Mongolia Horse Trekking 2019
This is just my phone journal from the last summer horse trekking to the Eight Lakes of Khuis. It was 2019 late June and we had 3 guests from the USA and wanted to have a soft-adventure in the wilderness. The horse trek suppose to be easy riding. We left the Ulaanbaatar early morning and drove for 8 hours and arrived the Shuranga valley. The driving was tough but worth to do. The local nomads are super hospitable people.
We stayed at the Eco ger camp. On the next morning the oriental breakfast was so yummy. Fresh butter cream spread on slice of bread was nothing to compare. We took off around 9 am and our luggage was packed on pack yaks. Our horses were small but strong. After the half day of the trek we got over the Shireet pass and the view was dramatic. We stayed over night in the Mongolian ger and had a Mongolian traditional feast. Everybody sings traditional folk song before drinking the vodka. We also tasted the home distilled yogurt vodka. It was smooth and mild. On the second day we continued our trek and headed back on the third day. Total 2 days of full horse trekking and 1 day Mongolian Nomads’ life style cultural experience was a perfect adventure for the soft adventurers.

Fishing Trip to Mongolia
We flew from Ulaanbaatar via domestic flight and landed in Murun Town at noon. We stayed in the local hotel and took off to the north on the next morning. That was long off-road driving yet we had a beautiful scene. We arrived at our fishing lodge at night and had a late dinner in a cozy place.
We had 4 full fishing days and the first 2 days we got some fish but not the big guy - the Taimen. But on the third day, we were lucky, we caught 2 of them. On the Third day one more, even bigger one. Satisfied. We will be back. Mongolian fishing trip is authentic. In the remote wilderness hanging out with local nomadic families and many more. Mongolia is a paradise for fly fishing.

Is it worth to visit the Genghis Khan Statue near Ulaanbaatar?
The history of Genghis Khan was secret and forbidden to study for centuries in Mongolia due to the Manchu Empire and Soviet Regime. But after the Democracy took a place in the country since 1990 things changed and people became free to study the history of Genghis Khan and ancient Mongolian empires. The statue of Genghis Khan was not just built but built as the biggest equestrian statue in the world. The statue complex will give you a brief history of Mongolian empires and the high ground view from the top of the statue.
