2018 Police Unity Tour
National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Each year, the week in which May 15th falls, is declared National Police Week. In conjunction with National Police Week, the Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial took place on Sunday, May 13, 2018. This year’s ceremony honored 129 federal, state and local law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty in 2017 and a total of 360 American law enforcement heroes. The newly engraved names of officers were read aloud and formally dedicated during the candlelight vigil.
National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC during National Police Week to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate price. The memorial, located at Judiciary Square, honors law enforcement officers from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and federal law enforcement and military police agencies who have died in the line of duty throughout history. Since the first recorded police death in 1791, there have been over 21,000 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Sadly law enforcement fatalities are up 4% from this same time last year. Of the 53 fatalities reported through May 14, 2018, 28 have been firearms-related. In 2017, a total of 44 officers were shot and killed, with the highest percentage involving officers responding to a domestic disturbance or domestic-related incident.
In 1984 the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) was established to tell the stories of American law enforcement officers and honor the fallen. If you would like more information about the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, visit

Washington DC - USA
Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington or D.C., is the capital of the United States of America. Founded after the American Revolution as the seat of government of the newly independent country, Washington was named after George Washington, first President of the United States and Founding Father. Washington is the principal city of the Washington Metropolitan Area, which has a population of 6,131,977. Washington is described as the political Capital of the World, owing to its status as the seat of the United States Federal Government and numerous international institutions, such as the World Bank and International Monetary Fund. Washington is one of the most visited cities in the world, with more than 20 million annual tourists.
The signing of the Residence Act on July 16, 1790, approved the creation of a capital district located along the Potomac River on the country's East Coast. The U.S. Constitution provided for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Congress and the District is therefore not a part of any state. The states of Maryland and Virginia each donated land to form the federal district, which included the pre-existing settlements of Georgetown and Alexandria. Named in honor of President George Washington, the City of Washington was founded in 1791 to serve as the new national capital. In 1846, Congress returned the land originally ceded by Virginia; in 1871, it created a single municipal government for the remaining portion of the District.

Two U-S law enforcement officers were remembered as heroes in the battle against evil in Washington D-C Saturday.
The two men and a third officer were killed by a gunman at District of Columbia police headquarters Tuesday.
The killings have shocked the city, known as the country's murder capital for the past five years.
Separate memorial services were held in the Washington D-C area for Police Sergeant Henry Joseph Daly and F-B-I agent Michael John Miller.
Law enforcement officials from around the country paid their respects to their colleagues.
The mourners included U-S Attorney General Janet Reno and F-B-I director Louis Freeh.
Miller, Daly and F-B-I agent Martha Dixon Martinez were shot to death when a man walked into the H-Q's homicide bureau and opened fire.
Two other people were wounded in the attack.
The gunman, Bennie Lawson, was also killed.
The officers' deaths have touched the hearts of all fellow agents and officers.
SOUNDBITE:
It's certainly a shame anytime an agency loses an officer in the line of duty. It is an impressive crowd here today, and hopefully this will help the family in realising that they do have the support of the police community and the community in general.
SUPER CAPTION: Sergeant Stuart Hall - Richmond Police Department.
The authorities are still investigating how the gunman was able to carry out his attack.
Inadequate security is being blamed for the ease with which Lawson was able to bring a gun into the police headquarters.

28th Annual Candlelight Vigil Honored 252 Fallen Peace Officers
The names of 252 law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty—including 123 who died in 2015—were formally dedicated during the 28th annual Candlelight Vigil, held on the National Mall and produced by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
U.S. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch and Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson delivered poignant remarks. Attorney General Lynch and Concerns of Police Survivors National President Brenda Donner led the lighting of candles. Later in the program Attorney General Lynch commenced the reading of the fallen officers’ names.
In addition to the 123 officers who died in 2015, the names of 129 officers, who died in prior years, were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The national monument now contains the names of 20,789 fallen law enforcement officers—from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, federal, corrections, railroad, and military police agencies—who died in the performance of duty throughout U.S. history, dating back to the first known officer death in 1791.

Why government agencies should move from DC to the Midwest
Midwestern cities need jobs. DC is too crowded. A simple solution.
Subscribe to our channel!
Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and other former industrial powerhouses in the Midwest are struggling. The industries that have supported those cities have gone away, leaving them overbuilt and underpopulated. Meanwhile, coastal cities like New York and Washington, DC are overcrowded and absurdly expensive. So, why not relocate some well-paying federal jobs from the capitol area to the Midwest? Vox's Matt Yglesias explains how such a plan might work.
