Hikkaduwa - Beautiful Places To Visit In Sri Lanka
Hikkaduwa National Park is one of the three marine national parks in Sri Lanka. The national park contains a fringing coral reef of high degree of biodiversity. The area was declared a wildlife sanctuary on May 18, 1979, and then on August 14, 1988, upgraded to a nature reserve with extended land area. The growth of the number of visitors in the next 25 years increased the degradation of the coral reef. To reduce the effects to the ecosystem, the reef was declared a national park on September 19, 2002.

Sri Lanka BABY SEA TURTLES - Hikkaduwa Beach
Today we saw Sri Lanka baby sea turtles hatching and released them into the wild! Another bucket list item checked. Hikkaduwa Beach is famous for it’s wild sea turtles and public turtle hatchery ran by the coast guard right in Southern Sri Lanka. Also known as one of the best beaches in Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa gave us an unforgettable memory that we will never forget. Watch this vlog to find out where to see turtles in Sri Lanka!
We got to Hikkaduwa beach early in the morning and we were sad to learn there were no baby sea turtles being released into the ocean that morning. We then decided to head over to a turtle hatchery north of Hikkaduwa Beach to see if they would release any sea turtles that evening. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any luck there either and the turtle hatchery was quite sad. All of the turtles were confined in smaller tanks and we weren’t sure how humane the whole program was.
A nice local gentleman told us that the local Sri Lankan coast guard would be releasing turtles that night, so we went back to Hikkaduwa Beach to check in with them. They confirmed they would release baby sea turtles that night, but not until 6pm.
With 5 hours to kill, we walked around the beaches in Sri Lanka and enjoyed some of the local shops in Hikkaduwa town. A bit later, we went to turtle beach, also known as turtle point, to feed the huge green turtles that come to feed every night at 5pm. We got so lucky to see 5 giant wild sea turtles and feed them with our own hands! If you’re looking to see turtles in Sri Lanka, this is definitely the spot.
Last but certainly not least, we went to the coast guard to wait for the baby sea turtle release. Our hearts were broken when we heard that there wouldn’t be a turtle release because not enough of the eggs had hatched. Luckily, they saw how sad we were and agreed to do a smaller scale wild sea turtles release! We highly recommend coming to visit the Coast Guard on Hikkaduwa beach instead of visiting a turtle hatchery in Sri Lanka. The coast guard runs a completely free operation and can ensure the turtles are released into the while the second they are ready unlike the hatcheries.
If you are interested in a Sri Lanka beach holiday, Hikkaduwa beach is a great place to start and discover Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Being able to feed and release baby sea turtles into the wild was a once in a lifetime experience! If you have any questions about the best places to visit in Sri Lanka, how to explore Sri Lanka, or any questions about the baby sea turtles please comment down below. We know there is a lack of information online about the turtles in Hikkaduwa beach, so we would love to help! Make sure to subscribe if you are interested in cinematic Sri Lanka travel vlogs. We will see you guys in the next video. Seeya!

Sri Lanka road trip Vlog - Swimming with Turtles at Hikkaduwa and Mirissa
We were on a bike trip in Sri Lanka. Hikkaduwa and Mirissa are beautiful beaches on the south western coast of Sri Lanka. We got a chance to see many turtles swimming upto the beach.
This vlog is all about the moments spent swimming with the turtles and feeding them sea weed.
It was wonderful to see them in their natural habitat. At the end of the video, there is a surprise, so do check it out!

VEGAN SRI LANKA ????Elephant Sanctuary | Unawatuna
Today we're exploring #srilanka !
___
Sri Lanka is a beautiful country. Filled with kind and helpful people, diversity for days, family values that run deep, and a penchant for spice, you’d be hard pressed to find a more well-rounded, friendly nation than Sri Lanka. However, up until fairly recently, it was a far away place I knew next to nothing about.
So, how did I end up visiting this little island paradise?
????How I Ended Up in Sri Lanka
A little back story…
Over six months ago I got an email from a friend of mine, Aurelia D’Andrea, of Vegan Epicure Travel, asking if I wanted to be her co-host for a vegan women’s retreat in Sri Lanka. I was over the moon excited. “Yes!” was my exuberant reply, and the planning began.
Sadly, as most of you know, there were some terrible attacks that happened in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in April of this year… which resulted in a tough decision: the retreat had to be cancelled. Understandably so, people were reticent. (But just to assuage any fears you may have, the U.S. government calls Sri Lanka a “Level Two Travel Advisory,” which says tourists should “exercise caution” but keep in mind that France, Mexico, and the United Kingdom, are also “Level Two Travel Advisory.”)
Anyway, Aurelia and I decided to still meet up in Sri Lanka as planned, retreat or not, and do some location scouting and visiting! Aurelia is an ol’ pro when it comes to Sri Lanka (and travel in general) and she showed Arnold and me the ropes, introduced us to lovely people, and took us on adventures! Aurelia may be one of the most travel-savvy people I know, and we were so lucky to have her insight and ideas for our future travel destination as well.
????Eating Vegan in Sri Lanka #vegansrilanka
Fortunately, not only is Sri Lankan food easily veganized, but also the people are so kind and accommodating that we had no problems getting a good vegan meal. In all of my travels, I’ve found that the telltale sign that you’re going to successfully get vegan food is a willing waiter. (Because, let’s be honest, vegan food is everywhere… just hold the animal products.)
You’ll get a glimpse into the yummy dishes that we had in today’s video below. You’ll notice that we ate traditional Sri Lankan food, but also found more westerns delights like smoothie bowls and other exotic dishes like pad thai.
????Animals in Sri Lanka #elephantsanctuary
One of the wonderful parts of Sri Lanka is the wildlife. We saw a host of animals in their natural habitats, from chipmunks to peacocks, elephants and even a crocodile!
This video is a bit long because we packed in so many adventures. I hope you enjoy. If you do, it always means the world to me when you leave a comment telling me so in the comments below. ????

