Icelandic Phallological Museum - FULL VIDEO TOUR (Reykjavik, Iceland)
Visting the Icelandic Phallological Museum! LOL! Definately an interesting place to visit while in Reykjavík to say the least! The entry fee was around $14 (1700 ISK). Definately worth checking out if you're in the area! The weirdest part was probably the human penis LOL!
Icelandic Phallological Museum / Hið íslenzka reðasafn

Established: 1997
Collection size: 280 penises; 170 cm (67 in)–2 mm (0.08 in)

The Icelandic Phallological Museum is probably the only museum in the world to contain a collection of phallic specimens belonging to all the various types of mammal found in a single country. Phallology is an ancient science which, until recent years, has received very little attention in Iceland, except as a borderline field of study in other academic disciplines such as history, art, psychology, literature and other artistic fields like music and ballet. Now, thanks to The Icelandic Phallological Museum, it is finally possible for individuals to undertake serious study into the field of phallology in an organized, scientific fashion.
The Icelandic Phallological Museum contains a collection of more than two hundred and fifteen penises and penile parts belonging to almost all the land and sea mammals that can be found in Iceland. Visitors to the museum will encounter fifty six specimens belonging to seventeen different kinds of whale, one specimen taken from a rogue polar bear, thirty-six specimens belonging to seven different kinds of seal and walrus, and one hundred and fifteen specimens originating from twenty different kinds of land mammal: all in all, a total of two hundred and nine specimens belonging to forty six different kinds of mammal, including specimens from Homo Sapiens. It should be noted that the museum has also been fortunate enough to receive legally-certified gift tokens for four specimens belonging to Homo Sapiens.

Jakaból - Magnús Ver Magnússon's Gym - VIDEO TOUR (Reykjavik, Iceland)
Jakaból!! Probably one of the best spots to visit while in Reykjavik! Home of the 4 time strongest man: Magnús Ver Magnússon! I was filming his trophy cabinet when we appeared out of a doorway nearby LOL! He let us tour his gym and take pictures and videos! When we left, I bought a T-Shirt! Amazing! Afterwards, I added Jakaból to Google Maps afterwards, so you can see our pictures there! This allows others to see and visit easily too! Ironically, it's underneath an Iceland food store LOL!
As O.D. Wilson once said: I don't know what Magnus ate, but boy! he could sure lift!

Magnús Ver Magnússon (born 22 April 1963) is an Icelandic former powerlifter and strongman competitor. He has won the title of World's Strongest Man four times (1991, 1994, 1995, and 1996).
Magnús competed in his first strongman contest in 1985, finishing third in the Iceland's Strongest Man competition won by Jón Páll Sigmarsson. He decided to focus solely on strongman competition after he won the 1991 World's Strongest Man contest.
His strongman victories include the 1989 Pure Strength contest in Scotland, the 1991 and 1993 International Power Challenge, the 1992 Scandinavian Strongest Man (Finland), the 1992 Nordic Strongest Man (Denmark), the 1994 Europe's Strongest Man, the 1995 World Muscle Power Championship, and the 1995 and 1997 Viking Challenge.
In addition to his four World's Strongest Man titles, he was also runner-up in 1992 and 1993. He has also won the Iceland's strongest man competition many times and the West coast Viking (Vestfjarðavíkingurinn) of Iceland nine times. He is considered to be one of the first modern strongman competitors and is regarded by many to be one of the best strongmen of all time. He carried Jón Páll's formula of being athletic for the dynamic tests of strength and having tremendous static strength to out lift some of the best Powerlifters. He was able to easily out deadlift the favoured O.D Wilson by 40 kg in 1991 and out squatted the world record holder in the squat, Gerrit Badenhorst, in 1995. After Magnus squatted 437.5 kg, Badenhorst commented that he had previously underestimated Magnus' pure strength and that Magnus' squat was the greatest squat he had ever seen from someone of his bodyweight.

Despite its tiny population, Iceland has a reputation in the World's Strongest Man competition that stands higher than perhaps any other country's. This small, black rock in the middle of the ocean has produced a lineage of strongmen dating back to the Vikings.
VICE went out there to investigate why this tiny island produces such strong people. Hanging out at Jakabol—a gym run by ex-champion Magnus Ver Magnusson—we met a whole host of Icelandic strongmen, which includes Hafthor Thor Bjornsson, the 6'9 star of Game of Thrones.

Vopnafjörður, Vopnafjordur, East Iceland
The village of Vopnafjörður is on Kolbeinstanga, with varied opportunities for relaxation and outdoor activities. Many marked walking trails lead through Vopnafjörður's natural pearls. One of them, the elephant, is a rock pillar on the east side of Vopnafjörður.
Two celebrations will be in Vopnafjörður in 2013: Vopnaskak, a family-oriented holiday with many activities, from 4.-7. July, and a cultural celebration, Once upon an August evening, in honor of the brothers Jónas and Jón Múla, held 5.-11. August.
Kaupvangur Cultural Center is worth a visit: visitor information, Kaupvangskaffi, Múlastofa (an exhibit about the life and music of two brothers, Jónas and Jón Múla), and East Iceland Emigration Center providing information about 19th century emigrants. The Kaupvangur is open 10:00 -- 18:00 daily in the summer.
In Hofsárdal is the old farm Bustarfell, one of Iceland's best-kept turf houses whose uniqueness lies in its clear image of farming practices and lifestyle from before 1770 until 1966. The museum is open daily through the summer, 10:00 -- 18:00. Café Croft is next door.
The golf course is nine holes whose layout is determined by its surroundings: steep hillside, diagonal layout and whimsical.
The Selárdal swimming pool, on the banks of the river where it runs through a shallow canyon, is famous for it's lovely surroundings. About 12 km. north of the village, open daily 7:00 -- 23:00.
Vopnafjörður's campground is small and peaceful, in a lovely setting overlooking the village. All basic services are available for vehicles, trailers and tenters.

