The Three Royal Cities Of Nepal Travel Guide (Nepal) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kathmandu Valleyin Nepal.
With its three ancient Nepalese royal cities, Kathmandu Valley at the foot of the mighty Himalayas contains some of the most precious treasures in Asia along with a truly unique and mediaeval atmosphere. However, the beauty of this country and its historic buildings have for many years been out of the reach of most foreigners. And even today Nepal is full of mystique. Kathmandu became increasingly important during the reign of the Malla sovereigns who created one of the city’s main landmarks, Durbar Square. The Taleju Temple is located in the heart of the Durbar district. It is believed that in the tenth century King Gunakamadeva The Second founded the town. He moved his residence from PATAN to today´s Kathmandu. However, little of the architecture of that time has survived to the present day. The heart of Durbar Square, the richly decorated and spacious Hanuman Dhoka Palace, dates back much earlier. Not only because of its famous carved peacock windows but also due to its museum, Bhaktapur is the centre of traditional Nepalese wood carving. Compared to other royal cities in Patan and Kathmandu, Bhaktapur is the most original and is without a doubt the most historically authentic. The city owes its remarkable buildings and renovations to comprehensive donations from several countries. Only essential work and modernisation were undertaken and they eventually contributed to an improvement in the daily life of the local population. According to legend the founding of Patan, with a population of over a hundred thousand the second largest royal city in Nepal, dates back to Pre-Christian times. As opposed to the Malla cities of Khatmandu and Bhaktapur that were mainly influenced by the Hindu religion, Patan was for many years a major Buddhist city. It is believed that it was founded in the third century B.C. by the famous Buddhist emperor, Ashoka, who visited the town while on a pilgrimage from Northern India. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patana are the three legendary royal cities of Nepal that still possess a mysterious and ancient power and continue to be the sacred sanctuary of Himalayan art.

Kathmandu Durbar Squares | Visiting Heritage Sites After Surviving Nepal Earthquake | Travel Vlog
This is the story of an Earthquake Survivor. I lived in Nepal for 6 years and on the day when Nepal witnessed the scariest earthquake (25th April, 2015) - I was inside my Apartment on the 14th floor of a high rise building. It shook me to the core or took me more than 2 years to get back to normal me. I recently visited Nepal just with the sole intention to come out of my fear and be courageous again to live in the country as I loved it from the bottom of my heart.
In this vlog, I have visited all the 3 Durbar Squares of Kathmandu Valley. All these three Durbar Squares are also the UNESCO Heritage Sites. Kathmandu valley has three main cities including Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktpur and all the 3 cities have a Durbar Square - a place where the King used to live. Here is a little information about each of these Durbar Squares:
1. Bhaktpur Durbar Square - Bhaktpur lies in the east of Kathmandu city and is famous for its temples and monuments. Bhaktpur Durbar Square is famous for its 55-windows Palace, the actual place where the King used to live. Bhaktpur means the city of devotees and hence you would find many temples surrounding the place. It is also famous for Newari food, handicrafts and JuJu Dahi - a special type of curd which you would get only in Bhaktpur.
2. Patan Durbar Square - This one is in Lalitpur city and is the oldest among all the three Durbar Squares. Patan is also the oldest Buddhist cities in the world. There are also many cool cafes surrounding the place that makes it a perfect for history and food lovers.
3. Kathmandu Durbar Square – This one is also known as Basantpur Durbar Sqaure. There is a famous temple in Basantour called Hanuman Dhoka. You would also get to see the Living Goddess Temple called ‘Kumari Temple’ in this place.
Remember to check out my other vlogs from Kathmandu too :)

