Hear Monaco's Royal Twins' Voices for Very First Time in Video for Grandma on Their 5th Birthday!
Happy birthday, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella of Monaco! Five years ago, the arrival of Monaco’s royal twins — Prince Jacques Honore Rainier, Marquis of Baux and Princess Gabriella Therese Marie, Countess of Carlades — resulted in a national holiday, complete with a cannon salute. Since then, their annual birthday celebrations have become a much anticipated treat. After a jungle-themed excursion for their second birthday, a museum party (with mechanical polar bears!) for their third and a palace firemen visit last year, something a little more special was going to be required to ring in their fifth birthday. Turns out, they saved the simplest and sweetest celebration of all. On Tuesday morning, their mom Princess Charlene shared the twins’ “Birthday Message For Grandma” on Instagram. In the video (intended for Charlene’s mother Lynette Wittstock in South Africa ), Jacques and Gabriella are seen dressed for school, wearing party hats and holding favors, announcing “It’s my birthday!” in English (instead of Monaco’s national language, French). Then, with a little prompting from her mother, Gabriella adds “I miss you. I love you!” Image zoom In the background, dad Prince Albert II — who shot the video — is heard chuckling at his daughter’s enthusiastic performance. The royal twins already shared a spectacular pre-birthday celebration together. They traveled to Dubai last weekend with their mother, and were spotted at Aquaventure Waterpark on Saturday, where the pair — who were taught to swim before they could walk — swam with dolphins at the park’s Dolphin Bay Encounter. Charlene was in the emirate as a sports ambassador to attend an F1 race and an international rugby tournament. Jacques and Gabriella have a great deal of physical activity — the fact that they learned to swim early, both for their safety and for my peace of mind, has probably been a determining factor,” the royal mom said in an interview with French magazine Point de Vue. Charlene opened up about her twins, saying Jacques and Gabriella share an indescribable bond of “incredible affection and gentleness for one another.” The royal siblings are also frequently “exhausting,” according to their mother. Princess Charlene says the pair “talk to each other all the time, and like all children they sometimes can be a little abrupt, a little hard even in their exchanges, but they support each other unconditionally.” They also have “inner strength,” suggests the South African-raised royal, “which allows them able to say what they think and feel, whatever the circumstances” without knocking them off balance. At the end of the 1950s, the car enthusiast Prince Rainier III began collecting old cars. His collection gradually grew over the years as he acquired more and more models, and the garage at the Prince's Palace soon emerged as too small to contain this collection of around a hundred stunning streamlined and sporty cars, from majestic body work to gleaming hoods and regal radiator grills!
In 1993, Prince Rainier III therefore decided to open his precious collection to the public.
The cars were the personal collection of Prince Rainier III of Monaco (1923-2005), and assembled over a thirty-year period. The collection contains almost one hundred classic cars made in Europe and the United States. Notable cars in the collection include the Bugatti Type 35 driven by William Grover-Williams that won the inaugural Monaco Grand Prix in 1929, and Sébastien Loeb's Citroën DS3 WRC, which he drove to victory in the 2013 Monte Carlo Rally. 38 cars from the collection were put up for auction in 2012 due to Prince Albert II's desire to re-organise and expand the collection.
The cars are displayed over five levels in a specially constructed space in the Terrasses de Fontvieille, and the museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm, excluding Christmas Day and New Year's Day
Located on the Terrasses de Fontvieille, the exhibition spans 5000 square meter and is unique in the world, bringing together around a hundred-odd different cars, from a 1903 DE DION BOUTON to the 2013 LOTUS F1 via HISPANO SUIZA, ROLLS ROYCE, LINCOLN, FACEL VEGA, DELAGE, DELAHAYE, PACKARD, HUMBER, NAPIER, FERRARI, MASERATI, LAMBORGHINI, ALFA ROMEO, the LEXUS used for the royal wedding in 2011, and without forgetting the racing cars seen at the Monte Carlo Rally and the Formula 1s from the Monaco Grand Prix.

The principality of Monaco is a tiny city-state on the Mediterranean Sea and surrounded by France. Monaco is the second smallest independent state in the world and is almost entirely urban. Monaco is known for its upscale casinos, yacht-lined harbor and prestigious Grand Prix motor race, which runs through Monaco’s streets once a year. Monte-Carlo, its major district, is home to an elegant belle-époque casino complex and ornate Salle Garnier opera house. It also has many luxe hotels, boutiques, nightclubs and restaurants.
Monte Carlo is not the capital of Monaco but a government district. The country is divided into four areas: Monaco-Ville (the old city), the Condamine (port quarter), Monte-Carlo (business and recreation), and Fontvieille (recreation and light industry). With no natural resources to exploit other than its location and climate, the principality has become a resort for tourists and a tax haven for businesses. Monaco is six times the size of the Vatican and the world's most densely populated independent country.
Monaco is accessed by its land borders from France or Italy by a network of highways, most commonly used of which is the A8 which runs west from Monte Carlo to Nice and Marseille, and east towards the Italian border. Make sure to take into account frequent traffic jams when approaching and leaving Monaco.
Walking is by far the best way to get around Monaco; however, there are some areas, such as the Exotic Gardens, that require a large change in elevation and therefore make for rather strenuous hikes. There are also seven public escalators and elevators (all free) that help negotiate the steep slopes of the city. If you find yourself afoot and wanting to reach the opposite bank of Port Hercule, look for the small pedestrian-only ferry that runs each 20 minutes or so during daylight; it costs only one Euro.
The principality of Monaco offers a great balance of historical and modern attractions. There are various museums and palaces to visit as well as shopping malls and casinos. Monaco also offers relaxation spots along the harbor and even around the attractions. It is relatively easy to navigate Monte Carlo and Monaco if you take the time to learn where the various short cuts are. City maps are generally available at most news vendor stands and shops for a small fee.

