Hundreds of Ukrainians gathered at Kiev's National Museum of Memorial to Holodomor Victims on Saturday to pay their respects to those who lost their lives during the period of famine across Ukraine in the 1930s.
People laid wheat and lit candles around the 'Bitter Memories of Childhood' statue to commemorate victims.
The Holodomor famine of 1932 and 1933 claimed the lives of an estimated 3.3-7.5 million during the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.
Kiev's museum was established in 2008 and further Holodomor memorials have been set up across the world, including in Chicago and Calgary, to honour the dead.

Holodomor, Part 1 | Virtual Museum Tour
The national museum Memorial to Holodomor Victims. Though it was opened only eight years ago in Ukraine, it immediately became widely known far beyond the borders of Ukraine. The exhibits in the museum may not show the greatest artistic skills or be a high price tag, but their value exceeds the most expensive things in the world. After all, they represent the most precious thing that can be appreciated in the world - human life.

Holodomor, Part 2 | Virtual Museum Tour
The Memorial to Holodomor Victims national museum was opened as a tribute to the memory of millions of Ukrainians killed by Stalin and his henchmen. The halls of this memorial are filled not with world art masterpieces, but with bitterness and pain of the Ukrainian people. At the entrance to the complex, the visitors are met with angels, who guard the souls of innocent murdered Ukrainians. Right after them is the sculpture of a little girl, which simultaneously represents millions of children and reveals a part of the mechanism of the heinous crime of the 1930s orchestrated by Stalin.

The Holodomor Memorial In Kiev
The Holodomor, not a lot of people knows about this event in three parts that took place in Ukraine back in the 1920's 1930's and even after the Great Patriotic War was over, in the 1940's
Basically, the USSR, from orders of Moscow and to subdue the population of Ukraine back then, resisting the changes that the Soviet government brought in upon them in the 20's the population was forced to turn in all their agricultural products retaining almost nothing (therefore the statue of the little girl with a piece of wheat) and starve them while producing food.
For years I passed by this monument and inquired, but seems like no one knew about it, or could not explain to me what it was it about. One day I learned why it is there and, well, I was able to pay my respects to it and the victims with a prayer.

Holodomor Stalin's Secret Atrocity Unedited (A Tribute to the Victims)
*READ DESCRIPTION*
Editing, compiling, and captioning by Gio Fiordaliso, This video was made for my video editing class at Pratt Institute. The assignment was to create a montage of anything, so I decided to create a historical montage with real footage and some scenes from movies to emphasize certain messages. I put two days straight of my heart into this, it's only 10 minutes and that is not enough to talk about all the facts. So I hope this video inspires people to do their own research on their own time.

Ukraine Demands To Recognize Holodomor As Genocide All Around the World
This year marks the 85th anniversary of the Holodomor, which the Soviet Authorities carried out in 1932-1933 in Ukraine. The Holodomor was an artificial famine induced by Stalin's regime. It is considered to be one of the most devastating events of the 20th century. Now Ukraine continues to lobby for international recognition of the Holodomor as genocide.
Stefan Romaniw, the General Secretary of the Ukrainian World Congress and Chair of the International Holodomor Commemoration Committee, has more.
