Alaska Tour - Homer, AK - Stop #14
Today we traveled further southward from Anchorage, AK to Homer, AK. It was about 200 miles filled with spectacular scenery!
Along the way, we stopped for lunch at the Portage Valley Chugach National Forest and I was able to fly my quadcopter to capture the splendor of the mountains, lakes and glaciers!
In Homer, once set up in the campground, I was able to take a quick quadcopter flight to show even more snow covered mountains across the river!
The following day, a few of us set out on a Deep Sea Fishing Trip to fish for Halibut. We started out at about 6AM and returned around 12PM. The weather was bright and sunny, the winds light, and the water nice and smooth for our 1-1/2 hr, 21 mile ride out to sea. Once there, we had great luck catching Halibut! Each was approximately 29 inches long and weighing around 10 pounds! I am proud to state that we all caught our limit of 2 in no time flat!!

we took a 4 hour halibut charter out in Lynn canal with Moore charters onboard the Alaskan Goose with captain Anies and first mate Tim. We caught fish from the first drop to the very last minute we had. Incredible trip, awesome captain and crew. If we go back we will definitely book another trip

Alaska Yellow Eye & Lingcod Fishing
Many argue Alaska offers the best yellow eye, rockfish and lingcod fishing in the world. Without hesitation, Team Pautzke flew north to Anchorage, hopped on a plane to Kenai and drove to Seward to hop on a boat in search of trophy bottomfish action.
Rather than hire a guide, two of our pros, Luke Haman of Kenai River Guides and John Albrich searched the topographic charts to find remote islands where we could test our brines and scents and see how well we could catch fish, even with no prior experience. None of us had ever fished this area, roughly 100 miles from Seward. Fortunately, success echoed the entire three days we spent on the Pacific Ocean.
Armed with herring marinated in Pautzke Chartreuse Fire Brine and Halibut & Rockfish Nectar, we dropped our herring tipped jigs to bottom in search of rocky pinnacles and were able to induce strikes on every drift from various rockfish species. Combined with world class scenery, intimate encounters with wildlife and rare calm, sunny days on the open ocean, it was an unforgettable experience we'll all never forget.

Upper Kenai River - a great place almost every time of year to catch rainbow trout and salmon, if you know what you're doing so long as the river isn't frozen there are fish for you. Also a great place for roadside bear viewing; just don't get too close!
Kobuk Valley National Park - noted for the Great Kobuk Sand Dunes and caribou migration routes. The park offers backcountry camping, hiking, backpacking, and dog sledding.
Lake Clark National Park and Preserve - The Park was created to protect scenic beauty (volcanoes, glaciers, wild rivers and waterfalls), populations of fish and wildlife, watersheds essential for red salmon, and the traditional lifestyle of local residents. Lake Clark's spectacular scenery provides a true wilderness experience for those who visit.
Skilak Lake - another great place for monster rainbow trout, also one of the most beautiful areas of the state, camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and hunting are all great options for a fun time. Just a great place to spend a quiet weekend with family, friends, or just the fish.
Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve - Chugach, Wrangell, and Saint Elias mountain ranges converge here in what is often referred to as the mountain kingdom of North America. It has the continent's largest assemblage of glaciers and greatest collection of peaks above 16,000 feet.
Yukon - Charley Rivers National Preserve - along the Canadian border in central Alaska
There are many things to do when traveling to Alaska. If you are the adventurous type then Alaska will be a great place to go. You can go hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, and expeditions to see the wildlife of Alaska like wolves, whales, moose, and bears. There are also month-long expeditions to the top of Denali.
A journey on the Dalton Highway provides a very unique experience. The highway crosses mountains and tundra, the Arctic Circle, and 414 miles of pristine wilderness.
Stay up late to see the midnight sun, it's fascinating to watch in the summer when daytime seems endless.

• Park rangers are sometimes present at Lake Clark National Park to give out Jr. Ranger badges and answer questions.
• The pilot is very knowledgeable about the bears and their environment.
• Bring snacks, sunscreen, bug spray and be prepared for changing weather.
This is a mind-blowing experience. If you truly want to see what Alaska is all about this is a must. Starting with the breathtaking views of glaciers and volcanoes to the exciting beach landing in the plane and finally watching the grizzly bears just yards away catching fish, munching on grass and cubs following their mothers, this is something you don't want to miss. After spending several months in Alaska we couldn't find anything to top this adventure and I bet you won't either.

At the southern tip of the kenai peninsula is homer,
A commercial fishing port that has become
Popular with sportsfisherman and campers alike.
Perhaps best known for its great halibut fishing,
homer also boasts wonderful salmon, trout*,
Crab and shrimp fishing.
Much of the town is located on a 4 1/2 mile spit
of land that juts out into kachemak bay. On one
side of the spit lies the harbor, home of a large
commercial fishing fleet and some 80 sportfishing
Charter boats and hundreds of small private craft.
Homer is one of the favorite places to fish for
alaska's famous giant halibut. Fish over 100 pounds
are common and very few fishermen are dissapointed
In these halibut rich waters.
Halibut charters are readily available at any of a long
Line of concessions that line the road across from the harbor.
Further down the beach, campers and picnicers
Get a clear view of st. Augustine,
an active volcano that last erupted in 1986, spewing
Ash over much of this area.
Near by, the valley of 10,000 smokes on the alaskan peninsula,
Provides visitors a close look at an area of active
Volcanic activity. Beginning 0ne hundred miles
southwest of homer, this area is the site of a massive
Volcanic eruption which occured in 1912.
The explosions that created this moonscape were so
immense, that they were heard 750 miles away in juneau.

I've been here in Alaska for one month now, it is absolutely beautiful! This trip wasn’t planned, however I needed a job. So I randomly applied for one coolworks.com and two weeks later, here I am. Its been a whirlwind of a journey joining the company mid season, getting trained in and now working 50 hour weeks. But I love it; The company, the people, the boat, and of course working at sea. Our season only lasts until late Sept though, so Im saving all I can to be able to travel again in the fall.
