building was a former residential palace of the Maharaja of Jaipur, hence known as Jaipur House. The Central Hexagon around the India Gate, where the buildings of leading princely states, was itself designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.
Though the idea of the National Gallery was floated in 1949, it was formally inaugurated by Vice-president Dr S.Radhakrishnan in 1954, in the presence of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Hermann Goetz (1898–1976), a noted German art historian became its first curator and in time it added new facilities such as Art restoration services, an Art reference Library and a Documentation Centre.
Then in 2009, a new wing of the National Gallery of Modern Art was inaugurated adding almost six times the space to the existing gallery, plus it has a new auditorium, a preview theatre, conservation laboratory, library and academic section as well as a cafeteria and museum shop.

National Gallery of Modern Art in Bengaluru, India History, Reviews, Photos
The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), located at 49, Palace Road in Bengaluru opened to the public about five years ago. The heritage building has a display space of 1551 square meters, while the new gallery block adds up to 1260 square meters. The collection at NGMA includes paintings, sculptures, graphic prints and examples of early photography in India amongst others.Walking inside, you cannot help wishing that the rest of Bengaluru city had been designed and built in a similar manner, effortlessly blending in modern functionality with the elegance of the past. Spread over three and a half acres, the campus is designed around the majestic Manikyavelu Mansion, once the inheritance of Raja Manikayavelu Mudaliar, a royal from Mysore. A much newer building, the gallery block, has been added; contemporary but designed in line with the style and aesthetics of the heritage mansion. It fits in beautifully. And then of course, giving the place a defining character, are its several many trees. Trees which have seen people, history and time go by. You will meet a bunch of Ashokas and a couple of Sandalwoods. You will notice the rain trees, their canopy-like branches protecting the secrets beneath. You will be drawn to the secluded Banyan – meditating in a quiet corner which it claims as its own.The wind will whisper out as you pass through the Silver Oak, the Fern Leaf and the Wavy Leaved Fig Tree. And you may just even partake in a game of I-Spy while you go about spotting the Tamarind, Mango, Woody Apple, Jackfruit and Indian Blackberry trees. It is no surprise then, that we chose this serene place as a venue for Neralu – the Bengaluru Tree Festival! It will be in the spotlight on 7th and 8th February 2015, as it hosts talks, performances, workshops, art installations, tree appreciation walks et al.
