NEWARK PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Newark Public Library (NPL) is a public library system in Newark, New Jersey. The library offers numerous programs and events to its diverse population. With eight different locations, the Newark Public Library serves as a Statewide Reference Center. The Newark Public Library is the public library system for the city of Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The historic Newark Public Library traces its beginnings to the Newark Library Association, a private organization that was chartered in 1847. In 1887, the people of Newark approved the founding of a Free Public Library. The Newark 'Free Public Library,' which was the predecessor to the Newark Public Library, opened on West Park Street in the central ward of downtown Newark in 1889 and offered a collection of over 10,000 books which had been acquired from the Newark Library Association. Over time, the influx of more books and an increasing population necessitated the construction of a new building at 5 Washington Street, the current location of the main branch of the Newark Public Library. Currently, the library boasts an enormous collection of both art and literature, art and history exhibits, a variety of programs for all ages, and much more.

The Clark Thread Company Historic District, located at 900 Passaic Avenue, East Newark, Hudson County, New Jersey, United States, is a large mill complex. The company originally started in Newark as an offshoot of the Clark Thread Company of Paisley, Scotland and then expanded into these buildings in 1875. There are 35 buildings on the 13-acre (53,000 m2) block.

Home to the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra , more than 9 million visitors have visited the center since it opened in October 1997 on the site of the former Military Park Hotel.NJPAC has been an important component in revitalization of New Jersey's largest city. Located just west of the Passaic River waterfront, the Center lies in the heart of the city's cultural district around Military Park and Washington Park that also includes the Newark Museum, New Jersey Historical Society, and the Newark Public Library. The Prudential Center is just to the south. NJPAC has one of the largest arts education programs offered by a performing arts center in the nation. When gold fever struck, many souls across the United States traveled to California in search of fortune. This is the story of a group of some thirty men from New Jersey, known as the Newark Overland Company, who came west to find gold. Their journey and the divergent paths their lives took make for a fascinating tale of fortune, scandal and heartbreak. Jersey Gold was co-written with Gwendolyn Joslin Piles.
Margaret C. Bowen was born in Champaign, Illinois. She received a degree in geology from the College of William and Mary but it was her numerous statistics classes that landed her a job on Capitol Hill. Her career included twenty-eight years as an IT Manager with most of it spent in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She retired in 2010 to focus her attention full time to writing and researching Jersey Gold.

Enjoy this walking tour of Jersey City's Newark Avenue. I start from Grove Street in Downtown Jersey City, and make my way to Journal Square. I also walk through Little India / Little Bombay on Newark Avenue from Kennedy Boulevard to Tonnelle Avenue.

Journal Square is a business district, residential area, and transportation hub in Jersey City, New Jersey, which takes its name from the newspaper Jersey Journal whose headquarters were located there from 1911 to 2013. The square itself is at the intersection of Kennedy Boulevard and Bergen Avenue. The broader area extends to and includes Bergen Square, McGinley Square, India Square, the Five Corners and parts of the Marion Section. Becoming Citizens at The New York Public Library
On Wednesday, July 2, days before the nation's birthday, 150 immigrants from 46 countries became United States citizens at the New York Public Library, in front of their friends and family and one of the founding documents of the country. New York Lt. Governor Robert Duffy gave a keynote speech, and Secretary of State Cesar Perales lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Library's copy of the Declaration of Independence was displayed in the center of the room. The Declaration was completed on July 1, but before it was ratified on July 4, several changes were made to the text, including the removal of Jefferson's lengthy condemnation of the slave trade, an excision intended to appease delegates from Georgia and South Carolina. In the days after July 4, a distressed Jefferson wrote out several fair copies of his original text and sent them to five or six friends. The Library's copy is one of the two copies that have survived intact.
