10 Things to do in Porto, Portugal Travel Guide Video Transcript: (OPORTO)
Lisbon is beautiful, but Porto is magical. We arrived in Porto with our taxi driver’s words still ringing in our ears, and we’re happy to say, the city did not disappoint!
Our time in Porto was spent sipping on Port wine, soaking in the views across the Douro River, wandering through the hilly streets, and marvelling at buildings covered in blue tiles.
In this travel guide, we’re going to share a little bit of Porto’s magic with you, and also show you some of the things you too can see, eat, and drink when you visit Porto!
Known as the Chapel of Souls, this church is covered in tiles that represent moments in the life of Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Catherine.
This bookstore is a feast for the eyes. The bookstore was even frequented by JK Rowling when she taught English in Porto, and it’s reported to have been an inspiration in her Harry Potter series.
We continued our walk downhill until we reached the São Bento Train Station.
Porto Cathedral is one of the oldest landmarks in the city with cloisters where the walls are covered in blue tiles.
We reached the neighbourhood of Ribeira, which sits right on the shores of the Douro River. This neighbourhood is lined with many sidewalk cafes, bars, and restaurants, so it’s a nice place to rest your legs and do a bit of people watching. Feeling hungry we wandered down some of the back streets until we found a small restaurant serving up local specialities.
We made time for one more attraction: the Church of Saint Francis.
The Bridge we had all been waiting for was Dom Luis the first Bridge, which spans the Douro River. The lower deck carries regular traffic with narrow walkways for those on foot, and the upper deck is reserved for pedestrians and the metro lines.
For the best views of Porto, you need to walk the upper deck!
There was only one thing on our minds: visit one of the many wineries that line this side of the river! We ended up walking into Croft for a wine tasting without need for an appointment, and this turned out to be one of our favourite activities in Porto!
Filled to the brim with port wine, cheese and chocolate, we enjoyed a light stroll along the Douro River, watching the boats bob in the water.
That’s a wrap for our visit to Porto! We hope you guys enjoyed following along and that you got a few ideas for your own trip. If you have any other suggestions of fun things to do in and around Porto, feel free to share those with travellers in the comments below.

Extreme XL Lagares Hard Enduro Full Recap | WESS 2019

???? Official WESS website:
Spain’s Mario Roman has taken an early lead in the battle to become this year’s ULTIMATE ENDURO CHAMPION, claiming victory at round one of the 2019 World Enduro Super Series – the Toyota Porto Extreme XL Lagares, in Portugal. Putting in a determined display of riding, the Sherco Factory Racing star produced a terrific late race charge to top the podium ahead of teammate Wade Young (RSA) with early race leader Manuel Lettenbichler (KTM – GER) third.
Following two days of action-packed Endurocross and City Prologue racing, the stage was set for Sunday’s Hard Enduro feature race. Among the 300 competitors entered, over 50 Pro riders took to the start line of the demanding two-hour long course, which was to be completed twice. Notoriously difficult, the addition of blisteringly hot sunshine ensured a punishing start to the 2019 WESS championship.
Fastest seeded, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Alfredo Gomez (ESP) led the field away, with Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Taddy Blazusiak (POL) following suit 15 seconds later.
At the first major riverbed rock step, Blazusiak had reeled Gomez in and led from the front, with Lettenbichler hot on his heels having also caught and overtaken the Spaniard.
Midway through lap one the running order changed. Setting an insanely fast pace, Lettenbichler moved into the lead and opened up a five-minute advantage over Young with Billy Bolt (Husqvarna – GB), Jonny Walker (KTM – GB) and Graham Jarvis (Husqvarna – GB) all in tow. Just behind them sat Roman.
Heading out for lap two, Lettenbichler was now six minutes clear and looking strong. But Roman and Young had other ideas and impressively upped their pace in the deteriorating conditions. The duo reeled in the young German, who appeared to have run out of steam at the crucial moment.
Breaking both Young and Lettenbichler, Roman put his Sherco in front and, in charging all the way to the finish, claimed a memorable victory and the opening win of the WESS season. Young finished four minutes behind as runner-up.
Jarvis initially looked to have snatched third from Lettenbichler on corrected time, but the German was awarded time he lost on lap one due to a track marking error and finished on the podium. With Jarvis content in fourth, Bolt completed the top five, while Walker rounded out the top six.

