New Britain Connecticut (CT) Real Estate Tour
Tour New Britain, CT neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices.
New Britain, Connecticut was first settled as a part of Berlin in 1680. It was incorporated as a separate town in 1850 and chartered as a city in 1871. New Britain features moderately hilly terrain that is almost entirely developed. The city's location offers easy access to both I-84 and I-91 by way of Route 72, a divided highway cutting through New Britain's center.
New Britain was once one of the busiest manufacturing centers in the country, boasting the title Hardware City of the World. Most of the old manufacturing plants have since closed, and today the city's largest employers are Stanley Works and New Britain General Hospital. New Britain is home to Central Connecticut State University, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the New Britain Rock Cats - a double-A minor league baseball team - and the Connecticut Wolves, a professional soccer team. Swamp Ghost HD Trailer
On Feb. 23, 1942, a B-17E Flying Fortress bomber crashed in one of the most remote and wild places on Earth: the primitive Agaimbo swamp located on the island of Papua New Guinea. The plane, piloted by young U.S. Army Air Corps Capt. Fred Eaton, had flown a long, dangerous mission from Australia against the Japanese Fortress at Rabaul in New Britain. This was the first long-range Allied bombing mission of World War II following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor that included the U.S. The crew survived their ordeal and, after a six week trek to safety, returned to combat. Their B-17E, however, remained forgotten in the swamp until it was rediscovered in 1972 by an Australian Air Force crew.
In the mid-1980s, the late World War II pilot, restaurant industry pioneer and antique aircraft collector David Tallichet initiated efforts to recover and return the plane to U.S. soil. His dream was fulfilled in 2010 through the joint efforts of his family and aircraft salvage enthusiast Alfred Hagen.
Nicknamed Swamp Ghost, the B-17E has become an icon of military aviation. In tribute to its intact state, romantic isolation and the extreme challenges involved in its salvage, it is known among historians as military aviation's Holy Grail.
Coincidentally, the B-17E was assigned to the Kangaroo Squadron, which flew into Pearl Harbor from San Francisco during the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941. This occurrence contributed to the disaster because U.S. Oahu radar personnel assumed the incoming Japanese attack wave represented the squadron's expected arrival. Swamp Ghost was not with the squadron on that fateful day, but flew in shortly after the attack.
Prior to its salvage, Swamp Ghost was considered the best-preserved unrecovered B-17E in the world. With its return to the Port of Long Beach, Swamp Ghost completed its final mission 68 years after take-off. Only four aircraft models of its type have ever been recovered. The aircraft will be restored, possibly to flying condition, for display at an aviation museum as a symbol of America's military aviation heritage.
4.8.18 - 4.9.18 Pan Am's Plainville Services and More.
Plainville yard has always been a hop skip and a jump from my house, but in all the time I'd spent there I never saw anything moving. Until now. After taking a yearly test at the trolley museum in East Windsor I heard that the road freight PLED would be running that afternoon. I knew the crew would either be on between 1400 and 1500, or around 1800. Unfortunately on this day, it was 1800. But first the crew would run the PL-1 local and serve one industry for a couple hours which kept me occupied. The next day I went north to see the counterpart, once again knowing the crew should hypothetically be OD around 1600. Finally, at 1910 the train pulled out of East Deerfield, and the chase was on!

