In 1990, Nissan North America Inc. Nissan North America has announced a $170 million investment in its Smyrna, Tennessee and Canton, Mississippi assembly plants to support production of the 2019 Altima. The announcement came as the company celebrated the start of production of the sixth-generation sedan at its Smyrna facility. With this investment, Nissan has invested nearly $12 billion across its U.S. manufacturing footprint.

Nissan's investment was used to upgrade Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant and Canton Vehicle Assembly Plant with the latest manufacturing technology. Upgrades included:
State-of-the-art laser brazing system in the body shop that gives the flexibility to weld the vehicles' sleek trunk lid.
Updated paint shop with a new polyurethane stone guard coat paint system that provides a more durable, best-in-class exterior appearance.
Calibration equipment that helps ensure the reliability and functionality of ProPILOT Assist technology.
The new Altima sets a new standard for the sedan market, and we are ready to bring it to the road for customers, said Holtz.

Nissan is bringing excitement back to the mid-size sedan segment with the all-new Nissan Altima. The all-new Altima features:

Nissan Smyrna currently produces six models: Altima, LEAF, Maxima, Pathfinder, Rogue and INFINITI QX60. In 2017, Nissan Smyrna produced more than 628,000 vehicles, making it the highest-producing automotive assembly plant in North America.
The Smyrna assembly line that produces Altima was recently recognized with a 2018 Bronze Plant Quality Award from J.D. Power, while Altima and Maxima sedans from that line ranked highest in their segments in the J.D. Power 2018 Initial Quality Study (IQS).

Nissan LEAF electric vehicle production process detailed
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has started production at its Oppama facility for the all-new 100% electric, zero-emission Nissan LEAF, which is slated to go on sale in December in Japan and the United States, and from early 2011, in select markets in Europe. In November, the company will begin exports to the United States, followed by shipments to Europe in December.
This is a significant milestone, not only for Nissan and the Renault-Nissan Alliance, but also for the entire automotive industry, said Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn at the Nissan LEAF offline ceremony. Consumers are clear. They want sustainable and affordable mobility...and the Alliance is leading the way with cars that deliver exactly that, with the reliability, excitement and performance that consumers demand. The high-quality, innovative Nissan LEAF will radically transform what consumers expect from automobile manufacturers worldwide.
Nissan LEAF will be produced at the Oppama Plant along with popular gasoline models such as Nissan Juke and Nissan Cube. Part of the assembly line has been modified to mount battery modules at the stage of production where fuel tanks are traditionally installed, and motors and inverters are mounted at the point where engines are installed in gasoline-powered vehicles. Production quality and efficiency are assured by applying the Nissan Production Way (NPW) in every step of the assembly process.
Nissan LEAF's lithium-ion battery modules are manufactured at the Automotive Energy Supply Corporation (AESC) operation in Zama, Japan, which is a joint-venture of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and NEC Corporation. The battery module, which contains 4 battery cells, are assembled at Zama and then shipped to the Nissan Oppama facility, where 48 of them are assembled into the electric car's battery pack.
Hidetoshi Imazu, Executive Vice President of Manufacturing, said, Oppama will serve as the 'Mother Plant' for the production of Nissan LEAF. We will use all of the know-how and learnings from Oppama to ensure the highest quality at all sites that manufacture Nissan EVs.
Sites for future production of Nissan EVs include Smyrna, Tennessee, in the United States and Sunderland, England, in the UK.
The Oppama plant has an annual production capacity of 50,000 units. Nissan LEAF will start production at Smyrna in late 2012 and at Sunderland in early 2013. At full ramp up, Smyrna will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units, and Sunderland will have a capacity of 50,000 units.
Nissan LEAF is the first 100% electric, zero-emission vehicle to be produced for the Renault-Nissan Alliance. Nissan, together with its Alliance partner, Renault, aims to be a global leader in zero-emission mobility. To date, the Alliance has signed 80 partnerships for zero-emission mobility with governments, municipalities and companies worldwide.
Nissan Adding 900 New Jobs in Smyrna - John Dunn
Cars have rolled off the Nissan assembly line in Smyrna for 30 years. Thousands of people work there, and more are coming. A new vehicle is headed to the assembly line. Production on the Nissan Rogue begins this fall, and that means 900 more jobs.
At Downtown Nashville Nissan, the crossover Nissan Rogue is a popular model. You get the feel of a sedan and sitting up a little higher like an SUV, so it's a very smooth driving car, says internet salesman Garrett Simpson.
Garrett Simpson knows that national sales of the model reached an all-time high last month. He has also heard Thursday's big news. The Nissan Rogue will soon be built in Smyrna.
Nissan will hire 900 new people in time to begin production this fall of the 2014 Rogue. That will move our plant to well over 7,000 jobs in Smyrna, which is great for the community, says Nissan Corporate Communications Manager Justin Saia.
Last October the company hired 810 people to launch a third shift. Nissan says moving the Rogue from Japan to the U.S. is part of the company's strategy to localize production. We've had a great partnership with the state, and look to continue that partnership going forward, says Saia.
Garrett Simpson is also pleased Nissan is strengthening its Tennessee presence. He is hopeful it will mean even more people will go rogue. You not only buy them, but get to make them, so it's kind of a neat deal for everybody, says Simpson.