Kathmandu to Pokhara Beautiful High Way Road Nepal Tourism
Kathmandu to Pokhara Beautiful High Way Road Nepal Tourism. This visit gives you the greatest opportunity to knowledge the most amazing architectures near in Kathmandu valley as well as the the majority striking natural scenarios.
210 KM west from Kathmandu valley, the Pokhara city is known as the City of Paradise and popular for tourism in Nepal. A complete Nepal destination surrounded by full nature of Himalaya, and with a lake in the middle of the Nepal city, some waterfalls, gorges, etc. Pokhara is also the gateway to many popular adventure trekking routes, like Annapurna Base Camp, Poon Hill Trek and some village hikes. Ideally, regardless if you are beyond the limit of high altitude trek Kathmandu to Pokhara road trip highly recommended.
If you’re someone who loves travelling and experiencing culture you’ve never been before, Pokhara can be a great option for you.
If you decide to travel to Nepal, you’ll find yourself landing in the Kathmandu city because of the residency of the only international airport. If you are travelling from Kathmandu to Pokhara, the Tourist bus ride can quite possibly be the best option for you to travel on especially if your hotel is somewhere near Thamel, Nepal. It’s a known fact that 50 different companies operate the bus trip from Kathmandu to Pokhara road journey and vice versa.
Time is everything when choosing the tourist bus as your choice of transportation. Despite the fact that a number of companies operate the tourism buses, they all depart at the same time. Generally, the bus leaves at 7 am sharp. If you end up missing your bus, chances are you may have to travel by private car or local bus, or even wait until the following day if you still want to take an adventure travel by extreme bus.
You might be confused as to what the general prices of the fares are. There are different fares for different buses. The cost actually depends on the service the bus provides to the tourists. For example, a standard tourist bus costs approximately US$8 – US$12. This won’t provide you with air conditioner facilities only natural air.
Moreover, the deluxe bus costs US$15- US$25, which generally includes lunch, Wi-Fi, real air condition, a bottle of water and maybe some snacks as well.
It’s a long trip. Due to the weird hilly Kathmandu to Pokhara road conditions, it will take more time than you expected which is about 6 to 7 hours. However, the nature, folk view you will see is simply stunning and you’ll get to experience the Kathmandu tourism, road of Nepal, take Nepal images and drive around the mountain area.

Kathmandu Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kathmandu in Nepal.
Located between China and India, Kathmandu is a metropolis in the heart of the kingdom of Nepal, a land of snow-white mountains and home of the gods.It was only a few decades ago that ancient Nepal opened its borders. Until then, due to the command of the ruling Gurkha Dynasty the ‘Home of the Divine’ was totally isolated. In the heart of the city is Durbar Square in which the country’s royalty resided until 1908 and also where the region’s most important festivals take place. The Shiva Parvati Temple dates back to the early years of the Shah Dynasty and its five sectioned, portal-like frame contains inscriptions that are thought to be the oldest in the Nepalese language. The large Jagannath Temple is dedicated to the god, Krishna, and to fend off the prudish Goddess of Lightning sexual images adorn the edge of the roof. Built above an impressive array of steps the mighty Talejk Temple overshadows each of the other temples. The architecture of this ‘mountain temple’ emphasises the unique importance of the goddess Shiva. Kumari Chowk is the residence of the living goddess Kumari. For this role a young girl is duly selected and is disallowed from leaving the palace until puberty, her task being to affirm the king his power. The customs of the people in this ‘Kingdom on the Roof of the World’ may seem strange to those from beyond its borders but this land of both jungle and everlasting snow has developed according to its own rich traditions and beliefs.

Travel video about destination Nepal.
At the foot of the huge peaks of the Himalayas is Pokhara and it is from here that we begin our journey through Nepal. At one time this high valley contained seven fresh water lakes named Pokhari and they gave this holiday paradise its present day name. In the past, Pokhara was an important trading link between India and Tibet but the trading of salt and wool came to an end after Tibet closed its doors to the outside world. Its population is extremely tolerant and both the Buddhist and Hindu faiths coexist side by side.A safari by elephant is a real adventure as the mahuts skilfully lead the ambling giants through the bush. Travelling through the jungle on the back of an elephant offers good protection from rhinoceroses and other predators.Kathmandu is a melting pot of both race and religion, a metropolis in the heart of the Kingdom of Nepal. In the centre of the city is the ancient palace of Hanuman Dhoka. More than seven hundred thousand people live in the metropolis of Earth’s most ancient kingdom. It was only a few decades ago that ancient Nepal opened up its borders. Until then, due to the command of the ruling Gurkha Dynasty, the ‘Home of the Divine’ was totally isolated.Patan is Nepal’s second largest city and has retained much of its original character due to its three hundred monasteries and temples. It is also one of the oldest settlements in Kathmandu Valley and during the 15th century was the capital of one of three kingdoms. Two huge lions guard the entrance of the former royal palace that originated from a monastery complex. Bhaktapur is the third ancient regal city of the thirty kilometre long Kathmandu Valley that has always been a prosperous trading route between China, Tibet and India. Our journey through this fairytale land ends at the foot of the mighty Himalayas amidst a wonderful world in which the gods are still very much alive!

