American Revolution and the Alston House
In the summer and spring, bright flowers surround this white plantation house whose name comes from its location on a horseshoe bend in the The Deep River. The house (ca. 1770) was first owned by Philip Alston, whose band of Whigs was attacked in 1781 by Tories led by David Fanning. Later, four-term North Carolina governor Benjamin Williams lived in the house, which today features fine antiques of the colonial and Revolutionary War eras.

White Plains is a city in Westchester County, New York. It is the county seat and commercial hub of Westchester, an affluent suburban county that is home to almost one million people, just north of New York City. White Plains is located in south-central Westchester, with its downtown about 7 miles east of the Hudson River and 7 miles northwest of the Long Island Sound. It is bordered to the north by the town of North Castle, to the north and east by the town/village of Harrison, to the south by the town/village of Scarsdale, and to the west by the town of Greenburgh.
As of 2013, the city's total population was estimated to be 57,866, up from 56,853 at the 2010 census. According to the city government, the daytime weekday population is estimated at 250,000. As part of the 25th Anniversary Year of Action, the Initiative made a national call for Bright Spots in Hispanic Education and announced over 230 during Hispanic Heritage Month. To elevate the work, including promising practices, of these Bright Spots and learn from their experiences, the Initiative is hosting a series of public engagements, via Google + Hangout over the coming year.
These interactive sessions will provide an opportunity to hear from programs, models, organizations, or initiatives that are helping close the achievement gap, from cradle-to-career, for Hispanic students, and for discussing ways to continue moving the needle on progress for Latino students and families.
The next in a series of monthly Hangouts, will take place on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. eastern standard time and will focus on Post-Secondary Completion.

This is Trump's first official State of the Union Address. The speech Trump gave last year to a joint session of Congress was not called the State of the Union. A president’s address during his or her first year in office is never referred to as a State of the Union address because after just a few weeks into his term, a new president isn’t expected to know the full state of the union.
