Nikko Rinnoji Taiyuin Temple (輪王寺 大ゆ院) and Mausoleum, Nikko District, Japan
Nikko Rinnoji Taiyuin Temple and Mausoleum is located in the Nikko district of Tochigi prefecture in Japan. This temple is part of the Nikko UNESCO world heritage temples and shrines.
This temple is mostly known as the mausoleum of the third Tokugawa shogun Iemitsu (grandson of the first Tokugawa, Ieyasu). It's architectural technique and style as well as the arrangement of the buildings are virtually the same as those of the original Toshogu Shrine in Nikko. Various gates approaching the main temple hall, are as extravagant as the original Nikko Toshogu shrine.
Hope you get a chance to visit this temple and enjoy it.

Nikko Rinnoji Temple (日光 輪王寺), Nikko, Japan
Rinnoji Temple (日光 輪王寺) is part of the Nikko UNESCO World Heritage temples and shrines and is located in the Nikko district. It is the largest temple in the Nikko area.
This temple belongs to the Tendai Sect of Buddhism and one of the three largest temples for the followers of this sect.
Two main buildings are part of this temple. One is called Sanbutsu-do, which houses three large statues of Buddha, which are wrapped by Gold. Unfortunately we are not allowed to video the insides of these statues. The second is Dai Goma-do, which is used to conduct Goma, which is a Buddhist ritual that involves creating a Holy Fire to pray to Lord Buddha.
There is also a large bronze lantern and a piller located in the temple precincts. The name of the piller is Sorinto Piller. It is built to commemorate world peace.
Enjoy!

Futarasan Chugushi Shrine
I really came to see the lake but there was almost no visibility because it was a cloudy day and up here in the mountains you are actually IN the clouds.
So we went to Futarasan Chugushi Shrine on the lake shore instead.
We found some stairs at the back of the complex and the French man started to climb them despite my I-only-got-3-hours-sleep-last-night-and -am-too-tired protests. That rapscallion climbed anyway so I trudged along behind. It was actually very nice up there. The flora of the forest was very Japanese. We stopped climbing when we reached another small shrine and the path ahead look less trodden, but we think the path goes all the way to the summit where there is another small shrine.

The Gateway to Mt Nantai, is how you could sum-up the Futarasan Chugushi Shrine. More modest that most of Nikko’s temples, the Futarasan Chugushi Shrine is in fact two places in one. The first, Chugushi Shrine, is located on the shores of the Chuzenji-ko with the Futarasan Shrine located on top of Mt Nantai 男体山 (2,486m), both of which were founded in 783 by the priest Shodo Shonin.
Unfortunately closed and inaccessible in winter the Futarasan Shrine will not be covered on this video today. We will make sure to give this place another try at the end of May when the trail opens again to visitors. However, we have to admit that the Chugushi Shrine covered in snow and empty of any kind of visitors gave us the chance to better enjoy the place, like a monk might do, when in total harmony with nature, with time frozen and where the inner beauty of the place can be revealed…
It’s yet another place that most people overlook when visiting Nikko and its surrounding area in winter, away from the crowds of tourists during the summer.

Toshogu is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Initially built in 1617, during the Edo period, while Ieyasu's son Hidetada was shogun, it was enlarged during the time of the third shogun, Iemitsu. Ieyasu is enshrined there, where his remains are also entombed. This shrine is built by Tokugawa retainer Todo Takatora.

Perfect Day Sacred Bridge (神橋 shinkyō) Daiya River Near The Futarasan Shrine Nikko Japan
This beautiful vermilion lacquered structure is known as one of the three most beautiful bridges in Japan and is a perfect gateway for Nikko. The bridge was registered as a World Heritage in December 1999. Shinkyo measures 28 meters long, 7.4 meters wide, and stands 10.6 meters above the Daiya River.
According to legend, a priest named Shōdō and his followers climbed Mt. Nantai in the year 766 to pray for national prosperity. However, they could not cross the fast flowing Daiya River. Shōdō prayed and a 10 foot tall god named Jinja-Daiou appeared with two snakes twisted around his right arm. Jinja-Daiou released the blue and red snakes and they transformed themselves into a rainbow-like bridge covered with sedge, which Shōdō and his followers could use to cross the river. That is why this bridge is sometimes called Yamasugeno-jabashi, which means the Snake Bridge of Sedge.