Travel video about destination Kathmandu in Nepal.
Kathmandu is a metropolis in the heart of the kingdom of Nepal, a land of snow-white mountains and home of the gods. For many centuries, this was the centre of Buddhist power and culture and it is here that the largest number of temples is found, dedicated to numerous deities.
In the heart of the city is Durbar Square, in which the country's royalty resided until 1908 and where the most important festivals take place. Jagannath is one of the oldest temples on the square and the original building dates back to 1560, as does the adjacent Taleju Temple.
The Shiva Parvati Temple was built in the early years of the Shah Dynasty. Its five-sectioned portal-like frame features text that is believed to be ancient Nepalese writing.
Kumari Chowk is the residence of the living goddess, Raj Kumari. For this role, a young girl is duly selected and is disallowed from leaving the palace until puberty. Her task is to affirm the king his power.
Over the years, the city has grown so much that Kathmandu is only separated from Patan by the sacred Bagmati River. The majority of the population is Hindu but Buddhists frequently use the Hindu sanctuaries. Here, religious coexistence is a reality.
The customs of the people in this 'Kingdom on the Roof of the World' may seem strange to those from beyond its borders. But this land of both jungle and everlasting snow has developed according to its own rich traditions and beliefs.

Bhaktapur (Nepal) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Bhaktapur in Nepal.
Around fifteen kilometres east of Kathmandu is Bhaktapur, the smallest yet most beautiful of the three Newar cities. The famous and historic palace district features several artistically decorated shrines and temples and each day Durbar Square is full of local people as well as visitors from all over the world. It is believed that the religious heart of the Durbar area was founded in the 15th century. Entry to the sacred temple is restricted to those of the Hindu faith. Over the centuries further buildings were added around the legendary main temple of the royal palace that surrounds Durbar Square. With the construction of the first citadel, in 1453 King Yaksha Malla laid the foundations of a new and important dynasty in Nepal. But the magic of Bhaktapur does not only lie within its architecture but also in its unique mediaeval atmosphere, an atmosphere frozen by time itself.

Through the golden gate of Sundhoka is the old royal palace complex. The Torana above the gate is richly gilded and features the ten-armed goddess, Taleju, and her loyal guards. Located on a 1,400 metre high hill, Swayanbunath is a Buddhist monastery complex and one of the most interesting sights in Nepal. The country’s oldest stupa dates back to the 5th century and is entered from an easterly direction up a staircase that contains three hundred and sixty-five steps. Endless rows of prayer mills and religious images are the instruments of the people’s deep faith. Hidden in a canyon and located on top of a mountain creek, Dakshinkali stands guard over the valley. This wonderful place is dedicated to the bloody goddess, Kali. The customs of the people in the ‘Kingdom On The Roof Of The World’ may seem somewhat strange. But this land of jungle and eternal snow has developed according to its own rich traditions and beliefs. Like magic!

Kathmandu - Valley of the Gods Vacation Travel Video Guide
Kathmandu, the Valley of the Gods - even today the region’s numerous temples, sanctuaries and shrines reflect the deeply held religious belief of the Nepalese people. For many centuries Kathmandu Valley, a fertile plain situated between Tibet and India, was an important junction for various trading and pilgrimage routes. For almost six hundred years the Malla Dynasty influenced the history of Nepal prior to the time when the Gorkha prince, Prithvis Narayan Shah, successfully conquered Kathmandu in 1768 followed by the additional royal cities of Bhaktapur and Patan. According to legend the foundation stone of Patan, formerly Lalitpur, was laid in 233 B.C. by the North Indian king, Ashoka, and his daughter, Carumati. Situated west of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath is one of the country’s most important Buddhist sanctuaries. It is believed that sacred rituals were carried out there in prehistoric times. The oldest inscription discovered dates back to the 5th century and it refers to the founding of a monastery. A few kilometres east of Kathmandu is Pashupatinath the most important and most visited Hindu sanctuary in Nepal that also attracts pilgrims from India. Pashupatinath was first mentioned in 365 A.D. and according to legend King Haridattavarmas had the first Hindu sanctuary built there. It is now a popular pilgrimage destination. On the shores of the Bagmati River are a number of traditional cremation sites known as ‘Ghats’. In the Hindu religion the soul of the deceased can only be released if the corpse is cremated. Cows are also revered as holy thus they are permitted to roam around freely within the temple district of Pashupatinath. A little further upstream and the faithful use the waters of the Bagmati for ritual cleansing. The river therefore functions both as a final resting place for the dead as well as being a place of ritual for the living. Hinduism is the result of a long process of development that continues to the present day. Numerous fascinating temples, sanctuaries and shrines testify to the deep significance of the sincerely-felt religious belief of the people of Nepal in the legendary “Valley Of The Gods”.

athmandu has often been by some as a flawless jewel in a unique setting. No other place in the world has the concentration of culture, art and tradition that exists in the Kathmandu valley (1300m.). Kathmandu is the crossroads for the many ethnic groups of Nepal and for visitors from all over the world every year. Nestled in the central hills of Nepal, Kathmandu is at once medieval and modern. The Kathmandu valley sprawls at the junction of two sacred rivers, Bagmati and Bishnumati. Just cross the Bagmati River to the south is Patan, on ancient city of temples, while Bhadgoon with its thousands of homes and temples shrines lies six miles to the east. More then two hundred years ago these three cities housed the Royal places of three different kingdoms that divided the valley palaces surviving today.