Porto: visit to a UNESCO World Heritage Site - LUXE.TV
** Porto, a UNESCO World heritage site
Here’s a city made for walking…..
It’s little streets full of history and nostalgia make us want to turn back time.
To stroll along the Douro River, discover emblematic monuments like the Porto-São station or the Sé Cathedral, or taste the sweet flavour of wine are the musts of this city in the north of Portugal.
Welcome to Porto.
Nicknamed the unconquered city, Porto is the city that gave the country its name.
Initially it was called, Cale, but the Romans thought they were right at the time to add the word Port. Portus Cale was thus born.
During our city trip, we’ll discover the smallest corner of this surprising city, starting with its historic city centre, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. After dropping our luggage at the Hotel Sheraton, we invite you to enter the medieval neighbourhood of Ribeira, then take the Dom-Luis bridge, one of the 6 bridges that cross the Douro.
Liberdade Square and the São Bento train station with its hall adorned with azulejos will amaze you. Not forgetting the beaches, the tourism activities, or the places to party….in Porto, there’s something for everyone, trust us!
But for now, we’re going to get settled at the magnificent Porto Hotel & Spa. Located in the business district, the hotel is surprising by its design.
The modernity of its lines and transparency games, inside and out, are irresistibly successful.
The stairs dominating the lobby as well as the crisscross of the glass elevators have truly charmed us…
The location of the hotel makes it an ideal place, for business and tourism.
And for the rooms, there is ample choice.
Deluxe or club rooms with executive and junior suites, there is plenty of choice.
Access to the spa and club lounge are included and available all day.
But there is a place that Joana Almeida is particularly proud of, and it’s located in this space on the 11th floor.
Not being there for business, we decided to go for a walk along the Douro, the river that had such a large role to play in the wine trade, especially during the 18th century.
At that time, Port wines, which were not yet the wines we know today and were more like simple table wines, were barely consumed in Portugal and really intended for wine export, especially to the UK market.
It was here that the flat-bottomed boats transported the barrels of wine in order to load the ships that remained far away, at the mouth of the Douro in the Atlantic Ocean.
Today the Rabelos as they are called, are used for tourist cruises, and allow the curious traveller to discover the 6 bridges connecting the city of Porto to the Villa Nova of Gaia.
The Dom Luis Bridge is the most emblematic.
Inaugurated in 1886, it was designed by the engineer Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel.
You can admire it comfortably on the terrace of a café on the river. In this district of Ribeira, there is no shortage of places to party and enjoy a good Portuguese dish.
When you turn your head, you cannot escape the colourful facades and flowered balconies, typical of this neighbourhood.
And if the desire to discover Porto in a different way tempts you, why not opt for a helicopter flight.
Flyovers of the city can range from 10 to 60 minutes in the air, for a budget ranging from 45 to €215 per person.
After this excess of emotions, let's take advantage of the SPA at the Sheraton Hotel.
With nearly 2000m2 devoted to well-being, this Spa is the ideal place to relax before or after a hard day.
Yoga room…sauna and aromatherapy are proposed.
As well as a vitality pool placed in the middle of this space bathed in natural light.
The perfect way to feel relaxed and calmly prepare for care treatments offered by a team of specialists
For those who feel the need to freshen up before dinner: fitness, hair salon, manicure, everything is on offer.
The hotel restaurant is quite chic.
Behind this glazed cube, there’s a must-have experience.

Visiting Pena Palace | Day Trip to Sintra from Lisbon, Portugal
Join us as we visit Pena Palace on a day trip to Sintra from Lisbon, Portugal. Traveling to Sintra from Lisbon is as easy as can be with frequent trains departing from Rossio station in central Lisbon making a 30-40 minute journey to Sintra, Portugal. We paid 5 Euros for a our ticket and hoped on the next train departing shortly after we arrived at the station. Before we did any sightseeing, as per our usual style, we grabbed a quick bite at Café Saudade where we had scrumptious paninis and a couple of local desserts (queijada and travesseiro). We'd highly recommend this place as the prices were very reasonable and the quality of food was excellent.
After it was time to figure out how we'd visit the attraction we came all the way to Sintra to visit - Pena Palace! After checking several options we realized the local bus was the cheapest option (5.50 Euros for a return trip) and so we hopped on bus number 434.
After arriving at Pena Palace we paid 11.50 Euros each for an adult ticket and my parents got a senior discount at 9 Euros per person. Firstly we toured the exterior of Pena Palace where we we marvelled at the bright colors and various influences in terms of its eclectic architecture. We also had wonderful views over Sintra and especially of the Moorish Castle. Afterwards we walked around inside before calling it a day. Overall, we'd say it would take around an hour to three hours to check this place out thoroughly. It is bigger than it looks from a lower vantage point.
And that was our day! Visiting Sintra to properly check out the town and other attractions warrants an overnight stay and with just an afternoon to spare we really only focussed on Pena Palace. However, if you're looking for an interesting day trip from Lisbon we'd highly recommend considering Sintra. Ciao for now!

