NMSU Spring 2017 Commencement Highlights
Over 2,000 students received their degrees from New Mexico State University last weekend. The doctoral hooding ceremony was Friday, May 12, and two commencement ceremonies were held Saturday, May 13 at the Pan American Center. Two individuals received honorary degrees: Kevin Johnson, NMSU alumnus and Starbucks CEO, and Laree Estes Perez, former NMSU Regent.

Kinesiology research at New Mexico State University
Several research projects in the New Mexico State University Department of Kinesiology and Dance are looking at physical activity across the lifespan, from childhood to adulthood. Students are also gaining hands-on research experience by helping faculty with groundbreaking research.
NEWS 22 commercial - Video Production - Final Assignment (NMSU)
This material was made as an assignment for the Video Production course offered at New Mexico State University (NMSU). The video was filmed in Las Cruces, NM, USA, in December.
The images used at the beginning of the video belong to Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds and to Felix Baumgartner's space jump. Regarding the music track, it's the song Time, which belongs to the soundtrack of the movie Inception and which was composed by Hans Zimmer.

Men's Golf Returns to Action at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Monday
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley men’s golf team will be back on the course when they tee it up at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State, on Monday at the New Mexico State Golf Course.
The three-day tournament will be a 54-hole event that will feature 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 holes on Tuesday. There will be a 10:30 a.m. shotgun start on both days.
New Mexico State Golf Course plays 7,242 yards and is a par 71.
The Competition
Along with UTRGV and New Mexico State, other schools competing include Colorado State, Grand Canyon, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Northern Illinois, Odessa College, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, UT Arlington, UTEP, Wichita State and Western New Mexico.
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros competed at the Badger Invitational two weeks ago as they finished in 12th place with a three-round score of 934.
Freshman Andres Gonzalez led the team with a three-round score of 225 to finish tied for 23rd. He posted rounds of 76, 73 and 76.
Sophomore Mariano Romero and freshman Pedro Lamadrid tied for 60th after posting three round scores of 236. Romero posted back-to-back rounds of 77 and 78 to close out the tournament.
Last Year at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate
The Vaqueros finished in 13th place in last year’s Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate after posting a three-round team score of 897.
Ramon Ventura-Camp led the way as he finished tied for 36th with a three-round score 218. He posted rounds of 72, 72 and 74 as he finished two strokes ahead of Nicolas Platret, who recorded rounds of 73, 77 and 70 for a three-round score of 220.
Host, New Mexico State took the team title while New Mexico State’s Brett Walker took the individual championship.
International Flavor
The Vaqueros have 10 student-athletes representing five different countries including the United States, Spain, Mexico, France and Germany. Two of the student-athletes, seniors Ricky Solis and Peter Fox, call the Rio Grande Valley home.
Next Up
The Vaqueros will close out their fall schedule at the Pacific Invitational in Stockton, California on October 30.
