Russia: Putin visits arms manufacturer in Nizhny Novgorod
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited one of Russia’s most prominent arms manufacturers, the VKO Almaz-Antey factory in Nizhny Novgorod, on Tuesday.
The factory, which was opened in 2015, manufactures the S-400, S-500 and 50R6 Vityaz anti-aircraft missile systems as well as the radar complex Nebo-M.
During his visit, Putin was presented with a copy of the key to the Nebo-M, nicknamed the ‘Key of Heaven’, because the word ‘Nebo’ means ‘Heaven’ in Russian.
SOT, Vladimir Putin, Russian President (Russian): There is a lot of equipment produced by Russia. I asked how work on the design of an enterprise was managed and nothing here was left up to chance.

The Museum of Everything visits Nizhny Novgorod - Exhibition #5 // Russia 2012
GARAGE CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY CULTURE PRESENTS
THE MUSEUM OF EVERYTHING
EXHIBITION #5 MOSCOW 2013
26th April to 2nd June 2013
Last summer The Museum of Everything trekked across Russia searching for artists for Exhibition #5, the country’s first and largest survey of contemporary, self-taught, non-traditional art.
Our journey started in Yekaterinberg and continued to Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, St Petersburg and Gorky Park in Moscow, where our quest for untrained, undiscovered and unintentional artists continued.
In every city we visited, we met artists and curated a local show featuring their artworks. To see Exhibition #5 in action on the road, check out one of the movies below or visit our blog here.
Exhibition #5 opened on the 26th April 2013 at Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Gorky Park, Moscow, and featured many of our discoveries, plus an outstanding group of historic self-taught Russian artists.

Historic city center
Nizhny Novgorod (Russian: Ни́жний Но́вгород, IPA: [ˈnʲiʐnʲɪj ˈnovɡərət]), colloquially shortened to Nizhny, is a city in Russia and the administrative center (capital[15]) of Volga Federal District and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. From 1932 to 1990, it was known as Gorky (Го́рький, IPA: [ˈɡorʲkʲɪj]),[16] after the writer Maxim Gorky, who was born there.
The city is an important economic, transportation, scientific, educational and cultural center in Russia and the vast Volga-Vyatka economic region, and is the main center of river tourism in Russia. In the historic part of the city there is a large number of universities, theaters, museums and churches. Nizhny Novgorod is located about 400 km (250 mi) east of Moscow, where the Oka River empties into the Volga. Population: 1,250,619 (2010 Census);[8] 1,311,252 (2002 Census);[17] 1,438,133 (1989 Census).[18]
The city was founded in 4 February 1221[19] by Prince Yuri II of Vladimir. In 1612 Kuzma Minin and Prince Dmitry Pozharsky organized an army for the liberation of Moscow from the Poles. In 1817 Nizhny Novgorod became a great trade center of the Russian Empire. In 1896 at a fair, an All-Russia Exhibition was organized.

Russian censorship - From Moscow to Murmansk
Censorship in Russia is not limited to journalism: in all possible areas people are threatened and opposed. In this episode of 'From Moscow to Murmansk' Jelle Brandt Corstius brings attention to censorship in Russia and (death) threats to critical journalists, human rights activists and dissidents.
Original title: New censorship
In the first series: From Moscow to Magadan, Jelle Brandt Corstius traveled from West to East, focusing on the endless Russian countryside and the villages. In this second series: From Moscow to Murmansk, he travels from North to South along the largest river of Russia: the Volga River. A trip along the relatively unknown cities like Murmansk, Volgograd, Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, but also to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Through topics like women in Russia, new censorship, the environmental problem from Russian perspective and the ideological vacuum, a relatively unknown side of Russia is once again exposed.
Presented by: Jelle Brandt Corstius
Final editor: Gert-Jan Hox
Directed by: Hans Pool