Just cross the Bagmati River to the south is Patan, on ancient city of temples, while Bhadgoon with its thousands of homes and temples shrines lies six miles to the east. More then two hundred years ago these three cities housed the Royal places of three different kingdoms that divided the valley palaces surviving today in Nepal.
They say there are more temples than houses in Kathmandu valley in past. Great temples with heavily carved exteriors, massive white-domed Buddhist stupas and hundreds of smaller Buddhist chaityas small temples with low, ornate archways-and tiny temples containing once lone idol all are an integral pieces of the unique mosaic that is Kathmandu city of Nepal. To really discover the Kathmandu valley you need to begin exploring from well beyond the city limits, and travel in from the outside of Nepal in order to touch its roots. Fortunately there are many very beautiful walks within the Kathmandu valley that combine cultural experience and natural heritage.

Nepal (Nepali: नेपाल [neˈpaːl] (help·info)), officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, is a landlocked country in South Asia and the world's youngest republic. It is bordered to the north by the People's Republic of China, and to the south, east, and west by the Republic of India. With an area of 147,181 square kilometres (56,827 sq mi) and a population of approximately 30 million, Nepal is the world's 93rd largest country by land mass[5] and the 41st most populous country. Kathmandu is the nation's capital and the country's largest metropolitan city.
Nepal is a country of highly diverse and rich geography, culture, and religions. The mountainous north has eight of the world's ten highest mountains, including the highest, Mount Everest. The fertile and humid south is heavily urbanized. By some measures, Hinduism is practiced by a greater majority of people in Nepal than in any other nation.[6] Buddhism, though a minority faith in the country, is linked historically with Nepal as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who as the Buddha Gautama gave birth to the Buddhist tradition. About half of the population live below the international poverty line of US$1.25 a day.[7]
A monarchy throughout most of its history, Nepal was ruled by the Shah dynasty of kings from 1768, when Prithvi Narayan Shah unified its many small kingdoms. However, a decade-long People's Revolution by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) along with several weeks of mass protests by all major political parties of Nepal in 2006, culminated in a peace accord and the ensuing elections for the constituent assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor of the abdication of the last Nepali monarch Gyanendra Shah and the establishment of a federal democratic republic in May 28, 2008.[8] The first President of Nepal, Ram Baran Yadav, was sworn in on 23 July 2008.
A typical Nepalese meal is dal-bhat-tarkari. Dal is a spicy lentil soup, served over bhat (boiled rice), served with tarkari (curried vegetables) together with achar (pickles) or chutni (spicy condiment made from fresh ingredients).. The Newar community, however, has its own unique cuisine. It consists of non-vegetarian as well as vegetarian items served with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Mustard oil is the cooking medium and a host of spices, such as cumin, coriander, black peppers, sesame seeds, turmeric, garlic, ginger, methi (fenugreek), bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon, pepper, chillies, mustard seeds, etc., are used in the cooking. The cuisine served on festivals is generally the best.
The Newar dances can be broadly classified into masked dances and non-masked dances. The most representative of Newari dances is Lakhey dance. Almost all the settlements of Newaris organise Lakhey dance at least once a year, mostly in the Goonlaa month. So, they are called Goonlaa Lakhey. However, the most famous Lakhey dance is the Majipa Lakhey dance; it is performed by the Ranjitkars of Kathmandu and the celeberation continues for the entire week that contains the full moon of Yenlaa month. The Lakhey are considered to be the saviors of children.
Folklore is an integral part of Nepalese society. Traditional stories are rooted in the reality of day-to-day life, tales of love, affection and battles as well as demons and ghosts and thus reflect local lifestyles, cultures and beliefs. Many Nepalese folktales are enacted through the medium of dance and music.
The Nepali year begins in mid-April and is divided into 12 months. Saturday is the official weekly holiday. Main annual holidays include the National Day, celebrated on the birthday of the king (December 28), Prithvi Jayanti (January 11), Martyr's Day (February 18), and a mix of Hindu and Buddhist festivals such as dashain in autumn, and tihar in late autumn. During tihar, the Newar community also celebrates its New Year as per their local calendar Nepal Sambat.
Most houses in rural lowland of Nepal are made up of a tight bamboo framework and walls of a mud and cow-dung mix. These dwellings remain cool in summer and retain warmth in winter. Houses in the hills are usually made of unbaked bricks with thatch or tile roofing. At high elevations construction changes to stone masonry and slate may be used on roofs.
