Cloudcroft sits at an elevation of 8,668 feet in southern New Mexico's Sacramento Mountains, over 4,300 feet above the Tularosa Basin of the Chihuahuan Desert below. The logging industry surrounding Cloudcroft boomed at the beginning of the 20th Century, as a railroad was built to carry spruce and fir timber down to sawmills in Alamogordo. Favorable newspaper reports, though, quickly made Cloudcroft a popular tourism destination as well, a place to escape the desert heat much like we're doing in this week's new episode of Grand Adventure. We survey the camping, RV and recreational opportunities surrounding Cloudcroft, and also visit nearby White Sands National Monument.
Filmed: September 16-18, 2019

ABOUT US
Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, nearly always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah, and invite you to come along as we travel all around the western U.S. My wife Patricia and I, and our dogs Zoe and Maggie are avid boondockers, so you'll seldom find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds. Instead, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. And unlike most other RV channels on YouTube, we're not RV dealers or full-timers -- we're weekend warriors just like you!
We'll provide tips and insight on equipping and maintaining your RV, trip planning and travel videos to make your next adventure a grand one indeed! So, subscribe to make sure that you catch every episode, and remember...life is nothing but a Grand Adventure!

“Don’t come to New Mexico in March…it’s the worst time of year here!” - A New Mexico resident
⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Click Show More ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
If only we had known this before getting to New Mexico in March, perhaps our expectations would have been less. Neither of us had even been to this state, so we really had no idea what to expect. And although we had some good times, it is not one of our favorite states. (Primarily because we are not used to dry, flat, open spaces with 50+ mph winds) ???? We stayed in two different locations, while in New Mexico. Carlsbad and Las Cruces. Read the full blog post (linked below) for more!

New Mexico by Drone in 4K
We originally hadn't planned on making videos of Santa Fe or New Mexico, but after arriving we realized how beautiful everything was and figured we couldn't leave without making at least one video. We ended up making two.
Featured in this video is footage from around Northern New Mexico, such as both the High Road and the Low Road to Taos, and other areas, such as Tres Piedras. We spent two days in Santa Fe and two additional days driving around New Mexico. We loved our time there!
Please also check out the video we made of Santa Fe:
The equipment used for this was a DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter, a Zenmuse H3-3D Gimbal, and a GoPro Hero4 Black. A more detailed breakdown of all of the equipment we use for these videos can be found on our blog. All editing was done with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, with Photoshop used very occasionally to help with masking for color correction.
The music in this video is titled Runaway Heart by SeaStockAudio, and was licensed through audiojungle.net.

Driving from White Sands National Monument to Alamogordo, New Mexico
Driving from White Sands National Monument which has to Alamogordo New Mexico with an Ion Action Camera mounted on nose cone of my Toyota Prius with a suction cup mount :) It was a very clear and bright day. I am glad the camera remained attached during the video capture process. The gift store has the slides to play on the gypsum dunes. Because of the really white and bright sands, it is strongly suggested to use sunglasses to avoid major disturbance from sunlight.
Here further info from Wikipedia which was retrieved on 8/5/2019
White Sands National Monument is a United States national monument located in the state of New Mexico on Route 70 approximately 54 miles (87 km) northeast of Las Cruces and 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Alamogordo in western Otero County and northeastern Doña Ana County. The monument is situated at an elevation of 4,235 feet (1,291 m) in the mountain-ringed Tularosa Basin and comprises the southern part of a 275 sq mi (710 km2) field of white sand dunes composed of gypsum crystals. The gypsum dune field is the largest of its kind on Earth.[4]
