North Conway Country Club
Course Description: First established in 1895 in the Saco River-lined farmlands below North Conway Village, the North Conway Country Club provides the premier golf experience in Mt. Washington Valley. This spectacularly scenic 18-hole championship course has water hazards coming into play on five holes and numerous sand bunkers spread throughout its design. Rated as one of the Top Ten Golf Courses in New Hampshire, the course is consistently and impeccably maintained and is a good test of golf at all levels. The natural turf range includes separate practice areas for chipping, putting and bunkers.
Pro Shop: Fully equipped pro shop featuring quality equipment, fashions and a friendly, professional staff.
Signature Hole: Number 5. This par four dogleg runs along the Saco River where, on the tee boxes, you might see fly fishermen, canoeists or kayakers on the river. The tee shot requires accuracy to a small landing area. Hit the ball left and you'll find yourself either OOB or in a grassy ravine that runs along the left side and then turns right bisecting the fairway about 225 yards from the back tees. The second shot is a short iron to a small undulating green guarded by bunkers left and right of the run up and a steep drop off in the back. Birdies can be made here, but three good shots are required.
Most Scenic Hole: Number 14. This is the longest par four on the course, with all four teeing areas surrounded by towering maple and oak trees. This creates a narrow chute requiring a straight shot to the wide fairway. The long second shot (third for most ladies) is to an elevated, tiered green framed by giant bunkers right and left. The panoramic views of Mt. Washington and the Moat Range from the green are spectacular.
Clubhouse: The North Conway CC clubhouse is a two-story cedar shake building overlooking the course below. On the lower level you'll find the pro shop, business office and member locker rooms. The stairway leads to the second story dining room (open to the public) with unparalleled views of the golf course, North Conway Village and the mountains from the huge deck. The deck also provides a front row seat for viewing first tee drives, the practice putting green and spectacular summer sunsets.
Restaurant/Lounge: The Ledgeview Grille is open daily in-season serving breakfast, lunch and beverages. Dine on the large deck with its fantastic views of the course and mountains or in the spacious air-conditioned dining room. The lounge has a full liquor license and is usually open until 8:00pm for sunset cocktails. The menu features grill room classics along with daily specials -- all moderately priced. Hours may vary early/late in the season.
Lodging: None on site. Many resorts, hotels, motels and B&B's are located within minutes of North Conway, some within walking distance. Check this MWV Chamber site for Lodging opportunities near the Club.
History and Anecdotes:
• In 1891, the legendary Kearsage Hotel operated on the site of what is now the North Conway CC. Rates were $3 to $4 a day and the luxuries of steam heat and electric lights were offered!
• In 1895, two greens were built and, in order to keep grazing sheep and cattle away, were surrounded by barbed wire fence.
• In 1900, these Kearsage golf links were expanded to a 9-hole course and, in 1985, grew to a full 18 holes.
• Prior to 1924, any golf pro traveling through or staying in the area was the de facto pro at the Kearsarge Hotel during their stay.
• In 1932, an eclipse brought thousands of spectators via the Boston and Maine RR (now the Conway Scenic Railroad) to watch from the club's natural amphitheater.

North Conway is a census-designated place (CDP) in eastern Carroll County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,349 at the 2010 census. A year-round resort area, North Conway is the largest village within the town of Conway, which is bounded on the east by the Maine state line. The White Mountain National Forest is to the west and north. Conway is home to Cathedral Ledge (popular with climbers), Echo Lake State Park, and Mount Cranmore. North Conway is known for its large number of outlet shops.
Chartered in 1765 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, the town is named for Henry Seymour Conway, ambitious son of a prominent English family, who was elected to the House of Commons at age twenty, fought at Culloden, and became Secretary of State. Early settlers called the area Pequawket (known colloquially as Pigwacket), adopting the name of the Abenaki Indian village which stretched down the Saco River to its stockaded center at Fryeburg, Maine.
North Conway is located in the White Mountains, with Mount Washington located to the northwest. The rugged terrain became popular in the 19th century with artists. Their paintings were known collectively as White Mountain art, which in turn attracted tourists to the area, particularly after the Portsmouth, Great Falls & Conway Railroad extended service in 1872 to North Conway. In 1874, the line built a Second Empire depot, designed by Nathaniel J. Bradlee. In 1932, snow trains began carrying enthusiasts to the birthplace of American skiing, as North Conway is known.
Increasing automobile travel brought the decline of trains. The railroad, then part of the Boston & Maine, abandoned passenger service to the area in 1961, and freight service in 1972. Subsequently, the Conway Scenic Railroad was established. Today, the line offers visitors a tour of the region, including Crawford Notch. The station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the late 1980s, the White Mountain Airport closed and was redeveloped as a large outlet mall called Settlers' Green Outlet Village. Continued growth through the 1990s and 2000s in North Conway and the villages nearby made Conway the most populous community in Carroll County. Traffic congestion led to an overhaul of the road system, including widening Route 16 through North Conway village and constructing a road parallel to Route 16 to allow traffic to move between Redstone and Intervale uninterrupted. A bypass of the area is being developed.
North Conway remains a popular destination due to its shopping, recreation, and attractions.

