We spent the day at Krka National Park in Skradin, Croatia. It was by far one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen. We ended up going in the early Spring. There were barely any other tourists and the weather was absolutely perfect.

Shades of Blue: Krka National Park, Skradin & Primošten, Croatia
On a day trip from Split, we visited Krka National Park, Skradin & Primošten in Croatia. Near Šibenik, Krka's waterfalls are an extraordinary national treasure. Tricia and I, guided by our friend Damir from Gourmet Croatia, were fortunate enough to see this Croatian gem in the quiet months of early spring, when the waters were high and the tourist numbers were low.
We then had a chance to visit the villages of Skradin and Primošten, which remain largely undiscovered by the tourist handbooks. From the slow food sensation known as Skradin Risotto, to the unique wine varietal of Primošten called Babich, the region surrounding Krka National Park is a destination worth visiting.

KRKA National Park is fantastic. You take a boat and sail into the park, and then at the bottom of all together 9 waterfalls, you can take a swim. It's cold BUT so much fun:) We did the hole loop hike and let me tell you, don't miss the top part with the shallow water, it's like an enchanted forrest:)
For dinner we headed to Sibenik by the coast and had an amazing dinner on a square right across from the cathedral:)

Krka National Park in Croatia | Exploring the Waterfalls!
Krka National Park was way more beautiful than we could have possibly imagined! We spent the day exploring the waterfalls in this beautiful national park in Croatia. While it was definitely pretty crowded during our June visit, the views were spectacular.
We started the day by taking a bus to the nearby town of Skradin. From there, we paid the entry fee (200 kuna per person, or about $30 USD). The entry fee includes ferry boats within the park, so we hopped on a ferry and headed to Skradinski Buk.
Skradinski Buk is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the whole park, and features a multi-tier waterfall that empties into emerald green waters at the bottom. Then, we did the entire hike around the falls.

Skradin is a small town in the Šibenik-Knin County, with a population about 3,986. It is located near the Krka river and at the entrance to the Krka National Park. The main attraction of the park is a series of waterfalls. The biggest waterfall is Skradinski buk, was named after Skradin.

Skradinski buk is considered one of the most beautiful cliff water falls in Europe. The falls can be reached by boat or foot from Skradin. The river Krk is rich with various species of fish. Swimming around the falls is allowed but as you can see: water shoes are strongly advised. Some shots made around Marina, Pag and Pag Island in Croatia.

The Skradinski buk waterfall is one of seven waterfalls in the Krka national park and can be reached from the Lozovac entrance placed in the south of National Park Krka.
The Lozovac entrance has free parking and free bus transfers (from April to October) for individual visitors are available from the entrance to the Skradinski buk.
Nature lovers and fans of hiking can reach the Skradinski buk along a 875 m trail from the Lozovac entrance or from Skradin, along a 4 km trail that is also a bicycle path.

Krka National Park Waterfall Croatia Wasserfall Kroatien
Krka National Park lies within Šibenik-Knin County, and covers a total area of 109 km² of the loveliest sections of the Krka River, and the lower course of the Čikola River.
The national park is a vast and primarily unaltered area of exceptional natural value, including one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. The purpose of the park is primarily to serve science, culture, education and recreation, while tourism activities have also been introduced for its visitors.
Including the submerged part of the river at the mouth, the Krka River is 72.5 km long, making it the 22nd longest river in Croatia. It springs in the foothills of the Dinara mountain range, 2.5 km northeast of Knin. With its seven waterfalls and a total drop in altitude of 242 m, the Krka is a natural and karst phenomenon. The travertine waterfalls of the Krka River are the fundamental phenomenon of this river.
The need to legally protect the Krka River and its exceptional natural values was already recognized in the mid 20th century. The initiative to proclaim the Krka River a national park was again launched in 1971, with the drafting of a physical plan entitled Krka National Park: physical development plan. On 24 January 1985, the Parliament of the Socialist Republic of Croatia proclaimed the area covering 142 km² from the Early Croatian fortresses of Trošenj and Nečven to the Šibenik Bridge, including 3.5 km of the course of the Čikola River, a national park. Due to four urban centres (Skradin, Bilice, Raslina and Zaton), the construction of the Zagreb–Split motorway and the development of tourism and other economic activities in the area, in 1997 the Croatian Parliament revised the park boundaries by passing the Act on Amendments to the Act on the Proclamation of Krka National Park. The southern border of the park was shifted to upstream from the Skradin Bridge, and the northern part virtually all the way to Knin. The park boundaries stretch for 50 km along the upper and middle course of the Krka River (two kilometres downstream from Knin all the way to Skradin), and the lower course of the Čikola River (including the confluence and 3.5 km of the river canyon), in the territory of the towns of Knin, Drniš and Skradin, the City of Šibenik, and the municipalities of Ervenik, Kistanje and Promina.

Looking to visit Croatia this summer? Then I highly recommend seeing the Skradinski buk aka Krka waterfalls at the Krka National Park.
When most people visit Croatia, they fly into the populated cities of Split or Zadar. You can reach Krka National Park from Split or from Zadar in only one hour by car. However, I recommend staying in the city of Šibenik, which is only 15mins away and is located right between the other two populated cities.
Krka waterfalls is a natural site of treasure, the park is known for its series of 7 different waterfalls (although there are more). Skradinski buk is the longest, most popular, and final waterfall of the seven.
Although there are 5 different entrances at Krka waterfalls, Lozovac is the most common way to enter in the south. Once you get there (free parking), you'll take a boat straight to Skradinski buk. This is my favorite waterfall in Krka Croatia, but it's also the most populated in the high season. Luckily, you can swim in the lakes of Krka National Park, unlike Plitvice, its sister park in the north.
After swimming in the Krka waterfalls, I suggest taking a walk on the Skradinski buk trail where you can find small shops, restaurants, and more waterfalls in the area.
The best time to visit Krka waterfalls is from June - November, where you have the best opportunity for warm weather and swimming in the sun!
