As is a tradition on Sunday, April 15, eight men of the Andor carried the image of Our Lady of Mercy back to its hermitage, on the top of the city of Loulé, in what is the Great Feast of the Sovereign Mother. A unique moment for the pilgrims and faithful who have marked their presence, despite the meteorological instability, in the city of Loulé and which is considered as the main religious manifestation south of the Sanctuary of Fatima.
After Easter Sunday, the image of the Patroness having descended from her hermitage to the Church of St. Francis, followed by fifteen days with various liturgical celebrations and also cultural activities, the Great Feast was the culmination of the festivities.
Marking the beginning of the Great Festivity, was the homage of the Club Hípico de Loulé to Nossa Senhora da Piedade, Largo de S. Francisco, on Saturday, the 14th, at night.
On Sunday, in the afternoon, given the rain that was felt, after the celebration of the Eucharist in the Church of St. Francis, the image of Our Lady of Mercy left for the Square of the Monument Duarte Pacheco. It was already here that at 4:00 p.m., the Bishop of the Algarve, D. Manuel Quintas, presided at the solemn celebration of the Eucharist. Then came the moment of consecration to Our Lady and beginning of the Great Procession, which traveled along the main streets of the city, accompanied by the Minerva Artists' Philharmonic Band.
