Kayaking Destinations in New Mexico - Rio Grande Bosque, Albuquerque
The most frequently asked question I receive is Where do you kayak in New Mexico? There are literally hundreds of miles of rivers and thousands of miles of lake shorelines to explore by kayak, right here in New Mexico. Those living in Albuquerque or Santa Fe need not go far to find one of the most scenic destinations around; The Rio Grande Bosque, just North of Albuquerque, NM. Once on the river, the Bosque and nearby Sandia Mountains offer spectacular scenery year around for a truly remote wilderness feeling. Great for kids, novices, seniors and group outings. The Chile Line: Embudo Run
The Chili Line, officially known as the Santa Fe Branch, was a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge branch of the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW). It ran 125.6 miles (202.1 km) from Antonito, Colorado, to Santa Fe, New Mexico, United States. The Denver and Rio Grande Railway (D&RG) began construction of the line in 1880 and completed the line from Antonito to Española, New Mexico, but could not build any further because of an agreement with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad (AT&SF). The Texas, Santa Fe and Northern Railroad was incorporated to complete the line, and the line between Española and Santa Fe opened in 1886 and was transferred to the Denver and Rio Grande shortly thereafter. The D&RGW closed the Chili Line in 1941 because of competition from road transportation, and the line was abandoned shortly thereafter. This section is by Embudo Station and is a private road. I am riding it with permission as I know several land owners at the end of the road. Beyond what I put in the video, the old railroad grade become far more rugged and continues to a series of washouts and burned out trestles. I hope to complete the Comanche Canyon section on my trials bike one day. :D

Ojo Caliente Rafting 2012.mp4
Rafting on the Rio Ojo Caliente, April, 2012. Flow ~400-500 CFS. Aire Puma raft, GoPro camera. Class I-II according to AW, lots of strainers and barb-wire fences making it much more challenging than the rating would suggest. Great fun though, first time I've used the GoPro or posted on Youtube.

The intimate travel diary of an incredible Freeride expedition into the heart of the Karakoram range. The search for one of the most beautiful mountains to ski on the planet, standing at 5880m. An adventure so remote, so high, so committed that no mistakes were allowed. During five weeks, the crew pushed deeper and deeper inside Pakistan, with a 150 km loop in complete autonomy, pulling sleds filled with food, tents and solar panels across gigantic glaciers. As far from home as one can get. A meeting point of Freeriding and Mountaineering. A true adventure.