Landmarks
Lower Broadway consists of Broadway between First and Fifth avenues. Its features include the Bridgestone Arena, the Nashville Convention Center and various honky tonk bars, including Robert's Western World and Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.[2] The Ryman Auditorium and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum are both within one block of this area. Lower Broadway is a particularly crowded place during the annual CMA Music Festival.
Nashville is the capital of the U.S. state of Tennessee and the county seat of Davidson County. The city is a center for the music, healthcare, publishing, banking and transportation industries, and is home to numerous colleges and universities. Reflecting the city's position in state government, Nashville is home to the Tennessee Supreme Court's courthouse for Middle Tennessee. It is known as a center of the country music industry, earning it the nickname Music City U.S.A.
Tourism
Perhaps the biggest factor in drawing visitors to Nashville is its association with country music. Many visitors to Nashville attend live performances of the Grand Ole Opry, the world's longest running live radio show. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is another major attraction relating to the popularity of country music. The Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, the Opry Mills regional shopping mall and the General Jackson showboat, are all located in what is known as Music Valley.
Nashville has several arts centers and museums, including the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art, the Tennessee State Museum, the Johnny Cash Museum, Fisk University's Van Vechten and Aaron Douglas Galleries, Vanderbilt University's Fine Art Gallery and Sarratt Gallery, and the full-scale replica of the Parthenon.
Economy
As the home of country music, Nashville has become a major music recording and production center. All of the Big Four record labels, as well as numerous independent labels, have offices in Nashville, mostly in the Music Row area.[44] Nashville has been home to the headquarters of guitar company Gibson since 1984. Since the 1960s, Nashville has been the second-largest music production center (after New York) in the U.S.[45] As of 2006, Nashville's music industry is estimated to have a total economic impact of $6.4 billion per year and to contribute 19,000 jobs to the Nashville area.[46]
Although Nashville is renowned as a music recording center and tourist destination, its largest industry is health care. Nashville is home to more than 300 health care companies, including Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the largest private operator of hospitals in the world.
The automotive industry is also becoming increasingly important for the entire Middle Tennessee region. Nissan North America moved its corporate headquarters in 2006 from Gardena, California (Los Angeles County) to Franklin, southwest of Nashville. Nissan also has its largest North American manufacturing plant in Smyrna, Tennessee. Largely as a result of the increased development of Nissan and other Japanese economic interests in the region, Japan moved its former New Orleans consulate-general to Nashville's Palmer Plaza.
Bridgestone has a strong presence with their North American headquarters located in Nashville, with manufacturing plants and a distribution center in nearby counties.
Other major industries in Nashville include insurance, finance, and publishing (especially religious publishing). The city hosts headquarters operations for several Protestant denominations, including the United Methodist Church, Southern Baptist Convention, National Baptist Convention USA, and the National Association of Free Will Baptists.
Nashville is also known for some of their famously popular Southern confections, including Goo Goo Clusters (which have been made in Nashville since 1912).[50]

New Infiniti powertrain plant in Tennessee a first for the U.S.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (June 26, 2014) -- Infiniti today began assembly at the Infiniti Decherd Powertrain Plant, a collaboration between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler AG. The first engine to be assembled at the all-new facility is a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline 4-cylinder developed by Daimler. The engines will initially be used in European versions of the Infiniti Q50 sports sedan and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class assembled in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Production for 2016 Nissan Maxima in Tennessee
Nissan's Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant continues its reign as the top-producing automotive plant in North America, as Gov. Bill Haslam, U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander and Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Randy Boyd joined plant employees to celebrate the start of production for the all-new 2016 Nissan Maxima.
When Nissan came to Tennessee more than 30 years ago, there were almost no auto jobs in the state, said Alexander. Three decades later, about one-third of our manufacturing jobs are auto related, auto suppliers have located in 80 counties, and our family incomes are higher. I want to thank Nissan for providing opportunities for thousands of talented Tennesseans.
Today's launch of the all-new Maxima is the beginning of an exciting year for Nissan's U.S. line-up, with new versions of the Altima, Sentra and TITAN due later this year, said John Martin, Nissan's senior vice president, Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management and Purchasing. New models produced at our U.S. plants in Smyrna, Tennessee and Canton, Mississippi helped to propel Nissan to nearly 1.4 million sales in the U.S. in 2014, and vehicles like the all-new Maxima will help us eclipse that record this year.

Nissan to Recall About 300,000 Vehicles in the US
Nissan's North America unit said it would recall about 300,000 vehicles in the United States and 28,000 vehicles in Canada to adjust a console panel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its website that the affected vehicles have a console trim panel that may catch the driver's shoe and potentially impede smooth pedal operation. The U.S. vehicle safety regulator said that Nissan North America is expected to begin the recall by mid-October. Nissan North America spokesman Steve Yaeger said on Friday, We have had an accident with injury related to this issue.

The Nissan LEAF has been in production at Smyrna since 2013, with more than 114,550 models sold in the United States since 2011. The 2018 Nissan LEAF will be available in all 50 states at launch at a starting price of $29,9901 and its range will exceed 150 miles2 on a single charge.
Nissan Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant first began producing vehicles in 1983 and has since delivered more than 12 million new cars to date. The Smyrna facility currently produces six models including: Altima, LEAF, Maxima, Pathfinder, Rogue and the INFINITI QX60. It has an annual production capacity of 640,000 vehicles.
Nissan Oppama Plant in Yokosuka, Japan, and Nissan Motor Manufacturing Ltd. in Sunderland, England, also manufacture the LEAF for global markets.
