THE MCKINLEY MONUMENT IN 4K - CANTON, OHIO
The William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum is the presidential library of 25th U.S. President William McKinley. The library is owned and operated by the Stark County Historical Society, and located in Canton, Ohio, where McKinley built his career as lawyer, prosecuting attorney, congressman, governor and president.
The exhibit contains the largest collection of McKinley artifacts in the world and chronicles the life and career of the 25th President, from his birth to his death at the hands of an assassin. The exhibit also explores the construction of the McKinley National Memorial and the unfortunate fate of the McKinley’s Canton home, destroyed by fire in 1937.
As for the Museum itself it boasts a science center with some wildlife and fossils. The museum has a temporary exhibit space called the Keller gallery. The museum also has an planetarium show. Because of the science center, the museum has a membership plan that lets the member access other museums meeting the same criteria throughout the United States. The museum also houses other artifacts on the surrounding city.

The McKinley Monument, a landmark in the City of Canton, is the final resting place for the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley. Residents of Canton pass by the Monument or run up and down the 108 steps everyday. Traveling on Interstate 77, the Monument towers above the trees. But some may wonder: Why is such a magnificent building in Canton? The answer is quite simple. William McKinley was and is Canton's favorite son. While the President was born in Niles, Ohio, he called Canton home. After his death, it was fitting that the President be laid to rest in the city where his career began, the place where he found his true love and ran for the highest office in the land.
anton, Ohio, is proud to have been home to one of eight Ohio presidents from 1867 to 1923. (The other seven are; William Henry Harrison, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William Howard Taft, and Warren G. Harding) Born in Niles, Ohio, It was from his Canton home that William McKinley built his career as lawyer, prosecuting attorney, congressman, governor and president. William McKinley and his wife, Ida Saxton McKinley of Canton, spent many years of their married lives living in the Saxton family home which now serves as the home of the National First Ladies Library, located at 331 Market Avenue South.

Recorded September 4, 2010. President McKinley is laid to rest within the towering memorial that bears his name in Canton, Ohio. Best known as the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Canton was McKinley's adopted hometown where his spent most of his professional and political careers. Following his assassination in 1901, his body was moved to the public vault of Westlawn Cemetery, the grounds of which lie directly behind the memorial and its surrounding park. Construciton began in 1905 and was completed in 1907 with a public dedication. A total of 108 steps lead up to the large marble monument that contains the crypts of McKinley and his wife Ida. Their adolescent children are interred within the walls, and several plaques detailing McKinley's life and the timeline of the memorial line the monument interior. Canton is about an hour south of Cleveland and an hour east of Fremont, the final resting places of Ohioan presidents Garfield and Hayes respectively.

Step back in time to May of 1901. This is an reenactment of President McKinleys visit to the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco in May 1901. The President is on the right in the dark jacket and the top hat aboard the floating house boat. The local people are welcoming him to San Francisco. The people in costume are called the Hyde Street Living History group. Their website is HydeStreetLivingHistory.org

I take a trip to this relatively close memorial of one of America's greatest president's birthplace. Its quite a sight to see. I recommend taking a trip.
