This dynamic and young city called Ulaanbaatar is the capital city of Mongolia. Sometimes called Ulan Bator, the city is something of a paradox being a capital of a nomadic nation. This short video is about this unique city in Central Asia. There's plenty to see and do in Ulaanbaatar, you should plan at least 1 full day to tour around the city.

SCRIPT:
Opening:
After nearly a year of backpacking around Asia, we found ourselves rolling into Ulan Bator, the capital city of Mongolia, a country synonymous with Genghis Khan (known as Chinggis Khan in Mongolia) , wide open spaces, and Nomadic life. Of the 3 million people that call Mongolia home, nearly half live in UB, making it the cultural, financial and industrial center of Mongolia, so it’s no surprise that this city is the first stop for most foreign visitors. In our case, we entered the country from China after a 48 hour marathon of bus and train travel that started from Beijing, so as soon as we arrived, the ONLY thing we could think about was to getting to the nearest hostel to sleep. So we did. For 2 days.
Leaving UB:
Once we got our strength up we did some research and found that our hostel was offering a tour of the gobi desert as well as other parts of central Mongolia; a journey that would take 16 days; we’d decided to go with 6 other travelers that we’d met a couple of days beforehand, but with only one day to prepare and zero winter clothes, we desperately needed to gear up...
Market:
“Naran Tuul zach (зах or Khar Zakh)” is a sprawling flea market where you can find wall clocks, linoleum flooring and just about anything else. The market has gained a bad reputation among locals and foreigners alike for being a pickpocket’s haven, so with such a rough exterior and shady nickname like “black market”, we figured we’d be able to bargain our way into some amazing deal, but we soon discovered that this wasn’t the case...
Lunch:
Because Mongolian culture is based on livestock farming, the traditional diet consists of meat, flour and dairy with mutton being the meat of choice. Mongolian winters are extremely harsh so a lot of animal fat is consumed during winter and more dairy products during the summer.
Closing:
What… a… day. It was a long journey, but the scenery was stunning and the Mongolian countryside made quite the first impression on us. But this was only just the beginning and we couldn’t wait to see what the next 15 days would bring...

JOURNEY into MONGOLIA
I went on a solo adventure into western Mongolia with Indy Guide ( to explore what this amazing part of the country had to offer and visit the eagle hunters of the region, I was not disappointed. The views were on another level, especially in the Altai mountains but the Kazahk people were just extremely welcoming and open which made the experience one to remember. Staying with a different family each night, experiencing their daily routines and eating and drinking with them. We continued to make our way around the west, attending the Nauryz eagle festival and exploring some of the snowy mountains in the Altai by horseback. Filming my adventure through Mongolia was extremely tough, we were on the move constantly and electricity is hard to come by so I relied on power banks a lot to charge my camera, being from Africa i'm not used to temperatures as low as -20 degrees celsius during this time of the year and of course the language barrier but I thoroughly enjoyed the every moment and it was one of the most raw feelings of travel I have experienced.
Thanks to Ati Tosun from Indy-Guide for making this trip such a success in terms of an adventure, I hope this video gives a small insight into what is to be expected when visiting this part of the world.

I go back to Hong Golin Els and to the promised Ger. In order to eat the nomadic traditional food that can be eaten only in the southern rain desert. By the way. Suddenly the car does not move. The wheel fell into the mud. Chami is a common thing in the harsh Gobi desert. At that time, the far away light began to be seen. Fortunately, we are the owner of the booked Gers. Hello. What do I do? I have fallen into the mud. I have not seen the road. The nomads of the Gobi Desert are said to help others when they are in trouble. I try to use all the tools I have, but it is not easy. Five men are hanging around, but they do not budge, but they all seem to help me like they do my job. Finally successful! It's only three hours since I've been in the mud. Time past 11 o'clock. I have passed the appointment time, but thankfully cooks. The zipper is said to be a healthy food for the remaining non-nomadic people. Jim Vila is a dish. I cut it into small pieces, sprinkle it with onions, carrots, radishes, potatoes, and put the dough on it. After burning the dried tree and putting the pot on it, Learn. The rich ripe garbage is like the ribs of our country. I eat this ripe meat and vegetables together. For the nomads, it is the best recreational vehicle. Suddenly, the meat is cut and thrown into the fire. This is to express gratitude to the god of fire before eating. Mongolia is an environment with rapid climate change and temperature differences. In such an environment, people can not fill their calories unless they consume meat, vegetables and flour. Therefore, if you consume meat and flour vegetables evenly, it will fill your body's calories and you will not get tired or fat. If you are traveling, you must eat it. I did not have a special sauce, so I would not smell it.

STAYING with a NOMADIC FAMILY | Grasslands, Mongolia
We left the Gobi and made it to the grasslands. We stayed with a nomadic family. They showed us some interesting parts of their daily life - gathering horse milk, how to ferment it, and making vodka from the milk. I was basically a day of enjoying being out in the grasslands. Seeing the animals the family had, games with the kids, and a bonfire to finish it all off.
The most interesting part was buying a sheep from the family for dinner. We saw it get butchered and barbecued. It was the most farm to table you can get.
If you ever go to Mongolia, I really recommend staying with a local family for a day. It was an excellent experience.
This is Day 8 of the GAdventures Nomadic Mongolia Tour.
Much love and happy travels
