Kimono Fashion Show - Nishijin Textile Center, Kyoto, Japan!
We accidentally found this place when we were looking up authentic kimono to buy. The Nishijin Textile Center is located in the Nishijin District, which is best known for it’s old architecture and weaving factories. We happened to stop by just in time for a free 10-minute Kimono Fashion show. It was so interesting to see the different colors and patterns of each kimono modeled by lovely models. In 2nd floor, you can witness the process of making Nishijin textile first-hand. You can see close and in detail drawing, painting, embroidering, and creating beautiful obi and kimonos. You can buy second-hand kimonos and obi and many other souvenir items. You can also able to try on a beautiful kimono, take pictures and even rent it for the whole day for affordable prices.
Kimono Fashion Shows are held 7 times a day for free.

Nishijin is located in the north-west part of central Kyoto.
It is one of the most traditional weaving industry district.
Nishijin textile (Nishijin-ori) is used for Japanese Kimono.
In Nishijin district, a lot of machiya (old Kyoto townhouses) remains. You can feel Old Kyoto atmosphere.

Kimono Fashion Show at Nishijin Textile Center in Kyoto, Japan 1/4/13
Nishijin Textile Center is a great place to see and purchase Japanese textiles and other gifts. There are multiple sections with live demonstrations that are very interesting and give viewers a glimpse into how different items are made. My favorite aspect of the center is their free kimono fashion show, which you can watch here! More information can be found on their website:
Thanks for watching!
