We went to go look at some cool stuff today, 12/29/2018 we stopped at the Mussée National Boubou Hama (National Museum) we found out it was primarily a zoo. Here’s a short clip of the 2 hippos they have there, 1 is 10 years old and 1 is 16.

Nombreux sont ceux qui ont effectué le déplacement en direction du Musée
National Boubou Hama, dont la création en 1959 a également été soutenue par l'archéologue espagnol Pablo Toucet San Juan, pour réponde à l’appel de l’ONG Al Adun Gargajiya, principale initiatrice du Festival National BEFA qui en est à sa deuxième édition dédiée à la région de Diffa.
Cette cérémonie marquant l’ouverture du projet BEFA était une occasion pour les nigériens de faire une immersion dans la culture du Manga, de découvrir ses subtilités et partager avec l’ensemble des participants étrangers, y compris avec l'Ambassadeur d'Espagne, le secret d’une culture riche et variée, et paradoxalement inconnue du grand public.
Pour la Promotrice du Festival BEFA, Aminata, cela est une réussite car son
festival n’est autre qu’un moyen de rassembler les différentes communautés,
un moyen de consolider les liens de fraternité, de paix et la cohésion sociale.
Ce festival offre pour la jeune génération, surtout qui n’a jamais mis pied dans la région de Diffa de découvrir cette culture, de se découvrir et pouvoir se défendre lorsqu’il s’agit de patrimoine culturel.
L'Ambassadeur d'Espagne remercie les organisateurs de leur invitation à
participer à cette cérémonie si riche en culture et félicite la promotrice du
festival pour sa grande contribution à la diffusion de la richesse culturelle du
Niger.

Niger Artisans: Ɗan Iya
The Hausa faculty of Boston University's African Language Program created the Niger Artisans Project to provide students with a video-based intermediate/advanced Hausa course linked to artisanry in the Republic of Niger. Since 1987 when BU's first group of study abroad students went to Niger, BU students have been linked to the National Museum of Niger in Niamey where many acquired skills in artisanry by serving apprenticeships to some of Niger's most famous artisans. This video course was designed to train students to be conversant in the culture and linguistics of artisanry in the Hausa language. As the project unfolded, the candid conversations with the artists often brought out topics related to modernity, tradition, and a changing economy. The final product is twelve in-depth profiles of Nigerien artisans ranging from silversmiths to fashion designers, each accompanied by transcripts in both Latin and Ajami script. This video features Ɗan Iya, a woven chair vendor near Wadata market in Niamey.