White Mountains
Bartlett, New Hampshire
Pinkham Notch
Mt. Washington , N.H.
The White Mountains are a mountain range covering about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine in the United States. They are part of the northern Appalachian Mountains and the most rugged mountains in New England. The range is heavily visited due to its proximity to Boston and, to a lesser extent, New York City and Montreal.
Most of the area is public land, including the White Mountain National Forest and a number of state parks. Its most famous mountain is 6,288-foot (1,917 m) Mount Washington, which is the highest peak in the Northeastern U.S. and which held the record for fastest surface wind gust (231 miles per hour (372 km/h), over 100 m/s, in 1934) in the world for 76 years. Mount Washington is part of a line of summits, the Presidential Range, that are named after U.S. presidents and other prominent Americans.
The White Mountains also include the Franconia Range, Sandwich Range, Carter-Moriah Range and Kinsman Range in New Hampshire, and the Mahoosuc Range straddling the border between it and Maine. In all, there are 48 peaks within New Hampshire as well as one (Old Speck Mountain) in Maine over 4,000 feet (1,200 m), known as the Four-thousand footers.
The Whites are known for a system of alpine huts for hikers operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The Appalachian Trail crosses the area from southwest to northeast.
It is not clear where the name White Mountains came from. There is no record of what Native Americans called the range, although pre-Colonial names for many individual peaks are known.[1] The name and similar ones such as White Hills or Wine Hills are found in literature from Colonial times. According to tradition, the mountains were first sighted from shipboard off the coast near the Piscataqua estuary. The highest peaks would often be snow-capped, appearing white.

The White Mountain National Forest (WMNF) is a federally managed forest contained within the White Mountains in the northeastern United States. It was established in 1918 as a result of the Weeks Act of 1911; federal acquisition of land had already begun in 1914. It has a total area of 750,852 acres (3,039 km2) (1,225 sq mi). Most of the WMNF is in New Hampshire; a small part (about 5.65% of the forest) is in the neighboring state of Maine. While often casually referred to as a park, this is a National Forest, used not only for hiking, camping, and skiing, but for logging and other limited commercial purposes. The WMNF is the only National Forest located in either New Hampshire or Maine. Most of the major peaks over 4,000 feet high for peak-bagging in New Hampshire are located in the National Forest. Over 100 miles (160 km) of the Appalachian Trail traverses the White Mountain National Forest. In descending order of land area the forest lies in parts of Grafton, Coos, and Carroll counties in New Hampshire, and Oxford County in Maine.

Keller Williams Conway NH real estate expert Bill Barbin of shares restaurant tips and advice for anyone that wants to find Where to go to Eat in the Conway New Hampshire area without going further up into the Mount Washington Valley! See the full post at

Here we are on a beautiful White Mountain Day in early June, at my full-time home in Conway NH!, It was a full Real Estate day out on the roads of NH and Maine today! I figured that I would wrap up the day with a little video list of my Best Places to Eat in Conway NH! So I am out back at one of my favorite little spots here in my little corner of the yard outside my office. I just wanted to come to you you with a report for Spring of 2019, as we move into summer. Today is June 6, 2019 and I want to let you guys get my take on the local dining scene in Conway New Hampshire. Let me just take a moment to give you the lay of the land: My office is in North Conway. Intervale, specifically, which is the very end of the north end of the Town of Conway. North Conway is a village and precinct within the Town of Conway NH and it IS the more popular and well-known destination. It's a census place as far as the US government is concerned, but not it's own municipality.
The Town of Conway is the municipality. As you come into the Town of Conway you drive through Conway Village, and that's when you know you've arrived up the road and you see the high school, which is now the middle school, on the left just after the fields that give you the first view up through the valley to Mt Washington. Conway is really the gateway to the Mount Washington Valley. That having been said, it's kind of a different venue than North Conway. A lot of people that visit like to get up into the north end of town, to their hotel rooms and, whatever they're doing, they are picturing North Conway Village as THE place to be! , The commercial strip between here and there has changed the dining scene quite a bit in recent years, but that is a post for another day.
Folks that have vacation property in Conway or the town of Madison, just south-east of us, (you cut through Madison very quickly on Rt 16) and Eidlelweiss village district, which is a beautiful community of vacation homes around a few ponds with Sandy beaches. This is really a vacation bedroom community of North Conway, right there in Madison. Folks in Albany and northern Tamworth and Madison all know that the Conway end of town has a few great dining options, from your pizza to even fancy dining. So let me kind of take you through my list of our favorites... Cafe Noche (and I'll throw out a few addresses... Cafe Noche at 147 MainStreet) in Conway Village, is just after the post office and the Cumberland Farms on the right, as you come into town. Cafe Noche is a theme Mexican restaurant. They have a lot of stuff that the owners have picked up over the years, in their travels for decor. In addition, the owners are on site most of the time, and if not, someone from their family is working on site and it's a very well-run restaurant. Excellent food, wonderful drinks and great atmosphere. And so...that's a favorite of ours! We like that casual Mexican thing. It reminds us of a place called the Edgewater Cafe, when it was in Magnolia (MA). Some of you may remember The Edgewater and that's what Cafe Noche reminds Kristen and I of...
The next 2 places I'd put on the Conway list would be Frye's Pizza and Subs in Center Conway and First Stop pizza and subs in Conway Village. Literally the first stop, I think, geographically, you have First Stop, and that's directly across from the middle school, and before the post office, on the right. They are actually on West Main Street... Just don't judge them by their Facebook Page! I don't have my address right here but that's gonna be somewhere around 30 West Main Street... or something like that...? Anyhow... I actually had started working in The Valley at the Remax office just next door to First Stop pizza. I'm VERY familiar with their pizza. When I came up to the valley in 2003 I landed... in the Remax office here in Conway Village. Now I'm with Keller Williams Lakes and Mountains in Intervale. I had been with Badger real estate, managing their commercial properties and selling residential real estate, for about eight years and I am now with Keller Williams. On the other end of Main St, on East Main St in Center Conway Village, on Rt 302 just past the Town Hall on the left, is Frye's Store. Frye's makes excellent prepared foods and has a great menu, including some serious pizza and sub choices and the Best take-out burger I have found.
Now the next one is kind of a funny one for a lot of people that are from where I'm from, because they saySeafood in North Conway NH?... that's crazy! It's the opposite direction!!
