Clip 7 - Saratoga Battlefield Monument | Stillwater, NY| 4K Ultra HD

The Saratoga National Historical Park, NY, United States.
A quick tour of the Saratoga National Historical Park, Stillwater, NY, United States.
This is an important battlefield site because it was the site of the Battles of Saratoga, the first significant American military victory of the American Revolutionary War in 1777. Basically the hotch potch American militia fought and comprehensively beat the might of the British Army.
I literally had 45 minutes to run around the park before it was closed up so I couldn't really give a good summary of events here in 1777. All I will say is the park is a beautiful location to visit, has plenty of nice views (and walking routes) and a centre with lots of info (which I didn't have time to absorb properly).

Driving the Battlefield in Gettysburg (2018)
Driving the Battlefield in Gettysburg
On July 12, 2018 we visited Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and on one of our stops we drove a section of the battlefield starting at the John Sedgwick monument, making our way around and up through big and little round top, back down to the John Sedgwick moment. This video was a live stream which we shared with our viewers during that trip.
More information about John Sedgwick:
John Sedgwick graduated 24th out of 50 cadets from the West Point Class of 1837 and served in a variety of posts, including the armies of both Taylor and Scott during the Mexican War. In 1855 he became the major of the 1st Cavalry Regiment, whose colonel was Robert E. Lee. Sedgwick took over from Lee as Colonel when Lee resigned his commission.
Sedgwick went on to command a division in the Peninsula, where he was wounded. He was wounded three more times and distinguished for gallantry in the East Woods at Antietam. He briefly commanded the 11th Corps before being given the 6th Corps, and performed well during the Chancellorsville campaign.
At Gettysburg the 6th Corps was the last to arrive on the field after an epic 30 mile night and day march. Although much of the corps remained in reserve during the battle, various portions were committed as needed at scattered points about the field. At one point Sedgwick found himself commanding units on both the extreme right and left flanks of the army.
After Gettysburg Sedgwick continued to distinguish himself and the 6th Corps. He was killed by a sharpshooter at Spottsylvania on May 9, 1864 shortly after announcing that “they couldn’t hit an elephant at this distance.” He is honored by a monument on the Spotsylvania battlefield near the location where he was killed. John Sedgwick was the senior United States officer killed in the Civil War.
A lifelong bachelor, Sedgwick was buried at Cornwall Hollow, Connecticut.

It is not only the heritage of Iraq that is at stake here, it truly is, in the case of Iraq, and perhaps in the case of all other, but certainly in the case of Iraq, it is in fact world heritage. We have been subject to decades of mismanagement and wars, and repeated instances of looting.

In time this great conflict will be over and we feel that we'll be right on the edge of being able to go in and make a difference. Time is of the essence here, as Bonnie Burnham (President of World Monuments Fund) indicated and the good Ambassador, with regard to looting alone, it's incredible, there's been nothing in all the world like the looting of Iraq in only the last three or four years.

STORYLINE:
A Roman aqueduct in Spain, New York City's hotly debated lollipop building and the entire country of Iraq are among the World Monuments Fund's list of 100 most endangered sites announced Tuesday.
Bonnie Burnham and John Stubbs of the New York-based World Monuments Fund said thousands of important sites in Iraq, known as 'the cradle of civilisation', are at risk from war, looting and neglect.
Faisal Amin al-Istrabadi, Iraq's deputy ambassador to the United Nations attended the news conference at the fund's Manhattan offices. It is not only the heritage of Iraq that is at stake here .... It is in fact world heritage said al-Istrabadi.
The organisation's 2006 World Monuments Watch List includes 100 sites in 55 countries. The biennial watch list was begun in 1995 by the fund, a New York-based non-profit organisation dedicated to historic preservation.
By focusing attention on the sites, the fund seeks to raise money for their protection and to spur local governments to protect their cultural heritage.
While this year's list includes antiquities such as the Segovia Aqueduct, a superb piece of Roman engineering, and the ninth-century Haji Piyada Mosque in Afghanistan, there also are nine 20th century sites.
They include Oscar Niemeyer's International Fairground in Tripoli and Richard Neutra's Cyclorama Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, which is facing demolition in 2007.
Edward Durell Stone's building at New York City's Columbus Circle, a Modernist design dismissed by former New York Times architecture critic Ada Louise Huxtable as a die-cut Venetian palazzo on lollipops, is the subject of a fight between preservationists and the Museum of Art and Design, which plans to renovate it and move in.
World Monuments Fund Vice President John Stubbs said the group agrees with preservationists that the dispute should be taken up by the city's Landmarks Preservation Commission.
