National Naval Aviation Museum
Pensacola has rightfully been called the Cradle of Naval Aviation. The city's role in the development of the U.S. Navy's air power and the training of thousands of naval pilots and other personnel is undisputed.
This AMAZING treasure in Pensacola is a powerful tribute to the city's century-long support for Naval Aviation. The museum is located inside Pensacola Naval Air Station and it contains an amazing collection of historic aircraft and other artifacts that tell the history of Naval Aviation from its earliest days to the
present time.
The museum is located on one of the most historic pieces of land in the United States, the Pensacola Naval Air Station. One of the
first settlements in America was placed here by the Spanish and fighting took place here during the American Revolution, War of 1812, First Seminole and Civil War.
You will see the Blue Angels practice here- it's usually twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday, so check the schedules. They fly F/A-18 Hornets. The Blue Angels acquired their name around the time of one of the first flights over New York City. The commander noticed the name of the Blue Angel Night Club and thought it a good name for the unnamed troupe of flyboys.
Kids will enjoy a life-sized flight deck replica of the USS Cabot dominates one huge gallery, with vintage W.W.II fighter planes arrayed on deck as well as an airship gondola, Skylab Command Module, a Fat Man atomic bomb replica.
Aircraft we observed were the AH-1 SeaCobra, A-6 Intruder , A6M2 Zero, C-9B Skytrain II, CH-46 Sea Knight, F-14A Tomcat, PBJ-1D Mitchell, P-80 Shooting Star, SB2U Vindicator, RF-4B Phantom II, AV-8C Harrier, F2H-4 Banshee etc etc etc- way too many to list.

Vlog: National Naval Aviation Museum and Fort Barrancas - Pensacola, Florida 20150407
The National Naval Aviation Museum is one of the best aviation museums in the world. Even if you don;t care about history simply wandering among the planes stacked up as if in a giants toy cabinet is amazing.
Fort Barrancas is... yet another brick fort... but if you're on the Naval Air Station anyway its a decent way to spend and hour or so.

Naval Aviation Museum Flightline Tour, Pensacola, Florida
- Took a great tour at the Naval Aviation Museum of the flightline. Lots of historic aircraft, and even two P-3's! I used to fly on EP-3E's in the Navy! Cool! One of the two P-3s is an old NASA plane they used to call the vomit comet - used to train astronauts in zero-gravity by flying to altitude then diving quickly. Lots of WWII era aircraft too, including Mitchell bombers like the kind used to bomb Tokyo four months after Pearl Harbor - the Japanese military had promised the Emperor Japan would never be bombed in the war, this was a huge morale boost to the US military.
