The rain really slowed us down in Munich. We spent all afternoon in the interesting Municipal Museum on Sunday, and went to a lot of churches on Monday, finishing up with a classical concert by the Hochschule Fur Musik.

Pelham Humfrey | Hymn to God the Father | ArchiCantuor
Composer: Pelham Humfrey 1647-1674
Title: Hymn to God the Father: words by Dr John Donne (1572-1631)
3 verses, Wilt Thou forgive that Sin which I Begun: a falling short which I started long a go, how I mislead others into falling short themselves, how I repeatedly fall short myself, yet how I hope to fall short no more and to find a sunlit shore. The score was publshed in Harmonia Sacra of 1688 (edited Henry Playford and Henry Purcell): see at pages 34-35.
Performers: ArchiCantuor Singing for the Architectural Heritage presents classical music in support of historic venues, on this occasion a live performance recording by Chantal Schütz Soprano (Paris) and Jonathan Louth Bass Baritone (London) accompanied by James Akers Lutenist (London): catch Jamie’s website and discography at and see Chantal’s channel at
Festival | Date: Joint study visit of the Cathedral Architects Association of Great Britain with the Dombaumeisterverein e.V, in Munich/München, 29th May 2015
Venue: Sankt Andreaskirche, Zennetistraße, Isarvorstadt, Munich, Germany.
Beneficiary | Purpose: on this occasion the performance is part of a semi-private “recital” context, ArchiCantuor’s recital series in Munich. It celebrated the C21st renovation of St. Andreas (2008-2014) which, in 1953, was the first modern church to be built in Munich after the Second World War. Read the church story at
Commentary | Pelham Humfrey ranks with John Blow and Henry Purcell, whose music styles he strongly influenced, as one of three English Restoration composers from the world of church music who died far too young. Of these three, Humfrey left the smallest legacy of compositions, yet almost ranks as the finest interpreter of meaning through the colour of his compositional harmony. Setting here some poetic words by John Donne [see Humprey colours the many sins that have held the narrator back, on whom God has still to wreak some task of transformation. Wonderfully expressed as anxiety for the hereafter, if the Sun will only shine there as it does here on Earth, God will have done his Work.

Walking in LÜNEBURG / Germany ????????- Tour in Winter - 4K 60fps (UHD)
Lüneburg (Lunenburg in English) is a town some 50km south-east of Hamburg. It was also member Hanseatic League and has the Hansestadt (Hanseatic Town) in its name.
We start this winter walk around Christmas at the train station east of the centre. It takes us a just a few minutes to get to the town across the Ilmenau. There in Old Lüneburg we see the old crane in the river harbor. We make a round this part with some christmas market stalls and apartment houses before we get further into the medieval old town.
There in Lüneburg several Gothic-style buildings can be seen. The market square with the city hall is busy with a christmas market that is just opening up now around noon.
We stroll around the streets, visit St. John's Church and the Am Sande square. Sometimes I had to backtrack a bit as it was my first visit not being sure of ways through. In the end we make it back to the train station where we started.

Stained Glass Windows of St. Mary's Church in Charlestown, Mass.
Stained glass windows are not merely decorative accents in church architecture. Each window tells a story, and demonstrates art as an expression of faith. The breathtaking stained glass windows of Saint Mary's Church in Charlestown, Mass. were produced by Franz Mayer & Company. (Founded in Munich, Germany in 1848.) Mayer made windows for churches throughout the world, including at least nine cathedrals in Ireland. Each window contains hundreds of pieces of genuine, mouth-blown glass. The colors were made by adding different metal oxides to the glass while it was still molten. Because the colors are part of the glass, they never fade; in fact, they are known to mellow with age. The windows on either side of the church depict scenes from the New Testament, all from the point of view of Mary and her role in her Son’s life.