The bubble hotel for seeing the northern lights in style
(24 Dec 2017) LEAD IN
Iceland's tourism industry is coming up with new and exciting ways to attract thrill seekers to the vast and remote volcanic island on the Arctic Circle.
One of the latest is see-through bubble pods, nestled in woodland, for a unique view of the snowy landscape and Northern Lights.
STORY-LINE
Hidden in a birch and pine wood, nine bubble , inflatable see-through pods.
This elegant if icy looking accommodation offers an intimate encounter with nature, and if you are lucky, a view of the Northern Lights.
The heated pods offer everything you'd expect from a glamping experience including a 360-degree view of nature, all from the warmth of a cozy bed.
The bubbles do not have running water, and bathrooms are located in a communal room nearby. But those who do make it out here can lounge in cosy comfort, gazing at the stars.
The land here is owned by beef farmer Sigridur Sigurfinnsdottir.
It's so peaceful here, she says. I think there are very many people talking about how nice it is to come, they are coming from big cities and there is so much peace.
Sigurfinnsdottir explains the pods are the brainchild of a local businessman, who many years ago worked on her farm during harvest time.
So, in the beginning there was a young man working here at our farm, he was (here for) 15-years and he was from the community, very close. He was working driving tractors in the fields, just here, and we couldn't imagine this would happen in a few years. This was a field, we started to plant trees 28 years ago, and two years ago he came back to ask 'do you want to be a part of this adventure? To try to put one bubble. We weren't thinking about nine bubbles at that time, not at all. But to start, to try and this is how it is now.
The bubble pods are located within easy reach of some of the main attentions within Iceland's Golden Triangle, including the famous geyser with its frequent eruptions.
As the night sets in, eight intrepid couples arrive to occupy their pods, including Amanda Amberg from Montana:
We saw one day on Pinterest this Buubble and we decided that one day we were going to come and we decide that now was the perfect time come chasing the northern lights, she says.
A local developer plans to expand the concept from the nine pods today on one site, to various sites across all the south coast, so that no matter where you wish to travel to, a bubble will always be available.
There is no limit to it, says Elias Gislason from the Icelandic Tourist Board:. The limit is the ingenuity of the individuals who are coming into the industry.
However, the pods are not cheap - a one night stay will set you back around 250 US dollars, whilst the full Golden Circle tour with a night in a bubble will cost just under 600 dollars.
The price doesn't seem to put people off - all the pods are fully booked until the until the end of this year.

Iceland closes gender gap but violence against women remains
(12 Dec 2017) It's early morning in this upper secondary school on the outskirts of Iceland's capital, Reykjavik.
Students here are attending a pioneering course on gender studies, discussing gender-based discrimination, from stereotypical gender representations in media all the way to sexual violence.
The aim is to (…) get them to realise where the discrimination is, how to react on it, it's also to empower them to take action against the harmful messages that they're getting, said teacher Hanna Bjorg Vilhjalmsdottir who created the course ten years ago.
She was met with skepticism when she first suggested it but now a version of the course is available in 27 out of the 33 high schools in Iceland.
18-year-old Tinna Karen Victorsdottir said the discussions held in this course have filtered into her daily life.
Every class I go home and I have something new to bring to my parents, she said.
Over the past weeks, she said, her parents have changed their behaviour, with her father taking on new household chores.
Despite Iceland often being presented as at the forefront of gender equality and women's rights, the outpouring of grievances on sexual misconduct prompted by the #MeToo campaign have been a stark realization for the people of Iceland: equal representation does not, by default, lead to less gender-based violence.
Late November, Icelanders gathered in the capital to protest against sexual misconduct - sharing stories of abuse and harassment.
Iceland may have a female prime minister and some of the world's strongest laws on workplace equality and equal pay but it also has one of Europe's highest per-capita levels of reported rapes, according to statistics agency Eurostat, although legal definitions differ from country to country, complicating comparisons.
A 2010 University of Iceland study found that 30 percent of Icelandic women aged 18 to 80 have been physically attacked by a male at least once, of which 13 percent experienced rape or attempted rape.
Fighting sexual harassment, feminist groups have been active in working with nightclubs and bars to raise awareness of abuse and offer solutions.
Posters and stickers have been put up in several establishments across the capital to urge victims to seek help from members of the staff.
We just realised that a lot of these things are happening when people are partying. So if we can both remind people not to harass and people that have been harassed that they did nothing wrong, and that they should talk to bar staff, said Helga Lind Mar, an organiser of the annual 'slut walk.'
For Gyda Margret Petursdottir, a scholar in Gender Studies, the myth of Iceland as a paradise for women needs to be dismantled.
Iceland is not a safe haven for women, she said. When you have a gender-based violence in such great proportion you can not look at a country as a safe haven.
Over the past weeks, hundreds of women in politics, entertainment and academia have signed a pledge against sexual harassment and urged male colleagues to change their behaviour.
Andres Ingi Jonsson hopes to answer that call.
The MP has created a small group of male parliamentarians to actively discuss the plight of sexual harassment in parliament.
There are stories about ministers ogling female politicians' behinds when the members are going onto the podium to deliver speeches, he said.
So this is happening here as well, and that's something we have to address.
Iceland may be far from perfect, but its politicians have taken gender equality seriously.
For nine years in a row, the World Economic Forum has ranked Iceland as having the world's smallest gender-equality gap.
But she believes that society needs the courage to speak up every day about the injustices.