10 Best Places to Visit in Sri Lanka - Travel Video
Sri Lanka may be a small island in the Indian Ocean but that’s the only thing small about it. The country, formerly known as Ceylon, boasts an ancient civilization, golden sandy beaches with their swaying coconut palms, mountains, and tea plantations. While visiting the island, you’ll see colonial architecture from the days when the Portuguese, Dutch and English ruled. You’ll also see lots of elephants, some of which participate in local festivals and, if you’re lucky, perhaps a leopard or two at a wildlife sanctuary. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in Sri Lanka:
SANO RICH LAGOON VILLA TOUR
SANO-RICH-LAGOON-VILLA, a 4 bedroom villa with a swimming pool facing a lagoon with a beach just 5 minutes away. The villa is located in between 2 famous tourist destinations(Hikkaduwa & Galle) in the southern part of Sri Lanka. The path to the villa is through a wildlife sanctuary and is situated in a peaceful environment surrounded by nature. Please let me know if you could include our villa in your packages. I can be contacted on 0094778670067 or antonfernando84@hotmail.com
The villa is fully secured and has CCTV for security and we also have a caretaker who is always on standby. A cook can be arranged at an extra cost or there are plenty of restaurants in the area.
The following listed activities and any more trips can be arranged upon request :
Private beach with seafood and BBQ restaurant 5 minutes away

Wildlife and Beautiful Beaches in Sri Lanka
Episode 035: Wild Sri Lanka (Wildlife and Beaches)
Welcome to our FINAL Sri Lanka episode!
Minneriya National Park
Visiting Minneriya National Park was one of the highlights of our travels through Sri Lanka. We took an afternoon safari to watch elephants in their natural habitat, and it was an incredible scene! We saw hundreds of elephants emerge right before sunset to drink from and play by the lake. Elephants are such playful creatures, but they can also be dangerous in certain situations.
Monkeys in Central Sri Lanka
We saw so many baby monkeys whilst visiting the Cultural Triangle. These monkeys looked like little alien babies, and they were fascinating to watch. We aren’t usually fans of monkeys (especially since one aggressive monkey stole my coconut in Koh Phi Phi), but these monkeys were cool! They didn’t bother anybody and just did their own thing.
Northern Sri Lanka Beaches
Jaffna is an incredible place to visit in Sri Lanka. Jaffna looks nothing at all the rest of Sri Lanka; even the language on the street signs have changed to angular Tamil from the curvy Sinhalese letters. The people were some of the friendliest we met during our one month in Sri Lanka. They also hassled us the least! Northern Sri Lanka is as wild and unexplored as it gets on this island nation.
Arugam Bay
A surfer’s paradise, Arugam Bay was the most touristy beach destination we visited in Sri Lanka. High season kicked in as monsoon season in the South kept surfers off the waves. If you visit Arugam Bay, definitely make the trip to Pottuvil Point to catch those frothy waves!
Tangalle
Tangalle was the most beautiful beach we visited in Sri Lanka. We loved being there in monsoon season (we only experienced short bouts of rain!), and having the beautiful white sand beaches all to ourselves! Watch our episode to
Weligama
Weligama is another surf town, perfect for beginners or those who want to learn how to ride the waves. We loved using Weligama as our homebase to explore Mirissa - home of the beautiful coconut tree hill. The beaches were busy with tourists enjoying sunset drinks and dinner. Weligama is just a short tuk-tuk ride from Galle, and definitely worth a visit!
Galle
Galle Dutch Fort was our final destination in Sri Lanka, and we absolutely loved wandering the colonial city. Because Galle is just a train ride away from Colombo, Galle is a popular getaway for both Sri Lankans and foreigners. If you visit Galle, we recommend staying at Antic Guesthouse - their service is the BEST we experienced throughout Sri Lanka.