Monaco Harbor
Covering less than two square kilometers (half a square mile), this principality is nothing if not picturesque. Playground of the rich and famous, Monaco owes its existence to the elegant Monte Carlo Casino, the principality's primary tourist attraction. The casino was built in 1878 by Charles Garnier, the architect who also designed the Paris Opera. Nowadays the casino's ornate nineteenth-century decor can be savored by anyone at least 21 years old who is willing to don a jacket, show his passport, and pay an admission fee.
The capital of the principality, also called Monaco, sits some 180 meters (585 feet) above sea level on a kilometer-long rock. The Palais Princier (Prince's Palace), located in the medieval-looking Old Town on the Rock of Monaco, may be toured during the summer only. A changing of the guard ceremony takes place outside the palace daily at 11:55 a.m. Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace are both entombed in the nearby Cathedrale de Monaco. The Musee Oceanographique (the Oceanographic Museum and Aquarium), also a scientific research institute long directed by Jacques Cousteau, is well worth a visit. The museum building itself has a classical facade, and the exotic species it contains are interesting. The museum was begun by the current prince's great-grandfather, the scholar-prince Albert I, who was an explorer with a strong interest in marine biology.
The Exhibition of the Prince of Monaco's Private Collection of Classic Cars boasts over one hundred very fancy vehicles. Containing everything from carriages dating back to the 1880s to the vehicle which won the first Grand Prix de Monaco in 1929 to the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud which transported Prince Rainier and Princess Grace on the day of their wedding, this museum will appeal to automobile enthusiasts.
Perhaps the most unique attraction in the principality is the Exotic Garden of Monaco. This cactus garden is accessed by paths which snake down the edge of a steep cliff. In the winter the African crassulas and aloes blossom, while during the spring and summer the cacti are at their best. The Exotic Garden contains over a thousand plants gathered from arid regions the world over, including the American Southwest, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Far East. The garden's panoramic views of Monaco and the French and Italian Riviera are a bonus.
The Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology, established in 1902 by Prince Albert I, was opened in the Exotic Garden in 1955. The museum contains prehistoric remains excavated in Monaco. Nearby is the large natural Observatory Cave. Human and animal remains were discovered in this cave, which was inhabited over 200,000 years ago.
Monaco offers several other museums too. A naval museum contains models of ships. The Musee des Timbres et des Monnaies (Stamp and Coin Museum) displays rare stamps from the prince's collection plus coins, notes and medals dating back to 1640. The rather unusual national museum features the world's most complete collection of mechanical dolls. Most of the 2,000 or so objects in the national museum are from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

From September through November the temperature in Monaco is warm, although afternoon temperatures decrease by November. Visitors should expect daytime rainstorms, especially in October and November. From December through February the weather is mild and wet, with daytime rainstorms, especially in December. From March through May Monaco is mild to warm with occasional rain. From June through August the weather is dry and hot. Although rain is rare in the summer, there can be an occasional rainstorm. In the summer the temperature of the Mediterranean rises to 20 C./68 F. in June, 21 C./70 F. in July, 23 C./73 F. in August, and 21 C./70 F. in September.
Monaco, which makes a lovely day trip from Nice, is 15 minutes from Nice Airport via helicopter or about 30 minutes from downtown Nice by train. To conserve space, Monaco's very modern train station is situated in a tunnel.
Expostion Monacopolis au Nouveau Musée National de Monaco
Cette nouvelle exposition, qui se déploie sur les deux sites du Nouveau Musée National de Monaco - la Villa Sauber et la VIlla Paloma - dresse, au travers de milliers de documents, œuvres, archives, photos, vidéos, plan architecturaux et autres esquisses, un portrait urbanistique de la Principauté de Monaco de 1958 à nos jours. Nathalie Rosticher-Giordano, commissaire de l'exposition et Maki Suzuki, designer, font cohabiter dans cette exposition, le construit, le détruit et le projeté. En marge de cette exposition, un programme de rencontre intitulé Hors-circuit a vu le jour.