Visiting Pena Palace on a day trip to Sintra, Portugal Travel Video Transcript:
But you guys know the drill. First things first, we needed to grab a quick bite. We spotted a cafe serving up pastries, paninis, and all sorts of baked goods, and that was all the convincing we needed.
With our appetites satiated, we continued our stroll through town, and then decided we should probably hop on a bus, and save our legs for visiting the attraction that brought us all the way out here: the Pena Palace.
Once we reached the gates of the Pena Palace we purchased our tickets, and began the climb to this colourful, whimsical, and somewhat kitschy construction set atop a hill in the Sintra Mountains.
Though Pena Palace’s history dates back to the Middle Ages, what you see today dates from the 19th century, with construction of the current castle completed in 1854.
You may think that this place looks like a mish-mash of different styles, and that’s because Pena Palace is a Romanticist castle, that was influenced by Gothic, Manueline, Moorish and Renaissance architecture.
The commission for this castle was given to a German amateur architect, and the King’s only request was that “this palace should reflect an opera” - whatever that means.
The tour of the interior of the palace followed a carpeted-route that guided us through a chapel, bedrooms, dining rooms, living rooms, and a kitchen - all decorated with historical furniture to reflect how it would have looked when the Portuguese royal family lived here before their escape to Brazil during the revolution.
Then we stopped for one more glimpse of the surrounding hills, and it was time to head back down.
And yes, that’s all we did in Sintra that day: ate lunch, rode a bus, and visited one palace. We’re not kidding about maybe coming here for 2-3 days, because there’s way more to cover than you can on a day trip!

Liverpool news : Why Liverpool are the best team in the world - Porto boss Sergio Conceicao
Conceicao is preparing his side to face Liverpool in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash in Portugal tomorrow night. They go into the game as big underdogs after a 2-0 defeat at Anfield in the first leg. And Conceicao says there is not a team on the planet who have been able to match Liverpool's style as they have fought for honours both domestically and in Europe. Liverpool are all about the way that I think about football, he said. I like the Liverpool dynamics, their game model. I like the way they play with the ball and without it, it's similar to how I see football. In my opinion, in a lot of these moments they are the best team in the world. Porto were lucky to escape from Anfield with just a two-goal deficit after being dominated in the game and Conceicao admits his side have it all to do at the Estadio do Dragao. The match is difficult to prepare for not only because it is 2-0, but also because Liverpool are very strong in attack, he added. The balance we will need when we are attacking will be fundamental so that we do not concede any more goals. Meanwhile, Reds boss Klopp has warned his team against complacency despite their commanding lead. “It’s clear, 2-0, what would we do? That’s the simplest question to ask: we would go for everything,” the German said. “If we were 2-0 down and going into the home leg, would we think we were out? No way. That’s exactly what Porto are thinking. “They always have a high-intensity game in the highest intense atmosphere. From the first kick they will go with a clear direction. “We can compare it a little bit to the [Manchester] City game last year when we were 3-0 up and everybody thought, ‘halfway through’ or whatever. “We go there to win the game, that’s the plan. It’s not easy, we know that, but we should not think about anything else because that’s always the aim.”

Mohamed Salah lucky to escape red card after awful challenge in Liverpool 2-0 Porto
Liverpool cruised to victory in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Porto. Goals from Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino handed the Reds an important home win and they now go to Portugal with a comfortable lead to protect. Jurgen Klopp's side could have scored even more too - they were so dominant over the 90 minutes. Although it was a faultless Liverpool performance with two goals and a clean sheet, they did get away with one big moment and it involved Mohamed Salah. With five minutes left, the Egyptian forward was chasing the ball on the edge of the box and appeared to stamp down on the leg of Porto's Danilo Pereira when he came across to clear the ball. Salah's work ethic during Liverpool v Porto Spurs beat Man City 1-0 in UCL Smalling relishing chance to face Messi Salah's challenge was very late and very high - one that clearly warranted punishment. But incredibly, he escaped without a card. He wasn't even booked, let alone sent off. You can watch the incident below. It seems unbelievable that the Liverpool forward didn't even get booked for an awful, over the ball challenge. He was perhaps helped by the fact that Pereira seems to have downplayed the challenge. Of course, it's unclear if there was any intent on Salah's part - yet it seems he could have easily avoided stamping down on his opponent's leg. It's also a shame that this incident could overshadow Liverpool's impressive first leg win. It took them just four minutes to open the scoring when Keita's shot from outside the box was deflected past Iker Casillas and into the net. Firmino doubled his side's lead, tapping home from close range after Trent Alexander-Arnold sent a low cross into the six-yard box. Liverpool are in a strong position thanks to the result and will be confident of finishing the job next week. But they were rather lucky to finish the game with all 11 players on the pitch.