People around America have problems with their credit scores. Better Qualified team and Steven tries to explain how to avoid this problem. However, this issue can be easily solved. Better Qualified proposes some notes for it. Steve talks about turning factors when it comes to scoring his credit. Payment history is the most important one. 35% of FICO score is based on payment history, so if you pay on time, your score will never be dropped on hundred points. Also, the Amounts Owed, which takes 30% of FICO score is important. Steve says - don't keep max out credit cards. If it happens, try to pay these accounts down. If you pay your accounts down to 20% or lower, then you will see a quick bust in your credit score within the next month. The length of the credit history is also important. Better Qualified team suggests to think twice before closing your old accounts. Your old accounts are usually the most valuable ones. Here is a full list of video credits The City of New Britain has a diverse population, and a rich history. The Finance and Insurance sector has been defined to encompass establishments primarily engaged in financial transactions; that is, transactions involving the creation, liquidation, change in ownership of financial assets; or in facilitating financial transactions. Financial industries are extensive users of electronic means for facilitating the verification of financial balances, authorizing transactions, transferring funds to and from transactors' accounts, notifying banks (or credit card issuers) of the individual transactions, and providing daily summaries. Since these transaction processing activities are integral to the production of finance and insurance services, establishments that principally provide a financial transaction processing service are classified to this sector, rather than to the data processing industry in the Information sector. Industries within Finance and Insurance sector are defined in terms of activities for which a production process can be specified, and many of these activities are not exclusive to a particular type of financial institution. To deal with the varied activities taking place within existing financial institutions, the approach is to split these institutions into components performing specialized services. This requires defining the units engaged in providing those services and developing procedures that allow for their delineation. These units are the equivalents for finance and insurance of the establishments defined for other industries. Your credit score is more complex than just paying your bills on time and staying low on your limits. Sometimes, you might have poor credit simply because you don’t have enough credit. Better Qualified has teamed up with the affiliates below to help you build credit through secured credit cards. Secured credit cards require that you put a down payment as collateral, so that you can build your credit risk free. Better Qualified doesn’t cut corners when it comes to your credit. However it is not the largest category in terms of revenue or number of employees. It is also a slow growing and extremely fragmented industry, with the largest company (Citigroup), only having a 3% US market share. In contrast, the largest home improvement store in the US, Home Depot, has a 30% market share, and the largest coffee house Starbucks has a market share of 32%. East Hampton Connecticut
East Hampton is a town in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 13,352 at the 2000 census. The town center village is listed as a census-designated place (CDP). East Hampton includes the villages of Cobalt, Middle Haddam, and Lake Pocotopaug.
The southern trailhead of the Shenipsit Trail is in Cobalt, and the Airline State Park (a rail trail) has its southern trailhead in East Hampton, at Smith Street. The 884-acre (358 ha) Hurd State Park, Meshomasic State Forest and Salmon River State Forest are located in town. Comstock's Bridge, more commonly known as the Comstock Covered Bridge and the only remaining covered bridge in eastern Connecticut, spans the Salmon River near Route 16 in East Hampton. Local legend says that the bridge is haunted.
The Chatham Historical Society Museum and the Joseph N. Goff House Museum and Cultural Center are located in the town.
East Hampton Connecticut History
The first settlers of the area arrived in 1739 by sea from Eastham, Massachusetts. They traveled up the Connecticut River to Middle Haddam parish between the two adjacent towns of Middletown and Haddam. Led by Isaac Smith, some of these settlers went on to the hills near Lake Pocotopaug, the present-day location of East Hampton. In 1746, the settlers named their community Easthampton parish after their former home of Eastham. In 1767, the community was separated from Middletown incorporated by the Connecticut General Assembly as the township of Chatham, after Chatham, Medway due to the important shipbuilding industries that both places had in common. In the 19th century, East Hampton became the center of the manufacturing of bells, with the first factory being constructed in 1808. During this period, thirty firms were known to have built and run factories producing these bell products, the four most prominent being Bevin Brothers Manufacturing Company, Starr, Hill, and Gong Bell. In 1841, the East Middletown parish, which had been a part of Chatham, separated and became a new township called Conway (later renamed to Portland).
Main Street, about 1907
Chatham was renamed to East Hampton in 1915, which had long been a second name for the township. The name East Hampton, however, is confusing, since the town is, in fact, approximately 30 miles southwest of Hampton, Connecticut. In addition, there is often confusion between East Hampton and the contiguous town of East Haddam, which was named in 1734. The bell companies that dominated the economy of East Hampton continued to flourish until The Great Depression. Today, the only remaining company is Bevin Brothers Manufacturing Company, at a much reduced scale. Many of the brick factories from this remain untouched in the center of the town, due to heavy metal poisoning. Others have been converted into offices, stores, and other small businesses.
Capt. Jesse Hurd was a master ship builder in Middle Haddam after the Revolutionary War until his death in 1839. Interest in ship building in Middle Haddam dwindled thereafter. Captain Hurd was also the owner and creator of the New York Screw Dock Company, a dry dock facility for ship repairs.

As of the 2010 Census, Hartford's population was 124,775,[1] making it Connecticut's third-largest city after the coastal cities of Bridgeport and New Haven. Census Bureau estimates since then have indicated Hartford's subsequent fall to fourth place statewide as a result of sustained population growth in the coastal city of Stamford.
Nicknamed the Insurance Capital of the World, Hartford houses many insurance company headquarters, and insurance remains the region's major industry.[2] Founded in 1637, Hartford is among the oldest cities in the United States. Hartford is home to the nation's oldest public art museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum; the oldest publicly funded park, Bushnell Park; the oldest continuously published newspaper, The Hartford Courant; the second-oldest secondary school, Hartford Public; Trinity College, an elite, private liberal arts college, and the Mark Twain House where the author wrote his most famous works and raised his family, among other historically significant attractions. In 1868, resident Mark Twain wrote, Of all the beautiful towns it has been my fortune to see this is the chief.[3]
Following the American Civil War, Hartford was the richest city in the United States for several decades.[4] Today, Hartford is one of the poorest cities in the nation with 3 out of every 10 families living below the poverty line.[5] In sharp contrast, the Hartford metropolitan area is ranked 32nd of 318 metropolitan areas in total economic production[6] and 7th out of 280 metropolitan statistical areas in per capita income. Highlighting the socio-economic disparity between Hartford and its suburbs, 83% of Hartford's jobs are filled by commuters from neighboring towns who earn over $80,000, while 75% of Hartford residents who commute to work in other towns earn just $40,000.
Economy
Hartford is the historic international center of the insurance industry, with companies such as Aetna, Conning & Company, The Hartford, The Phoenix Companies, UnitedHealthcare and Hartford Steam Boiler based in the city, and companies such as Travelers and Lincoln National Corporation having major operations in the city. The city is also home to the corporate headquarters of U.S. Fire Arms and United Technologies.
From the 19th century until the mid-20th century, Hartford was a major manufacturing city. During the Industrial Revolution into the mid-20th century, the Connecticut River Valley cities produced many major precision manufacturing innovations. Among these was Hartford's pioneer bicycle (and later) automobile maker Pope.[64] As in nearly all former Northern manufacturing cities, many factories have been closed, relocated, or reduced operations.
Aetna and the Hartford Financial Services Group, both Fortune 100 companies, are headquartered in Hartford. Travelers Insurance has its largest national employment center and historical headquarters in the city. CIGNA insurance is headquartered in the region with a presence in Hartford and its suburb Bloomfield. United Health Insurance has a significant presence in the city.[65]
Hartford is a center for medical care, research, and education. Within Hartford itself the city includes Hartford Hospital, The Institute of Living, Connecticut Children's Medical Center, and Saint Francis Hospital & Medical Center (which merged in 1990 with Mount Sinai Hospital).

New Haven is the second largest city in Connecticut and the seat of New Haven County. Situated on Long Island Sound about 75 miles from New York City, New Haven is both a manufacturing and educational center for Connecticut. Neighboring Waterbury is 21 miles from New Havenand situated on the Naugatuck River.
In the spring of 1638, a group of English Puritans led by Theophilus Eaton and the Rev. John Davenport, settled at the head of New Haven Bay. At first it was ruled by a plantation covenant, but in 1639, the settlers decided to become a theocracy and to be ruled entirely by scripture. The Old Green in the center of the city was laid out by the surveyor John Brockett around 1640.
In 1664, New Haven became part of the colony of Connecticut. From 1701 to 1873, New Haven shared the title of capital with Hartford. During the Revolutionary War, New Haven supported the American cause, although there were numerous Loyalists in the city, 75 of whom had their property confiscated. New Haven was invaded by General William Tryon in 1779, but the British were repulsed before they could burn the city.
Yale College, founded in Saybrook, was moved to New Haven in 1717, where it developed into Yale University. Some of Yale's buildings are found around the Old Green, along with three churches that were built in 1814: Trinity, Center, and United. Another landmark is the Ives Memorial Library, the central library of the New Haven Free Public Library, built in 1908. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra is the fourth oldest symphony in America, having given its first performance in 1895.
Edgerton Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Edgewood Park began with sixty acres donated in 1889. Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. designed the layout in 1910.
In 1954, Mayor Richard Lee began his first of eight terms as Mayor of New Haven. Lee hoped to stem the emigration of the middle class, eliminate the slums and revitalize the economy. More than $300 million dollars was spent in public and private construction in renewal areas during Lee's administration.

Yale-New Haven Hospital is the primary hospital associated with Yale University. St. Raphael's Hospital, founded in 1907, also co-operates with Yale's medical school.
However, revitalization of many areas of the city continued after Lee left office in 1969. Wooster Square, which in the 1950's was a slum, is now home to new commercial and industrial buildings and an established historic district. In 1994 The Audubon Arts Center Complex was completed. Revitalization is also occurring in Science Park, the East Shore community, the harborfront, Upper State Street and many other areas.
